What's up? The name is Matt and I live in the states.

I'm 28 and I've been riding all-mountain and XC for years but never any street or trials. Justy recently, I built up a KHS DJ 200 (got the chromoly frame real cheap) as a beginner trials bike with old bike parts I had lying around the house. 26" wheels, XT v-brakes, truvativ crank/isis BB with Wellgo platform pedals. I run a 22T chainring and 17T rear cog. Rear hub is a Shimano XT and front is a generic no name. I have a cheap 80mm travel suspension fork on it now which is firm but by new chromoly rigid fork should be here any day.

It's not a trials specific bike by any means, but I have been having a blast practicing (despite the way my shins and knees look). I'm still no good as far as trialsin goes, but the improvements my other riding styles have seen from my trials practice is amazing. As my skill progresses, I hope to pick up more trials specific parts (wheels/hubs, crank, etc); but first thing is first, when I get some dough I'm going for some shin protection : )

Peace.

Hi, I'm Alan and possibly the oldest newbie around. At 37 I decided that i should make use of my big garden by riding a bike in it. Been riding for about 8 months now and could do with some buddies to help speed up the progression. I live near Glastonbury / Shepton Mallet so give me a shout if you are in the area.

Riding an upgraded Phase 1.2

Theres a fair few riders in the south west area, with myself located in Plymouth and Bridport nr Weymouth. Keep an eye on the rides section and come down to a Plymouth meet or Westbay / Weymouth / Portland, always good to see new faces.

Hello to all the new members, Don't know if anyone ever says welcome in this thread, but Welcome, and enjoy.

Well if you're sad mate (tim_mx), I'm sadder, the oldest newbie. 32 years young living in West Yorkshire.

Liked the look of trials, so thought "why not, you only live once, sod what people think!" <_<

Been riding mtb's for ever, make a change. I am just awaiting bike coming (probably not what is considered a proper trials, but i like the look of it), have a few questions, hopefully have considerate people explaining (in laymans terms), what's what.

As an afterthought, just been reading few more threads, and surprised at how many people (of a certain age) are starting out like myself B)

Hi,

My name is Jakob Sebens, and i'm from Holland.

I am 19 Years old and have currently 6 months of trials experience. I prefer to ride mod bikes because i feel safer and beacause of the are very manueverable.

This is my bike story by so far:

I've been riding trials for 4 months, and i really enjoyed it. Started out with an Monty 219 ALP with a steel frame.

after swapping the frame with a Zoo Python 2005 it was nice riding trials.

I decided to sell my trial when i was getting enthousiast by freeride. sold my trials bike and buyed a Specialized P2.

After a few months i was really missing trials. So i decided to sell the Specialized P2 and buy a 26" trial.

That was a Koxx XTP from 04. i rided it a few months and sold it because it just was not the bike i searched for. it was a trashbike. so i sold it.

I buyed a Specialized Rockhopper and i still have that bike. Now i ordered a Zoo! Lynx brand new. Ordered a few parts from tarty bikes and ordered the rest from a dude here in Holland.

Now in a few short weeks i'll get the Zoo! and i'm riding again. I have the video from Ryan Leech so it'll be quick learning.

I hope to enjoy this forum as the rest does.

I will post my new trials bike on the bike pictures topic when i finished.

Best regards,

Jakob Sebens

Hi there! Rode and raced mountain bikes for 15 years but I've stopped racing for many years. Currently I enjoy riding aggressive trail and some in the industry called this 'All Mountain'. Lately I've had less time (Family takes much of it) and driving to the trails is time consuming and so I had been thinking of trials as another means of enjoying 2 wheeled pleasures for months. Time wise I can just have fun outside my house. And trials had always fascinated me and I had always wanted to scratch this itch.....well, finally I am.

I've done my home work on the internet and it seems like mod is a good place to start. I was very much wanting a stock as I ride mountain bikes and that I can transfer the skills learnt and apply it on the trails. But it sure looks like mod is the way to go for a beginner and I'm quite sure it's a good place to start.

I've found a new Monty 219 Kamel and I'm set on it, in fact I've already made the purchase but haven't collected it. BTW, I've zero experience on riding trials and so it's going to be a huge learning experience....that's going to be exciting. I'm 39 years old and it's never too late to learn new things in life. "Old dogs can still learn new tricks!" LOL!

Andy

I'm not sad one bit but looking forward to this. I'm 39 and completely new to trials. I'm just happy I'm not 59!!
