Personally i think headlocks are better. You dont have to worry about star nuts any longer, just tighten it and job done! As for weight, they arn't too heavy. If i was you, i'd sacrifice a litte bit of weight for one.

Could be your starnut, order a new one or if you dont want to use star nuts buy a headlock. Star nut Headlock Sam

Welcome to the forum. First of all, i would scrap gyro's. Just put on longer cables if your worried about them being to short for a certain whip.trick. If you want to go down these kind of lines then a Onza Zoot would be good. Bit pricey but im sure they are worth it.
