  1. Check out these photos and videos of an event we did last year: - Photos - Video 1 - Video 2 The Tarty Days riding kit will be based on the same ideas but set out in a different configuration.
  2. I'll post a link up once the pre-registration has gone online
  3. hehe - sorry! Next year maybe? No exams then right!?
  4. Pre-registration opens in the next few days Excited? Hope so!
  5. A lot has been going on behind the scenes. I'm glad everyone is getting excited. Tarty Days is just over a month away. The final insurance details have just been confirmed so... Online pre-registration will be opening in a few days time. --- To alleviate any confusion that had arisen (donations, raffles, etc) I have now decided that attendees will pay a flat fee when they pre-register. £10 £5 donation to Tearfund. £5 contribution to the event running costs. Clearly if only £5 of each persons £10 fee goes towards the event running costs then the total amount collected will NOT cover the total event costs. Tarty Bikes have stepped in and picked up the tab on behalf of the trials community. A BIG thanks to them. Two forms of event insurance have had to be taken out which has increased the costs of the festival substantially. I hope that the fact that the cost is now set at £10 instead of the originally muted £6 will not put people off. Furthermore, I assure you, I will not earn a penny from organising this event. FULL details will be posted on TF and will also appear on the pre-registration page of the Tarty Bikes website in a few days time. Thank you.
  6. Amazing! Absolutely loved that
  7. Thanks for your comments and taking the time to give your feedback you raise a lot of good points. They will certainly influence my thinking as we move forward with the decision making. Cheers
  8. Donations will be set at £6 when you register on the Tarty Bikes website. ALL ATTENDEES MUST PRE REGISTER When you pre-register you will get an event wrist band posted out to you. It goes without saying that you need to bring this with you and be wearing it throughout the weekend! For the generous amongst you, there will be opportunity AT THE EVENT itself to increase your donation. You will do this by coming and finding me in person (then I can thank you personally!). Anyone who does this and gives over and above the suggested £6 donation will be given an additional wrist band (of a different colour) with an ID number on it. They will be entered into a prize draw and at the end of the weekend will have the chance of taking home some freebie goodies. To encourage everyone to PRE ENTER anyone who turns up and wants to pay on the day will be asked to kindly donate £10 (still with half going to charity). The donation stands at £6 for pre-registration regardless of whether or not you are attending for 1 day or all 3. Keep the questions coming if there are any more! Peace
  9. WE'RE ON!! Tarty Days 2010 11th - 13th June More festival details HERE Trials Chat thread HERE
  10. Adam is being very modest. The truth is this; Yes after long negotioations I have managed to agree a price for showers and camping with the landowners which is far more than will ever be recouped by a £3 (the other £3 going to charity) donation per rider. Despite his modesty I'd like to make it clear that if it were not for the financial backing of Tarty Bikes this event simply could not happen. BIG thanks to Tarty Bikes! Tarty Days 2010 - the count down is on!

  12. For 2010 The Bike Fest organised by Matt Barlow presents Tarty Days 11th - 13th June 2010 ----------------------------------- All the event details can be found at: www.slowprogress.co.uk Click on 'THE BIKE FEST' on the main menu Tarty Days details in brief (all subject to change, see website for more details): - 3 day UK trials festival - Camping and parking on site - Huge main trials arena - Extra sections to cater for all abilities - Evening BBQ - Tarty involvement means entry is FREE with a request for a optional small donation. - Half of your event donation will go directly to Tearfund charity the other half will go towards covering additional event costs. - £6 for the three days, is the suggested donation but it is not mandatory. You can give more or indeed less. - Attendance requires online pre registration which will be available closer to the time of the event. ----------------------------------- NOTE 1: I have put a lot of effort into getting this Tarty Days event to this stage. It is not yet 100% confirmed to go ahead. This is the point at which we need you to show your interest. Adam, at Tarty Bikes, has been amazing to step up and say he is interested in getting this event off the ground. Negotiations with him are not yet finalised and if this event doesn't happen then it is not due to his lack of support but to circumstances outside of our control. I'd just like to say a public thank you to him. NOTE 2: The website containing event details if far from finished. It was not meant to be launched until a lot more work had gone into it. There are a lot of errors that I can only apologise for. I have launched it now because I want you all to put these dates in your diary and show your interest. I only had the confirmation yesterday that I can hire the event show ground so I burned the midnight oil to bring you these details. At any point, if you come across a bug and the website slows or crashes, simply reload the site by clicking the link above. <<Videos are being uploaded as I type and may not work until the morning>> ----------------------------------- Looking forward to hearing everyone's thoughts Any questions just ask. The mad rush on getting these details online is that I leave to France in a few hours for a week and a bit so forgive me if I don't answer question straight away. Peace Barlow
  13. I don't mean this as an insult to your intelligence I'm just doing what Sherlock Holmes would suggest - "When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth" If you have just bought the hub then are you running your old chain on the old cog that came with the hub? (or a new chain with an old cog or and old chain with a new cog - you get my drift!) It could be this causing the chain to slip, resulting in a knee stem moment, and not actually a skip of the hub internals. Just one to rule out that's all.
