    Best Way To...

I did get my 8" disk hot enough to burn myself while getting off my bike, I would say it's enough of a tempurature change to modify the heat treatement...

    I Got Owned!

    My heart cries for you.
  3. Ehm I think my biggest sponsor right now is Phat Moose Cycles, normally, I don't have to pay the extra little change and they lowered the price on my frame by 10$ because I didn't want to cut my 20$ hahaha. But most of all, they let me use theire tools and advice .

    Calluses

Anyone get them on their indexes? I'm used to having them on on my palms and such because I have been riding for quite a while, but since I started riding trials (a couple months ago) I get some on my right index, right under where I pull on the lever, depending of the angle of my wrist, it can hurt really badly when squeezing the lever...
  5. Are you sure you're setting them up right ? Are you greasing your cables before putting them in the liner ? I found that's probably the best thing you can do for a mechanical disc, also, using a decent lever helps. Heck I'm riding a tektro caliper right now, as a back brake (200mm rotor help quite a bit), yes I'm both cheap and not verry demanding of my brakes or verry hard on them. Were you using the stock pads on the Hopes ? Is your disc excessively dirty ? As for your Caliper breaking, does your adapter have a large enough base for it ?
  6. Hahaha that guy is on my local bike forum. That was basicly a running joke about him fixing his bike with a hammer. You might want to know that he also rode his bike without bearings in his headset for a year, and it actually felt fine... Pretty funny dude.
  7. I don't know if it's the same square tapper, but some 3 piece BMX cranks use square tapper. You could take the axle and external bearings cups.
  8. Do you know who they would be building it for ?
  9. I might have found the perfect rim, weird that no one had thought of them before... It's the sun ringlé mtx. Actually has a small braking spot, 605gram and pretty damn strong.
  10. "The only reason there's not more info yet is because this was a custom frame project in the first place and now frames will be going into production because people have been asking for it. Still no name for the brand. There's no rush since the first frames won't be ready until January. All the information will be available then." Trialmedia, quoting dob, I guess.
  11. Sorry to revive this thread, but I have the proof I was right, it's a dobermann, give me a prize now ! I can't get a decent link, sadly here's just the picture with there stencil and if you want the real thing to prove I didn't just photoshopped it and hacked my way into there site to put it, head over to http://www.dobermannbikes.com/ then pop up the main window then media, product pics, scroll down to Custom Fabrication, and voilà !
  12. Another thing to think of that wasn't mentioned is the gear ratio... I'm running a ridiculously hard ratio, what do most of you use. I'm guessing most are riding harder then stocks, right ?
  13. Depends, landing laterally is probably harder on the wheel, though this depends alot on the rim used, and of course the lacing.
  14. Defenetly go forward with that idea ! As for parts, the boon, mentioned a couple of tires, I'd add the Kenda k-rad to the list (I don't know if it's available in the UK) it's basically a soft bead, soft compound, really light, slick tire, only comes in 2.3 width, if that matters to you. Another thing to consider on a 24" is that weight matters less than on a stock and the bike will probably get beaten up more, torsion forces applied from spins would probably kill certain trials specific parts very fast. So you might want to take a look at some MTB and BMX parts, especially since some of them are cheaper... You might want to try some of your friends 24"ers before deciding wish way you want to go, because, I think there are allot more choices to make a on a street bike than a pure trials bike... Especially how you want to ride it if you're a first timer.
  15. If you manage to find them, please post them up, I'm interested...

    James Barton Video

Fact, if your a trials rider from Canada, your chances of being a beast just doubled. Really sick riding, man. Is part of the riding in Ottawa ?

Aaah, what I nice discution I seriously don't understand what there is to moan about. Coming from a non trials back ground (street on mtb) , I used to find trials a bit boring because it's not verry rithymic nor flowy, thought I admired the balance and the good use of big wheels on the street, and of course the gaps. But then I discovered guys mixing things up, and I really think that's the path big wheel should take in a urban environement. I personally prefer riding and looking at someone who's just flowing but will probably never break anykind of record than someone side hopping 80"...

    Short Video

Awsome to see you back, I looked at you tvi.gst account regularly. Nice filming and riding in your latest vid, it needs to be longer !
  19. Most of that allready exists, I personally have a bolt-on axle on my 24". Just take a look over to the freeride and street MTB and BMX parts. Of course they might not be at "trials weight" but if your'e able to ride with a couple pounds more, it really opens doors. Especially for street riders (of course 24") because most of us aren't aiming to gap 10' rail to rail but are looking for flow more than inches, and our bikes take a beating because of the immense torsion forces, from spins, not found in other forms of riding.
  20. My mom appreciates my riding, somewhat, actually understands that enjoy riding my bike. My dad doesn't really get the point of it but still finds it some sort of skill. My brother is awsome even though he rode more freeridish kind of stuff when he used to ride, he totally gets technical riding on bikes. He's a bit the one that pushed me to put a trialsy feel [ok it's maybe a bit more than a feeling now...] in my riding when I started riding street/park on big wheels. -Louis
  21. I'd have to go with horz, having used some their'e seriously way less trouble than verticals, just get a real bolt-on axle and your on your way. Thought I don't know how well horizontal drop-outs work with maggies. Another entersting desing for frames with bmx sized bb and vert drop-outs (not that there are alot trials frames with bmx bbs...) is an eccentric adaptor to regular bb size...
  22. My LBS will be getting some of them soon, so I asked them about it. Here's what they awsered me back. "I talked to Stealth a couple of weeks ago and asked the same questions. With the original design there were some problems with SOME failures of the drive mechanism (some with trials riders and some with long hill XC climber types). There new hub supposedly has a 20% increase in torque handling capabilities....though I want to actually open one up and see whats going on inside (they use a roller clutch bearing)" I guess this isn't the best setup for riders who might be on the heavy side and pedal kick like there was no tomorrow, but hey freewheels break also. Thought I wounder if you can get replacement parts for them, if they do happen to break...
  23. I "grind" mine, about every month. With about 800 grit sand paper, the kind for wet sanding, I gently give the rotor a rub with the sand paper under water, to remove part of the exess black rotor stuff on the rotor. But I don't do it until it's squeaky clean. Same thing with my pads, I sand off a worn out layer of pad. Then wash them with rubbing alcohol, works awesome.
