  1. topic question - why so many stem stackers? topic answer - because it feels better and there arent bars available to provide the adequate rise been watching the topic as its progressed...personally with something as important as bars, an extra 20-30 quid for reputable decent ones is more than worth it. can only imagine a worse case scenario with a set of bars that snap mid move
  2. brilliant loved how many times throughout this topic the whole point was missed (by more than just the starter) im not sponsored, but i imagine the basics include: bike related (that im sure you know) 1. a decent level of riding 2. an innovative interesting style others 1. youre an advert for the product - appeal to others in whatever way you can, have a likeable personality, where people warm to you, trust your views and opinions and will be attracted to the product you are (essentially) showing off to sell 2. the above may involve playing the 'game' with the requests of forum members, regardless of your thoughts on it - they no doubt make well over of the trials community in the uk, and will inevitably be the buyers of your sponsors product 3. communication between you and the public/customers - again, youre sponsored, youre an advert. if you cant get your message across very well thats a little bit of a put off to sponsors. this does unfortunately involve spelling and grammer () 4. your general attitude and how you conduct yourself in most areas of life (including riding) - i imagine a positive role model - unselfish, friendly, hardworking, persevering etc all being traits that would be attractive.
  3. depends, they are full of women...that could lead to potential dates/alcohol consumption...leading onto that comfortable feeling whilst with a gf - which could in turn lead to further weight gain saying that, the excitment and full w**k bank that could result could provoke further wrist exercise which is handy for your riding and calorie burning in short its just another class based exercise, no better or worse than others for loosing weight. much cheaper/more effective and 'trials productive' ways are out there *edit - btw, youre a guy and definately shouldnt be looking at your weight, it means very little whilst assessing your fitness/body. muscle weighing more than fat means that it is possible to stay the same, or even gain weight whilst getting smaller after exercise
  4. soon as i get the edit done with the original mp4's thanks to all the comments, didnt expect as pleasant a response! all very much appreciated (including the constructive critisms) to shark - its scotland and im only really a fair weather rider im lucky that my shifts let me go out 3/4 times a week for a few hours...i just enjoy going out and learning new things, never get bored of it....pushing myself and taking out whatever crap thats gone on during the day on the bike!
  5. i did wonder that...i stripped some things this time last year and it seemed alot stronger, ingredients and times to leave on were slightly different despite the 'double strength' it claims im a bit relieved that was the norm on other fourplay frames, cheers mark. anyway, back to work *edit - just did a little reading up and yeh, they have changed the formula to something that doesnt work a fraction as well, seems to be a reoccuring problem with most people in my boat! anyone with any better alternatives, please let me know
  6. 1. no - tarty took off the cranks/headset as i dont have the tools for that to hand...saints are on order too so i can sell the holz-somthings as unused, essentially brand new 2. the gf is taking the odd photo yes! JD - i agree, and there is technically no reason why id need anything else either...im with you on that one, but ive worked my ass off over the last few years and figured i deserved a treat (all be it one that is now needing hours more work and elbow grease to finish it!)
  7. something that i tried aswell that may/maynot have helped was 4 decent spring washers....got then for free, didnt even need to tighten the setup massively and it held a treat even if it adds a little, it helps
  8. haha, im not going to lie - there is a little part of me that though what the f**k am i doing! but i want it to be my dream bike, not dannys...so heres hoping it works out ok! also - i think anyone who knew it was a sig edition would recognise it as that even in disguise have got the paint sorted thanks andrew, they do a fair amount of bikes and im 100% confident they know what theyre doing...they were worried that their acid tank may affect the frame so i decided to take on the stripping part myself watch this space - thanks guys!
