i have quite a lot of pads and rotors that give sub par performance, is there any way of getting them properly clean and decontaminated? i've used disc brake cleaner from a spray can but the brakes still under perform :(

I'm a bit excessive when it comes to this - but it works.

I sand both pads and rotor lightly.

Put both in the oven for a SHORT amount of time.

Fill a pan with very soapy water and boil both for a little.

Empty the water and re boil with clean water.

finally give both a good sand.

Make sure the caliper is free from oil and dirt before putting disc and pads back.

Bed in brale by riding trial, once bedded in cover with water to wash any bedding-in-crap off.

Good to go!

Aaaand now you may all laugh.

Until they start smoking is probably the answer. The plan is to burn off any oil. I usually use a blow torch or a cut down coke can filled with meths, bang pads in, set alight pick em out again when flame goes out.
