  1. Thanks! Mostly bought like that though I must admit, all I did was add a couple of gears with a 4 jeri tensioner (with bling gold jockey wheel!), echo controls (with cable routed through the steerer), 2nd hand gold hope headset, and a couple of other odds and sods. Edit: while I'm here, thinking about playing around with handle bars and stems, would like something to give me a nice mix of comfortable on the back wheel and still nice and spiny. Any suggestions?

  5. Why wouldnt it be compatible? you saved it as a .doc right? then it should work on a pc. At least thats what my 2004 word for mac save as options tell me.
  6. surly thats from the floor though, and so makes no difference to the bb height relative to the axle, which is what is quoted as bb height (as I understand it)?
  7. Could try finding a caliper brake to v brake adapter plate (like this), then see if you can position it so the bosses are in the right place, and there is enough plate covering the maggie mounts to allow you to drill holes into the plate and bolt it to the maggie mounts. Not sure if the adapter would have long enough arms though, or where the hell you could buy one from.
  8. Correct me if I'm wrong but I dont see how the bb height would change if you change wheel size. BB height is axle to BB rather than floor to BB, and as the axles are in the same place regardless of the size of the wheels the BB height wont change.
  9. I'm pretty sure I have heard of people using those pads on smooth rims before, so their performance should at least be okayish. I think it must be your bleed dude, unless you can see oil seeping out from somewhere? Try it again man, and consier doing a water bleed, it'll give you a better lever feel, plus it'll mean that you can fill the bucket right up to ensure the brake is submerged completly, which I dont know how you could be doing with oil. I have been running a water bleed for a couple years now in the same brake with no problems, and I'm sure there are others that have been doing so longer than I. If you do change to water, make sure you pass plenty through the brake to flush out all the oil. When you re-bleed use the following guide from wiki:
  10. I would check: That your not using standard black pads That the pads/rim are clean and have not got any oil on them from the bleed That the pads are hitting nice and square to the rim, both in terms of hitting the rim fully and hitting the rim squarely That you have set up the cylinders so that you do not need any TPA wound on (its turbo pad adjustment, and meant to be used to make up for wear until you get the cylinders adjusted closer) Finally check the bleed again, make certain that you have not got any air in the lines In terms of one pad hitting before the other, they tend to do that, it does not massively affect performance. It can be sorted by using a monty hose splitter, but that also means a new cylinder.
  11. I'd be watching some high def porn. Just imagine it.
  12. I used to use Transmission, its a great app beacuse its so lightweight, but it doesnt (or at least didnt when I was using it) support DHT, which as I understand it speeds up the process of finding peers even when the tracker is down. One thing you do want to do is not set the upload limit too high. I have mine set to about 17kb/s, but then my connection sucks. I dont know if it has een mentioned already but port forwarding could be an issue, look here.
  13. I used to run a derraileur with gears on my stock, but it bugged me as it required constant sorting after bashing the thing plus the weight over the 74kingz I have now, though I did like the options it gave me. On my 24" I run 2 gears with a 4-jeri. I change by using a allen key; its a pain in the arse but does the job and needs little f**king around with. If you looking to make something to give me gears, it would need to be light (ish), tough (so it doesnt need adjustment if knocked) and simple. (I didnt fill out any of the above, but felt compelled to stick my oar in elsewhere! )
  14. Hmm. I think that my views of religion are probably too western traditional in that I view religion indelibly linked with death and what comes after. There is pretty much either a yes or a no to that question, and such a truth to the answer which precludes choice. Anyway, I think all this off topic chatting does serve to illustrate just how much Christianity would need to change to adapt. > I'm late for climbing now!
  15. Ooooh! that makes me feel uneasy! I have a few friends that seem to cherry pic from each religion/theology what ever aspects suit them the most, tarrod cards from here, dream catchers from there, prayer beads from somewhere else. Something about the concept bothers me (not in a personal way though ). It feels a little too close to just making up whatever you to beleive in and, to me, that smacks a little too much of believing because you want to believe rather than because it is what you believe. Anyway, I'm expressing my own missgivings, they are by no means justified! Edit - I'm off to the climbing wall, so I'll catch up with this thread later.
  16. Ok, let me see if I get you this time! So your saying that those in positions of power in religions need to be more forward thinking and adaptable to matters like homosexuality in order to remain relevant and so make the more modern thinking people more likely to ascribe to their views? I don’t think people are that pragmatic, and I’m not sure people “pick” their religion in such a conscious manner. It would be cool though, you could have a website like “compare-prices.com” where you enter all the forwarding thinking parts of the religion that you would like and it comes up with a 5 star rating! I think people will always just make up/modify whatever shit they want to believe in. That’s why religion changes and why organised religion will always be transient. Religion won’t die, just whatever organisation behind it.
  17. So your saying Relgion needs to adapt to current times in order to remain relevant and so remain followed? That would follow that more recent religions would have more relevance. But to take an example at random (!) scientology is pretty recent (70s ish?) and yet it views are often backward (when they are not also insideout and upsidedown). This would suggest to me that the liklihood of religion to survive is more than just its ability to connect with present times. I don't think religion is going to die a death anytime soon. The human conidition of sentiance is as it has always been. Part of that is a bent towards religion. I dont think thats going away anytime soon.
  18. Agitated? Is that right? The word bothers me for some reason! Anyway, the guy I work for is a devout Christian, goes on the odd pilgrimage, also goes to Christian retreats and is the nicest most supporting guy I have met. I think (as ever) it depends on the individual and their interpretation. I think as time progresses more moderate views will be espoused simply to cater for the masses more. Makes you wonder if we'll see a "Is Religion dying a death" thread on tf in a generation or two!

  21. Surely that makes it our obligation to try and promote such discussion and not simply be a lurker? I think this has got to happen, otherwise the newer members will have no idea of what TF should be, making the chance of death that much greater.
  22. I think thats quite perceptive. I disagree with that completely and I think expressing such an opinion is probably only aggrevating matters rather than helping (just my opinion ). I think kids have always been the same, perhaps back in the day when trials was younger, there were less people into it, and they were more dedicated to the sport then the people that frequented the forum were different, but I think kids have always been kids. And if there has been a change surly its the fault of the adults (not necessarily parents) caring less and being less dedicated? What I am saying is that if you want a change, and you care enough, then do something about it. Encourage debate, make a point of not making those witty comments. Dont just sit back say "oh kids today"! I'm not saying this is what you are doing, but just trying to make a point
