anzo
As a big fan of most must I'm bloody fustrated with how crap music has got. I go out regularly to gigs in pubs and clubs and find that these are either dying out or becoming one in the same. For example, every friday night I will go and see a band, don't care who it is, but if I see an advert for a band I know and like I'll see it. Although advertised bands have disappeared a bit, so its more of a hit and miss when you turn up at the pub to if you like them or not.Over the past 3 or 4 weeks I've been to see 5 bands, each one pretty much the same. All youngish lads who enjoy what they do, which I think its exellent. However, their playlist generally consisted of The Killers, RazorShite, Franz Ferdinand, Libertines ect.I find that everyone is starting to do this now and its killing live music, obviously, its a bit of a phase and no doubt the songs will die out when the bands do...but it this way, we all know the killers won't be around forever. But the number of audiences at these pubs has dramatically reduced and so pubs cannot afford higher profile bands...so the music just declines and declines until eventually they can't afford to have gigs anymore. So, a bit of a random rant. But its all sparked from my mate wanting to catch a bus for an hour and a half into Nottingham to see some band we saw in Derby a few weeks ago...however it may be more beneficial to sit at home with a carling and listen to Radio 1.Is anyone else finding this situation where they live? What pubs/bands to do you recommend?
Rebelistic
I've not seen that many live bands recently, but the ones I have seen have been pritty good IMO. One that stands out is Freestyle Collective where they do an open mike session where any singers/musicians can Jam with them live. You get some interesting stuff. But yeah I bet you do get a lot of bands just doing pop covers.

THE trials commentator
its definatly that way in the pubs round here... and i hate indie music.we have the Zodiac club in oxford, which was always good for variety, big bands, and up-coming/local talent.but its recently been confirmed that it's gonna be a carling academy.tickets were always no more than £10 no matter how big the band/artist,no doubt now though,it'll be way over that, and its only gonna be the big bands of the moment...what shite! im thoroughly upset with the music scene at the moment, apart from london's underground sleaze scene.i'm on a mission with my band to break this whole 'same sound' movement.i know we cant start a revolution or nowt, and the style has been done (80's),but i want to make the music world more varied again.meh...ramble!Carl
CBProductions
I engineer a local live music club up here and also help local bands and promoters to get stuff out there but the standard of music is dropping due to the increase in indie crap, there are by far a lot more talented bands going unnoticed due the indie and emo crap going about. However it is set to die out soon according to the media.I hear you concerns though as I must agree its sickening the lack of good music. trials_pimp
yea thats exactly it, all the Indie bollox. Its shit, they all sound the same, and that same is wank. Its just the Pop industry trying to become more Metal, but that will never happen because they just pick usless shit desinged to make money not music. All the "new wave indie" is complete crap. Indie died in the 90s, and that where it should stay.
