I think a lot of it is just the filming. Really tight tripod shots just look dull. You lose the sense of surroundings, speed and so on, and are just left with a shot of mud flying around which doesn't really tell you too much.

Alex Rankin is still king :P

found that really boring... i don't know if i presume i'm more awesome that i actually am. but when i watch mtb stuff i seldom think, christ i couldn't do that on a bike.

You're right, you do and I doubt you could.

I actually liked the video, not the most amazingly filmed but not bad by any standards. The guy has some real flow and some nice touches (front bonk over the jump anyone?). I used to watch a lot of MTB vids and not think much of them but the more I MTB I can see what's going on and appreciate the skill level involved to ride at that speed with that control over the bike. It's certainly not as easy it it's made to look here.
