  1. I am currently running a hope trials hub on my all mountain bike. This obviously has a disadvantage of gear spread (?) My question is: I have an 8speed cassette 11-32 and was wondering what was the biggest tooth step up can I get away with to cut out 2 gears and keep both the 11 and the 32. I hope that makes sense.   4. Mud is deffinately part of the fun but it is seriously muddy round here, one cannot see half of the time going downhill and the mud tends to have rocks in it also. Cannot fit a downtube jobby I dont think because of the shape of the downtube on my bike.
  5. I am looking for a mudguard like this: But cant seem to find one for 1.5 steerer tube forks. anyone know if there are any for this size tube.
  6. Ok do you find it really makes a difference to rolling over shit? My main reason for asking is I havnt had a 26" mountain bike for years (about 8-10years) Would 26" front 24 help me at all or am I clutching at straws? I am trying to reduce cost as much as possibles.
  7. I am currently running 24" rims on my AMB mainly because that is all I had. Other reasons include i am a short ass so it helps me get my feet on the floor if I need to without busting my nuts and I like 24" wheels generally. Seeing as I am going to be buying a King hub pretty soon I thought well I may as well change to 26 now if I am going to. Can you please supply reasons for bothering. Thanks.
  8. Steerer tube snappage! U understand exactly what you are saying. Problem is the maths does not explain it. If it was just down to exceeding the 'strength' of the bar during a move then bars would not last past the first move if you get me. It is down to work hardening in alloy bars. Steel bars snap because they are either under-engineered or they have a fault in them. Under engineered as in the flex is past the elastic limit, or a fault in the tube or weld. As you know as long as you don't exceed the elastic limit in steel you can flex it effectively forever.

  10. This is more important than its tensile strength in this application. As I said workhardening is probably what leads to alloy bars having sudden catstrophic failure rather, and hence the perception of steel bending before it snaps and alu just straight out snapping. I could be wrong but there you go.
  11. I would say Aluminium breaks in one hit like that because of workhardening rather than the tensile strength of the material.
