Goodluck with the snailcams ^ . Yeah, I've just started my PhD so I'm going to be pretty busy for the foreseeable future... . I'd definitely say AutoCAD and SolidWorks are my favourite programs, as well as being the most widely used I'd say. To get it you'll either have to pay for a license from the company or try get a free student version if you're a student...ahh the perks.

I wouldn't say it's a bad first trials bike - that or one of the lower spec Onza's that you can pick up cheap. No point spending a fortune at first - if you stick to it then upgrade and you won't have lost out.

I was meant to be going today but university work took over XD. My brother and mate both ride there (mostly BMX) but are both decent trials riders. Think it's stukeley skatepark they ride most of the time...might be wrong though. I know there's a lot of good stuff around. If you want I can ask them whereabouts it all is?!

I bought my first trials bike off eBay about 7 years ago - complete pile of shite. Koxx levelboss 'apparently' good working order and decent condition. Rear brake mount screws came glued into the frame, knackered maguras, dodgy headset and frame bashed to pieces. First and last time I've ever bought a bike without seeing it first! Took over a month for the guy to actually send it as well!

Only one thing for it - we're going to have to build a trials village. Any donations? £2-3 million should be plenty....

Hi all, Could someone tell me if there's a way to identify alloy from stainless steel? (looking at sprockets only without checking weight, etc. i.e. from pictures) Cheers

I can't see aluminium rotors being used for trials, think they'd get buggered up too quickly for the price. Any of the ally rotors I've seen have been the floating rotors with an aluminium spider and stainless steel braking surface. Most rotors will be pretty light depending on profile - maybe 110g for a 180mm rotor and I've seen some 165mm rotors at about 80g.

Just took a few pictures of it finished now! Just got a BB7 to fit on the front now, and I'm considering a spoke tensioner.

Tartybikes offers a few BB services. They do BB thread chasing which might help clean up the threads, depending on how buggered they are.

That's why I plan on spending some time working towards it I'm moving up in 1 inch increments but cannot move past 8'2" at the moment - I can't seem to find the extra umpf...

Same here 8ft doesn't look too bad when I go for it - although I'm landing pretty hard with anything over 7ft, but 9ft just seems impossible! I think if I work on my pinch gaps I might get it one day though! I'll try get a video if I manage to nail it.

Warm your shoulder muscles up properly before going for any big moves that put a lot of strain on joints / muscles. I've had tendonitis in my shoulder for a bit so I just do a few simple exercises with small dumbbells before I go riding and it's helped loads.

Yeah it has a nasty dent but it hasn't got any filling, although to be honest I'm not going to be using this frame for too long - just until I start getting paid really. It's all finished now, chain's shortened and neatly tensioned. Front brake sorted and cables routed. Fitted an '05 maggie for now but may bleed the Echo TR and fit that if I can be bothered Only had one ride on it and have already gapped the furthest I've ever been able - just over 8ft (which is pretty good for me seeing as I'm used to streety geometry ) Hoping to get to 9' this week. I like the newer Echo 'straight look' but I think the older ones always look nicer. A lot of modern frames seem to completely abandon style for weight and efficiency which don't really inspire me to be honest.

Probably a combination of super tight chain and the 16t front sprocket...I'm just about to start using a similar set-up with 16 / 13 ratio and an Atomz tensioner so I guess I'll see how well it copes!

Yeah, engineering courses are pretty maths based and always comes in handy with dynamics / fluids / stress etc. I love maths and it has definitely helped me through some of the harder parts. I've chosen to stick in academia for now in a medical engineering PhD at Oxford. I thought it's my only chance to get a doctorate so might as well take it if I'm being paid! I'll move into the 'real world' as soon as I've got the qualifications I want

Most foundation degrees aren't specific to type of engineering as far as I know. They are normally labelled broadly as engineering / physics / etc then after you complete it you focus upon a specfic discipline.
