  1. Got the box in bits this afternoon. 50:50 about it really. The gearsets and syncros/hubs look really good and the forks are barely worn which is a huge bonus for these boxes. The end bearing on the input shaft has been hot at some stage though and doesn't feel great, and the plastic "windage" ( if you could call it that ) tray that aids distribution of oil around the box has suffered as a result of the fire damage. Recasing it into my old gearbox looks like the best solution. On the hunt for a diff now!
  2. 140 mile round trip later and I have a replacement gearbox. Going to refrain from fitting it immediately, open it up and give it the once over. Maybe even fit an LSD in there if I get my hands on one cheap enough.
  3. They shouldn't be doing the self test routine... they don't normally at least. I think the issue may be with the clocks themselves.
  4. Is it the 1.6 HDi or 1.9 DW8 lump? If it's the HDI it can either be the ECU itself or the clocks de-solder themselves. They're a worst case scenario... Check continuity through both the VSS plug on the loom to the relative terminals at the other end, and that the sensor earth wire is grounding properly too. Other option would be to try another set of clocks to see what result you get if you can. Rules one more option out.
  5. Picking up a gearbox tonight. £150, bargain! Also got a little Citroen C3 for sale if anyone knows someone for a cheap car. 1.4 Turbo Diesel, injector seals done, gearbox and clutch replaced as old one had a whine, 94k miles, serviced and ready to go as of tomorrow once it's been valeted. £600.00
  6. Longer if you can! Can completely transform the way they run all round, for the better. Though if it's already belched a load of smoke out it's probably half way there anyway. Short journeys are the modern diesels worst nightmare. EGRs and DPFs coupled with short trips means nothing gets hot enough to burn the carbon/soot deposits off. In Civic news, im taking the current broken gearbox situation as a chance to alter a few bits and bobs I wasn't too happy on. I spent ages cleaning up my old B16 and it looked the part when it was all together, but never bothered with the K20. So the whole lots coming back out to allow me to clean/paint the block and change a few offending seals and gaskets that are weeping slightly. I've got a new inlet manifold and throttle body I'd like to fit too, which when eventually coupled with a new exhaust manifold and Hondata K Pro ECU should see me reach 230bhp pretty comfortably with a map. Im replacing the adjustable front upper camber arms in favor of polybushed OEM items until I feel I need the adjustability. I am however fitting extended lower ball joints to return the roll centres to somewhere more OEM. The other Civic (the green one) should be recieving its other rear arch next month. When that's painted I'll be making a decision as to whether I keep it and K swap it or sell it. The blue VTI is being scrapped some time this week. I still haven't been to collect the Del Sol.
  7. Strong level of envy Looking forward to seeing/feeling the results once I've fitted it!
  8. This. I despise the 306 in every sense other than how reliable it and how little fuel it goes through! Mechanical diesel ***.
  9. Bagged myself some wheels for the Coupe for the bargain price of £100.00. 1996 DC2 Integra Type R OEM items. LOVE these wheels, spent ages trying to find a set of the reps that were available in 4x100 (Manufactured by Sprint) but to no avail... but now I'm running teg hubs... teg wheels! I'll be having them refurbished back in the OEM white too. Replacement gearbox this weekend fingers crossed.
  10. What was that saying? Buy cheap buy once? No? Twice? Yes. Exhaust manifold is cracked Coming off the road tomorrow anyway so no great problem. Think I'm taking the opportunity to cut down on some cars and shell this into my green hatchback now I know it all works. My Dads just given me his Renault Laguna 1.9DCi so I need to find room for that too
  11. Peugeot reinsured as of Monday. Managed to slash the price in half! Down to £480 for the year as against £900+.. Found a gearbox for the Coupe that I'm collecting on Tuesday night, booked in for a 4 point alignment the Friday after. New insurer has said it's not a problem to add a second car to the policy, so all being well I don't have to worry about everyday use in the Civic if I have the 306 to mince about in day to day. Eyeing up an M Factory rebuild kit for my current gearbox, Carbon lined syncros, ATS 1.5 way LSD and DC5/CRV 4th 5th and 6th gears (closer ratio). Need to source a different brake prop valve as my rear brake effort is pitiful at best, though I'm considering rerouting the lines inside the car, doing away with a factory prop and fitting an adjustable bias valve. Hoping to get a day at Cadwell or Oulton booked mid April!
  12. No it won't change anything at all, I'm just not a fan of leaving anything on a bad note. There was no reason for the bitterness. Edit: when I say bitterness I don't aim it at your post, I mean at my situation with her at the time. Just re-read that and it reads as if I'm lashing out at you, not intended!
  13. I'm only tempted because I've wanted a DC2 for ageesssssssss
  14. Sounds like you ended on good terms, which is something in itself. My one regret surrounding my last relationship is that it ended in quite the opposite way, and in hindsight I wish it hadn't. I don't regret that it ended, it just wasn't meant to be. You seem a decent guy. Keep your self busy and surround yourself with friends, you'll be okay.
  15. A mate of mine has just offered me strong money for my Civic Coupe. Torn between keeping it due to the hours I have in it, or taking the money and finding an Integra instead
  16. Got the CRX finished last night. Such a brilliant little car! Engines running lovely, and with the Koni shocks/springs, adjustable camber arms and some decent tyres it's completely transformed it. Jealous that it isn't mine to enjoy!
  17. Productive day. My mate Tom finally sourced the interior loom we need to make the B16A work in the CRX. Que just under an hours work and the old D16a9 is out (out of picture): And the same time again, B16A fitted: Tomorrow we're taking the dash out to access the old loom that we have to replace with the VTEC loom he's bought. Coming on well, and with a factory weight of around 940kg and 170bhp it should go nicely too.
  18. Day 4 in the Civic. Good fun for a quick spin, shit to drive everyday, but should be good on track. The 306 was genuinely a much nicer place to be in at 7:00am before work, or any time I have to go anywhere for any distance... Looking to change insurers as LV are being collosal dicks about insuring a second car. Will at least allow me to fully "track" prep the Coupe without having to bare it everyday if I have the 306 to use too. Wouldn't be so bad if the engine mounts weren't as hard as they are.. I made it slightly more bareable on Tuesday by fitting a DC2 rear silencer. Near silent driving normally but sounds lovely when you're in that "vtec yo'" mode.
  19. 3rd gear syncro/detent really isnt happy Feels far too "easy" (for want of a better word) and kinda just falls into 3rd gear with no resistance/click like youd expect. Shame as the rest of it has been spot on all evening. Doesnt whine when in 3rd and doesnt pop out, 1st and 5th are okay too. Hoping maybe a set of new syncro's and detents will resolve it. Eyeing up an M-Factory 1.5 way plated LSD to throw in there too while its in bits. Alternatively I might try source a DC5 gearbox with the better ratios and OEM LSD but theyre mega money.
  20. 200bhp and 8600 rpm in a car that weighs less than 1000kg is quite good fun as it turns out. I still stand by my statement that the exhaust is too loud. f**king horrendous but sounds ohhhh so good. *Squiffy number plate has been resolved
  21. What do you mean by allignment? Are you intending on using the ancillaries that are on the replacement or swapping across from old to new? Whenever im replacing a lump I stick the two side by side and swap bits across, usually shows up any differences too.
  22. I've solved my Lambda predicament! After a load of faffing about and trawling endless sites online I finally found a wiring diagram for a UK EP3. Swapped some wires across to different pins on different plugs and I now have two fully functioning Lambda and no engine light! Picked up my bonnet too, bumpers will be ready for Monday so it'll be on the road that afternoon
  23. ...aaaannnnddd it's at a stand still again. Turns out that, while it runs it, the conversion harness is wired for a wide band o2 sensor and not the narrowband sensor my standard ECU is looking for. My option now is either source a DC5 integra ECU and sensor, or spend £800.00 + on a Hondata K Pro ECU that will enable me to disable the o2 sensors. Possible to rewire for narrowband but it's a pain in the arse going by the folk I've asked that are in the know. f**k
  24. More Civic stuff. It turns out airline fittings are the perfect thread size/pitch for a DC2 steering rack lower union.. I'm running no power steering with what was originally a power steering rack so I needed to loop it out to allow the pressure from either side of the piston to be transferred to the opposing side while keeping out the rain/dirt and generally preventing making my steering feel crap. I had the DC2 upper union so that was no problem. Was finishing up re-sealing one of my wheels/tyres, and thought the airline end of the inflated looked very close to that of the rack... it fits. Add a little ATF for lubrication, two jubilees, a length of hose and the jobs done. I plan to source another rack to fully dismantle in order to remove all internal components related to making it a power steering rack for a more perminent solution: i.e. Remove rack piston, diverter valves/unions, pack with grease and rebuild. My bonnet and bumpers should be here tomorrow.. the only remaining pieces left!
