  1. Relevant Article actually a wide rim means that you are less likely to get a puncture!! use comp 24 or maxxis dual ply with standard tube, even on a d521 then you will have no problems. I used to use an El Gato and get one a ride, i switched to comp24 2.2 a year ago and have had none!!
  2. Its well cheeky to ask for a bolt on warrenty!! considering it has most likely to have been rounded off by someone either being careless or using bad tools or both. (Y) Send them a couple of quid.
  3. Just a thought but do you have a lot of lube on your chain? To be honest clean everything twice!!!! Get new pads, reset up your brake, check for any leaking, seepage, rubbing, damage, then see what happens, i'd be surprised if you still have a problem
  4. Hey man a sports shop will probably be your best bet, i got a knee support when i grew a third knee next after hitting it badly on the coping of a ramp. They are normally made of a stretchy neoprene type material and do work well. The best thing to do is rest it, but if you have to ride (like i did) then get a support. If it continues to hurt though after a week go to the hospital or GP and see what they think about it.
  5. 1.spray muck off on your rim ride your bike round with the brake on, 2.wipe off resulting mess, 3.reapeat until tissue is clean ( :D (Y) ) 4.errr then spray a little in one place on the rim and ride round with the brake on, 5.let everything dry and your brake should be immense. This works really well with plazmatic!! note: in part 4. replace muck off with water if you are using rim jams, as this works better on the blues that i use and muck off killed james' red pads.
  6. lol, my green jim jams kept me warm all night, snug as a bug.. lol The blue Rim Jam pads are very nice, however they dont keep you warm.
  7. Oh yeah i forgot to mention that the shifter was one that had the bolt on top of the bar mount. So when i cut off the bar mount the thread for the bolt was left in the actual shifter body and not in the part i cut off... probably obvious to most but hey... (Y)
  8. This is an old pic and about the only time its seen natural lol ill get a newer pic tnt... ps bring back the Zebdi!!!
  9. lets all ride mod and live in leeds then, i put it there because it solved a problem, it suited my needs and i wanted to ... (Y)
  10. maybe when im riding along playing with my hole ill look like im shifting (Y)" :P
  11. read my review in pad reviews section, very relevant!!!!
  12. well no they are not but ive already answered it really
  13. no difference in the brake as its only one small hole and thats filled completely by the shifters bolt. basicall i just cut off the bar mount and just put the bolt through the booster and tightened it up, it took a lot of fiddling to get it to shift still but i cut down the levers as well and it works fine
  14. nice one luke, it works really well, and its completely hidden by the seat....
  15. slightly modified xt shifter lol mounted to Shimano Booster.... had to drill the booster though  but have one spare (Y)
  16. WILL that "diagram" lol was of grinding at 45 degrees, if "If the rim was ground the other way round the surfaces that the pad would be able to grip on would therefore possibly not be as harsh?" (from my other post) then just take the pad as being the non drive side or left and the rim rotating to the right and you might get what i mean. at 45 degrees the resultant edges left by the grinder should in theory make for a better grind, like shark skin smoothish one way but really rough the other...
  17. Thinking about it the direction in which you grind the rim; if you grind at an angle less than 90 degrees might make a difference to the performance. If you ground your rim at 45 degrees for arguments sake then would could you get a better bite form the brake if you ground the rim non drive side anti clockwise and the drive side clockwise? To explain my thinking: the surface of the rim if ground like this could potentially leave more agressive edges for the pads to grip ie. insert crap picture (pads) If the rim was ground the other way round the surfaces that the pad would be able to grip on would therefore possibly not be as harsh? Just a thought, and as you can tell form the diagram im just bored at work and wondered if it would make a difference? 90 degrees makes the most sense, The rim in the crap picture is rotating to the left, therefore the pad would be the drive side pads.bmp
  18. is that just what it looks like? or is it just the light?
  19. ive got a practically unused trailstar you could have... (Y)"
  20. my name is Grant Peters!! "Pete" is Tipsy Jock who also posted in this thread. good luck (N)
  21. Pete's one did not hold at all on an edge! and seemed to give him real problems everywhere, it honestly held him back!! i cant do anymore for you, even if you got it cheap its still a waste of money. (N)
  22. Dont get an avid! I had the same problem with my hands and with cramps in my forearm, get softer pads for your maggy!! i now run rim jam blues and have had no problems what so ever, i also noticed that using an rb lever had the same effect, you dont have to pull so hard to get the same bite/hold so your hand and arm dont get fatigued as fast!! an avid for the rear is a waste of money!!
  23. To be honest dont, i recon pete was actually held back by the performance of his back brake, he is a much better rider than his bike would let him be. dont get one. (pete glad to hear you have a maggie and your new frame, hope its working out for you man!!! (N) it should instantly help your riding a lot!!)
  24. PADS: Rim Jam Blue TIME USED: Around 3 weeks. RIM USED: Mavic 521 CD GRIND?: No BRAKE USED: 04 Magura, Shimano Carbon Booster, Goodridge hose WHAT IS YOUR OPINION OF GOOD WORKING BRAKE: Doesn't slip, not too grabby as i ride street. OTHER PADS USED: Koolstops for about 6 months, Planet x stickys for about a day (but for ages on the front V brake they are very good on a front Cd rim!!!!), plazmatic crm's for 3 years REVIEW: I was really doubtful about pads that in reality are much cheaper than plazmatics. I was also worried about how the lever would feel with a softer pad. However i shouldnt have been! Lever feel is really nice!! Whilst Plaz's are either grabby or do not work, the blue Rim Jams are not grabby at all, but have massive hold and very good modulation. They have not slipped on me once, getting up or gapping and once they start to fade (which takes much longer than plaz's) they come back to life with a little water and a quick ride around. I can see that on a soft rim they would be much grabbier, but on the cd they suit me down to the ground. On a relevant note my friend james bought the red ones at the same time. He runs them on a CD521 and so we can directly compare the two compounds. The lever feel is still reasonably firm but the instant bite is much more apparent. So there you have it more bite = red, good hold with more modualtion then blue. I recommend them both, . james ripped the red ones out of the backing and has return to plazmatics, mine are still going strong...
  25. Ive used them for about 2 months now and they with the new style middleburn bashguard saved not too far off 1/2lb of my bike, with no loss of strength, which is nice. They do loose pins but ive only lost them off one side of one pedal as im careful which side i use. They are very nice pedals for the money, very grippy, and will loose you some weight over v12's for example. I will buy them once these free ones wear out lol. Cheers luke :) Ps. Ricky Gunner (BMX rider) round my way has them with Ti axles!!! I want some of them for sure!!!! (N) Hidden Nation
