  1. Got to be TRA for all time fav, but really like Rick Koekoek's riding at the moment.
  2. I did a foundation degree in engineering about 4 years ago now then went straight onto a Masters. They won't expect you to know everything about engineering in the interview as that's what the foundation courses are designed to start you off in. I'd say the most important thing in the interview would be to come across as enthusiastic, well mannered + dressed and maybe with some sort of reason why you have an interest in engineering. What university is it at? Best of luck
  3. -Maybe I will! Then I'll put it on my feet and skate around on Paul Bunyan's giant skillet to cook his flapjacks! -That doesn't make any sense! -It doesn't have to. I'm beautiful!
  4. Another multi-linguist!!

Nice! Cranks look like they've got a pretty nice profile. Pedals are pretty sweet as well. I'm considering putting a full bash ring onto my model, although other than that there's not much more I can add - my computer can't take much more and it already takes several hours to render anything I'm tempted to make a street orientated frame, possibly with Inspired like geometry. Then I get the fun of modelling a seat
  6. There's been some topics about the website before. Pretty sure a few people on here use the website for parts. Might be worth searching the forum to have a check.
  7. What's the ERD of the rim? Also is it front or rear?
  8. Pretty huge moves in there! You've definitely got some balls.

Well I got round to doing a few renders...5 hours worth... . Changed the red to green, but used the wrong lighting on the first so the green turned grey Also added a small frame name - 'Weaver' - hard to see though!
  10. Nicely done! 2 whole pawls left intact
  11. If you'd read properly, I'd corrected myself....
  12. Cheers for the help. I'll see about having a look at it...
  13. I think I'd prefer a slightly heavier gearing considering I'm used to a streety set-up. Guess 16:13 it is!
  14. I'm assuming its got horizontal dropouts? If it does, I don't think you can run a 135mm hope as they're designed for vertical, you'd have to go with one of the fixed 135mm rear hubs with snail cams. Might be wrong though. Although, saying that, I've just realised there's built in grub screws that can position the rear hub fine. . Might be OK to run a hope after all.
  15. That's a nice little chunk! Funny enough I took my tensile freewheel apart yesterday and found 3 springs and 1 pawl had completely snapped. If you're not going to be using that anymore and it's the 60 click version I'll buy some of those pawls / springs off you

Yeah, I think I mirrored it 60 times on the rear and 45 on the front

I was thinking maybe a green / polished colour scheme. Or maybe a blue frame with black / silver components...guess I'll have a play. I had to think for a while how to do the tread. Finally figured it though Create the main tyre profile and rotate about a central line Create a larger body offset from the tyre profile by a few millimetres Create a plane/ sketch in the centre of the tyre profile Draw the tread sketch on that plane and extrude to the surface on the larger body (gives it a curved appearance) Either hide or rotate a cut to get rid of the larger body to leave the tread. Bit of a painful process with a slow computer but I don't think it came out too badly. Some how I'd need to perfectly match the chain to the front + rear sprocket and also chainstay length. Or give the chain links a certain amount of tolerance to bend about a bit for fitting.
  18. Does it feel a little too easy to pedal compared with 18:15? I'm used to a street set-up (18:13 on 24") which is much harder to pedal.... I've got 170mm cranks too which is a bit more leverage than the 165mm on my 24".
  19. Hi all, I'll be running a 16t front sprocket set-up soon for a 26" and wanted to know if anyone has any suggestions as to whether either 16:13 or 16:14 set ups are preferred? As the normal setup of 18:15 gives a ratio of 1.2:1 and 16:14 gives 1.14:1 it seems a bit far off compared to 16:13 at 1.23:1. I'd replace the chain regularly every 3 months or so, so chain wear shouldn't be a huge issue. What do you think.

Both treads done, can't be bothered to render right now. Only planning to do the chain now...although last one I did put a lot of strain on my computer, so I don't know if I can really justify doing one. I'll do some maximum quality renders at some point as well when I've got several hours free Anyone got some ideas on a better colour scheme?

Just got round to adding some tread on the rear tyre. It looks a bit square for my liking but my computer was struggling so much I couldn't really add any chamfers or filleting unless it died completely Took 40 minutes to render on a mediocre setting...Not amused

I'd like to do a bit more machining - I've done some path programming for CNC machines on simpler designs and definitely seems like the sort of thing I could get into. I've got a friend work for a pneumatic / hydrolic company at the moment and he's enjoying the design work. I'm starting a PhD at Oxford this September but it's not really the sort of course I get to use any design packages on , at lot of ANSYS and fluid flow stuff I think though. There's about 3 billion Alex Darks on Facebook What profile pic am I looking for?

Very nice, especially that lever! What college course was that!? Looks like my sort of course I love how you got to make some of that stuff, looks sooo much fun. I've had the chance to do a few bits here and there at university but it's at such a low level it's not much at all so I've had to keep myself busy with my own projects. Do you get to use ANSYS or other FEA programs much, or just the Solidworks packages? It'd be awesome to get a CNC machine and some welding gear and churn off some parts!
  24. Cheers for the help! Don't think it's worth buying a brand new axle... I'm just going to have to slap whoever mutilated this pretty hub...