  14. Looking forward to that mate
  15. Good news! A well known and loved company with a strong association with the UK trials scene (any guesses?) is offering to support the event pending confirmation of the final details. Keep the 11th-13th June 2010 free in your diaries! ----------------------- Yeah, when I've got some more details confirmed that might be a a way of establishing vague interest.
  16. Thanks for all the supportive comments. Things are moving along now with the planning. Hopefully I can give more details next week. Cheers everyone Peace
  17. As a pilot film for an upcoming project I recently made a short trials film with the Bamboo Chicken production team. The LLAMFF Mountain Film festival has featured two of the trials clips in the trailer. There's only one or two seconds of trials but there is a healthy dose of inspiration from the other sports that are featured. Another featured film is Leo Houlding's amazing Asgard Project Peace Barlow
  18. Mind blowing! It's hard to fully comprehend actually how difficult those lines are. Love it.
  19. Not yet unfortunately mate. I've not been able to put any time into it recently because of other riding commitments. I'm away now for a week skiing but when I'm back in the UK I'll get on it. Unless things happen soon it'll have to wait until 2011 which would be a shame (I need more hours in the day!). The more support shown on here by people then the more likely I'll be able to convince sponsors to get involved and make this happen. It's obviously a risk if I front the cost of booking the facilities, showers, course building etc etc then people don't attend! I know it can work and there is potential for it to be amazing. Keep your thoughts coming please. Dave am I right in thinking that this was, at least in part, a comment made in jest? I'm sure speed trials could be on the menu but even winning it certainly won't mean you'd be able to retire early! The idea of the festival is about like minded people coming together, having a great time and doing what we love. Obviously if a big name sponsor were to support the event then.....
  20. The June dates look the most likely choice at the moment.
  21. What a huge honour - well done Danny, it's well deserved. It's fantastic that our sport is being recognised at this level.
  22. I'm glad a few people have expressed interest. We'd need large numbers to make it viable. If this is the sort of event you'd attend then please let me know and share your thoughts. Thanks for your thoughts. It festival itself will be on privately owned land; far enough away from anywhere that there'll be no problems about having a huge party at night but close enough to a town to drive and get supplies. The idea of having a natural trials group ride (mentioned above) is maybe what you are referring to - that would be on National Park land and may, in part because of the reasons you stated, not be feasible.
  23. Point taken. Even though local knowledge of where exactly to ride would go a long way in aliviating any potential problems it might not fully eliminate them. It's something to look into, thanks for bringing it up. I climb regularly with some of the rangers so I'll talk to them. If it's an idea worth pursuing (i.e. there is enough interest from people in having the option to ride mountain natty on one day of the festival) then we'd need clearance to ride one of the quieter areas. The two valleys have almost limitless potential and scope for riding; it's not difficult getting away from the ramblers. Great thanks, I'll take you up on that offer. Cheers - it's stuff like this that is great to know now rather then later!
  24. EDIT 5th May: Final insurance details ares sorted. Pre-registration opens on the Tarty Bikes website in the next few days. Trials Chat Topic --------------------- EDIT on the 13th April: The Bike Fest will present tarty Days for 2010 check out THIS THREAD for more details --------------------- EDIT on 18TH MARCH: Good news! A well known and loved company with a strong association with the UK trials scene (any guesses?) is offering to support the event pending confirmation of the final details. Keep the 11th-13th June 2010 free in your diaries! ----------------------- The cogs are in motion for a huge UK Trials Festival in 2010. At the moment the idea is in its infancy, all details are subject to change and all the info I currently have I am sharing with you. At this stage I would like to know if this is of interest to people and for your general thoughts on the idea. Details as they stand: - Location: North Wales (this is set and not open to discussion) - Dates: 11th-13th June 2010 - Duration: Fri aft - Sun - Camping on site with parking, toilets, power supply and showers included - Massive custom built trials arena. - Title Sponsor: We are in talks with the main UK protagonists - Evening bonfires and BBQs - Much, much, more... Cost: £10. To partially cover hire of the land, equipment, parking, camping site, showers, toilets, power supply etc etc. It seems from the quotes below, taken from the forum recently, that there may indeed be support for such a festival. Looking forward to the feedback. Bring it on!!! -------------------- Quotes taken from THIS thread:
