  1. Hi all I don't post on here a lot but I'm aware that there are some computer-literate folks using the forum? Anyway... basically I've got this histogram I need to do for a school project but despite spending over 4 hours on it, I can't get my head round how it works. The situation is... there are three diciplines within a company ("Cost Management", "Planning" and "Procurement") - over a given period of time, a trainee within the company would spend a set amount of time studying each dicipline. I need to have a histogram showing this. I've made something in paint to resemble roughly what I'm trying to achieve. The trainee would spend 6 months in each dicipline, starting from Nov-09 onwards. Like I've said, I've fiddled on with excel for well over 4 hours and can't get my head around how to do this, I've laid the data out several ways and tried using different chart types and what not, but just can't get the result I'm looking for. If anyone can help me out it would be much appreciated! Josh.
  2. Thanks for the help everyone. Can't believe you found that site hahah, set it up ages ago because someone (think it was the person here who said his friend does it) mentioned it so I thought I'd have a go Anyway, turns out it was the cup that the driveshaft sits in had come out as it didn't have a circlip on it. I just pushed it back into place and put a circlip on it and it's fine now
  3. Just had a check, does anyone know if the seat where the driveshaft sits can be swapped over?
  4. Hi, a friend's gearbox recently bust on his 51 plate clio. I said that i'd put a new one in for him.. he went off and bought a gearbox (paid 100 quid, its got the same code as his engine, although it's out a 55 plate clio)... anyway, as ive just got this new gearbox onto the engine and im ready to put the driveshafts in, i notice that on the passenger side, the design of where the driveshaft fits is different to that of my friends old gearbox. The design inside is the same, so i had a go at fitting the shaft but due to the new gearbox's design causing the driveshaft seating to petrude more than the old gearbox, the driveshaft sticks out too much and as a result i cannot connect the bottom arm to the two bolts above. Obviously my friend doesn't want to pay for another gearbox, i was just wondering if there's anyway i could get around this (new driveshaft) etc. Or maybe the bottom arm just needs to be levered as it is a tight fit? Any help is greatly appreciated! My friend needs his car sorted asap for travelling to work and back. Josh.
  5. Heres some stuff about PRV's, may help you:
  6. I would have said its your wheel balencing. If it was a wheel bearing it would probably make a noise at a little less than 50mph and would be a kind of whirring sound, if it caused vibration the wheel bearing would be badly nackered i'd think. Another thing it may be is your tracking (alignment of the front wheels), this can cause vibration if your tracking is out. It can be knocked out by bashing up kerbs or hitting big potholes etc. First thing i'd do though is get your wheel balencing checked and if nessecary sorted (shouldn't cost much, i paid 5 quid for 4 wheels to be done). There's also a car problem thread i made to try and keep all these topics into one place: http://www.trials-forum.co.uk/forum/index....p;#entry1805800 Good luck getting the problem sorted
  7. Get yourself back to Hospital, you'll regret not getting it sorted properly unless it's a very small fracture. The bone may have broke over a growth plate, in which case, if the bone isn't aligned back up properly, your thumb will heal deformed and grow deformed.....
  8. Buggered cooling fan? (if it has one)..
  9. May do an engine flush. Moving back onto the churning noise, as people were saying it could be a warped clutch component, is it possible the noise is my release bearing?
  10. Broke my left wrist twice and broke my right collar bone once. Second time i broke my wrist wasn't very nice, my arm was bent back where the bone snapped..
  11. Back onto the subject of noisey tappets - ive been reading some stuff and i think what im gonna try is an engine flush as im due an oil change round about now anyway, see if it gets rid of any gue / deposits, apparently that can effect the noise of the valve lifters.... Ill let you all know how i get on.
  12. Already changed the box oil with some fresh today, couldn't see any metal pieces, although saying that i didn't really have a good check as i drained the oil into a plastic container which i couldn't really see into.... Looking like i've warped something Cheers for the help
  13. I don't kill my car everywhere but i enjoy giving it the beans every now and then...... so oil circulation should be ok, i do quite a lot of miles as well usually and never rev the engine stupidly while it's cold (for obvious reasons). As for the churning sound i'm not 100% that it is the gear box, just a guess due to the nature of how it works - what could cause a warped friction plate or flywheel as you say? Just if the clutch takes a hammering and gets very hot? Thanks for all the replies
  14. Like hydraulic, auto adjusting... that's what i'm sure of, hence why i'm confused by them making tapping noises, the engine in my car has only got about 40,000 miles on it, so i shouldn't think any of the valve components are worn? I also changed my gearbox oil today, had some heavy duty, really thick stuff in and i replaced it with 80w/90 stuff that's supposed to be in, although there's still a churning noise coming from the gearbox, thought it would have solved that noise putting the new oil in as any metal shreads causing the churning noise would have came out with the old oil? ..... Any ideas what the churning sound could be? Again, thanks for any help, i appreciate it
  15. Hi, over the past few months when I've been on the forum I've noticed quite a few topics with people asking for help or advice on their cars... maybe a good idea to keep them all in one thread? I could be wrong. Anyway, while I'm here, I have a question about my Renault Megane 1.6 16v, 2001 Mk1 - when the engine's running I can hear a sort of "tapping" noise, very well known to be the tappets but my question is, is it normal for them to make a vague sound (I think oil pressure can affect this, but my oil level is fine and as far as I know my oil pump works fine). It isn't really bad, just if I listen carefully I can hear a tapping noise, particularly when the engine's cold - do tappet-type valves just do this due to the design or are some components worn or is something buggered up? Any input appreciated
  16. Couldn't it be the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve? If you've been sticking crap petrol in it, a lot of carbon could build up and block your EGR valve, causing the car to run like rubbish / cut out at low revs... Just happened to my mate, he's got a Corsa that burns oil like a 2-stroke, guessing that could be why his EGR valve clogged up. Idle control valve is a possible culprit, although if it was that, surely the engine would only cut out when the RPM drops below the idle? http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/index.php - I find that quite a good forum for help on french cars Good luck getting it sorted.
  17. That's rather expensive - im 17, passed august time last year, im paying 50 quid a month fully comp on my dads policy on a 1.6 16v petrol.. Just shop around, im sure you'll get it cheaper than that - try some other comparison sites, www.gocompare.com, www.moneysupermarket.com etc One i'd say you could try though is co-op - my mates same age as me, he gets insured for 850 ish 3rd party F&T own policy on a 1.3 12v petrol I hate it how insurance is so much for young male drivers, especially when not all of them are actually high risk
  18. Ah i see, this doesn't relate to the idleing etc but a few times (since i put the new engine in, about 10,000 miles ago), the "SERVICE" light and air bag light have came on, then when i've turned the ignition off and back on, they've went off..... is this anything to worry about, and does anyone know what could be causing it? Cheers for the help
  19. Didn't get the full day off 6th form, but 4th, 5th and 6th lessons were cancelled
  20. Since i put my new engine in my 2001 Renault megane 1.6 16v, the ideling never stays constant, with other car's i've been in it isn't perfectly still but close enough. Mine alternates about 300RPM up or down usually..... I heard a "buzzing" sort of noise coming from the engine bay and i narrowed it down to being this sensor (unsure of the name) on part of the airbox, took it off, cleaned it up but it still buzzes frequently and im thinking this could be something to do with the tickover being dodgy, if it's some sort of idle control valve? Any ideas on what the problem could be? Any help much appreciated everyone!
  21. That's something else i don't get, as Tomm mentioned, the amount of people that crash..... Drive to the conditions right? I see people tail-gateing people in these "compact snow/ice" conditions, then crashing and wondering why they crashed. As has been said though, i suppose its because the UK isn't used to these conditions. Maybe "driving in snow/ice" should be added to part of the UK driving test, like something you're told about to help you drive safely when the weather takes a turn for the worst.
  22. That's what it sounds like to me. If i was you i'd have (as has been said before), got it checked out by more than one garage to get different opinions, just to make sure it was actually the cam belt. And by the sounds of it, it wasn't the cam belt, and by the sounds of things (as most garages do), they're trying to get as much money off you as is possible. Anyway, good luck with getting it all sorted.
  23. Rain got rid of most of it where i am, people are saying there's worse yet though, although checking the BBC weather forecast for my area it doesn't mention snow