  9. Dammmmmm!!!! for anyone considering stripping the skye frame, make sure you have plenty of nitromorse and plenty of patience...i was told that the coating was thick but didnt expect it to be that bad/good! very impressed with the quality of it (nitromorse left on 15mins and barely a hint of a blister to give you an idea) to whoever wants to keep the frame as it is...i imagine it'll withstand a fair amount of abuse before it even thinks about starting to look tatty
  10. nice...how are you finding the rear disc on it? rode one a while back, felt very nice...so much more 'trialsy' than the fourplay with the setup i rode
  11. edinburgh has quite a mix, can often surprise you! lost count of the number of times the police have walked past, chatted, asked if 'im that guy on youtube' (hurray haha) etc etc...then moments later an angry random person will make a point of going out of their way to tell me how bad it is that im riding on things! security guard wise, as has been mentioned - its completely how they are with you....most of the time they are decent and accept they are just doing thier job (one during filming of a clip on the companys bench said he would disappear for 5mins to let us finish! i did wave on cctv to say thanks) others though come up in quite a rude manner and attempt to justify themselves by pointing out how dangerous im being to passers by (despite there often being noone or very few people around), at that point i will question them and what the issue is...its when they talk to you like an idiot who would be reckless around others/property without any reason that i take offence
  12. thanks guys! the TT bars are on their way back and im left feeling pretty chuffed that ive got £50 extra and custom inspireds very pleased, thanks (and sorry for questioning it in the first place)
  13. quality of the pics isnt great but tried to show what i mean....ive had then on top of each other, back to back against a white wall and looked at head on...change the angles to try and get the most rise out of each bar and just cant see the difference? even my not so scientific test of letting both bars hang down and see which was lower...even moving them forward and back they were near enough identical like the last pic kindof shows, distance between the centres of the clamp section, and the centre of the end is minimal - bizarre. sorry to question anyone here! im not trying to be awkward *edit - in terms of measurements, laying them flat on the ground against a straight line(the base of that paper say)...the distance between the base of the clamp section and the centre of the barend is 117mm for both sets of bars
  14. have the inspired risers changed geometry wise btw?! sitting here with an inspired riser and a trialtech TT high rise bar and i swear they are almost identical! unless im looking at something in the wrong way - i cant see 15mm of difference at all?
  15. if anyone ever gets a chance to play with those atomlab pimp bars id be interested to hear...they look good and less sweep may make for a pretty comfortable feel? whos going to take the plunge
  16. haha thanks! im well chuffed when people whos vids i watch see mine cheers on all of this, i'll definately be going for it...have even asked inspired rather sheepishly after that if i could get their pdf for the graphic to have the skye stickers custom made - fingers crossed! there is something nice about an anodized finish...the 'hope team green' being the closest to what i was after, the only time i'll ever have that hope green on the bike so it was a temptation hopefully the next post by me on this bike will be in the pictures section with me being on top of the world with my new dream bike all the best guys
  17. thanks, very helpful to know that as a back up...will keep that in mind *edit - just had it confirmed by inspired - ANY changes made to the appearance immediately voids the warranty, shame about that considering they dont sell the frame or fork separately to replace!...ah well
  18. that was my thought andrew...i was advised that inspired are maybe just covering their backs incase people do something daft in the removal of paint, changing its looks in some way...use of random chemicals that may or may not affect the integrity etc, who knows! as it stands there is one place in the uk that does 'usa' colours (they are surprisingly common over there!) if he can get a small enough order than i can send the frame/forks down south failing that, as you said its going to involve mailing companies across the water, asking them to send 2/3lbs of powder with some instructions to take to the powder coaters here!
  19. sorry, the thread is not for arguing on the quality or durability of powdercoating. IF done properly, there is no doubt it its resistance to knocks compared to other finishes. ive had first hand experience of how tough it is myself if it wasnt suitable for trials, trials companys wouldnt use it for thier frames i am interested however in its potential effect on frames, or if anyone has experience/knows of painters in the uk who will do the sorts of 'fancy' colours im looking for
  20. very nice example simpson thanks the one up here in edinburgh is a similar deal...a little alleyway with a garage behind some random doors, but they did my old rims and bars a trear, and the stuff that comes out looks great the only area id be particular worried about is the rear disk brake mount....with a frame/fork that isnt even replaceable as a single item...you cant help but get a little paranoid! andrew - apparently the skye is a little different in terms of warranty, but hey...if i manage to break one after painting it, maybe a begging/pleading letter to the guys at inspired may help my case?! can imagine they are simialr to hope in terms of service (fingers crossed as im having to ask them for graphic pictures to make stickers from!)
  21. on my setup (90x10 stem with 4cm of stackers, same bar) i found that the best compromise was with them at this angle: tilt the bars so that looking at it side on - the upsweep (the angle from the bend to the bar ends?! - anyway, whatever its called) was inline/parallel with the line of the forks, then tilt it back further ever so slightly...maybe 10degrees or so even without it tilted back further that 10 degrees its a good place to start
  22. bit of a recent worry - removing the paint and redoing it will void the warranty!? has anyone had any experience of powdercoating reducing a frames strength or anything like that have to say, it did worry me a little (even if the chances of a break are very very minimal) :/
  23. i'll definately keep that in mind...ive literally called dozens of places up and down the uk, and none seem to have even heard of powders that arent on the RAL chart, so when i mention fancy candys/translucents they switch off http://www.facebook.com/pages/Lucid-Cycles/213389968692913#!/photo.php?fbid=213397868692123&set=a.213397655358811.57449.213389968692913&type=3&theater have pretty much decided this is the colour im going for - "shocker yellow", where maybe one place in the uk may have access to order the paint and do it for me...crazy but ah well! if it turns out its not possible, a decent paint will be the next option thanks
