  1. I love this. And I'm "in love" with it too. Perfect colours and not too OTT.
  2. feckin flip that's mad. even on a 26? still, they may well do until i could afford a new wheelset. so options are buy proper wheels or use my rims and buy hubs and get someone to build them. option 2 may be cheaper depending on whether i get second hand wheels for option 1!
  3. like an 18 at the back with what at the front? same situation as HippY, the cost of a freehub is silly, so i'd like a ffw but this gash gears ratio is a cheaper option! won't be so bad with long crank arms though maybe? just naf clearance?
  4. Can you fit ffw to a fixed rear hub? Like the screw on kind? I'd like to run freewheel rear and fixed crank but the free hubs are ridiculous prices.
  5. Cheers for the reply, all the little things a newbie like me needs to know!
  6. cheers nunn - i knew they'd be lighter but just wasn't sure of the use or benefits. i reckon i'll build some up on my mammoths while i find my feet then maybe progress to something else when i learn how to land things properly!
  7. sorry for the hijack - i notice that Laiser is DH tyre and is wire bead. is there a reason that a dh tyre is so good? are DH tyres used in trials more often than not? are kevlar beads too weak?
  8. not a lot of people actually answering the question between drilled and non-drilled. i'm in the same boat - not sure if i can re-use my old Mammoth rims or plump for a 'trials-specific' set. in general terms 200g is a lot of weight on a wheel. if you think of it as a spinning weight too, so it's not just that amount, it's the amount of inertia (? right word ?) it generates as it spins that makes it feel so much heavier, especially under breaking or accelerating. or i could be talking balls; who knows eh? hopefully get an answer soon to help us both out!!
  9. To save another thread, does anyone have any ideas on big mammoth fat rims? I know they're heavy but could I use them as a beginner or is it better to plump for a new set of wheels that are trials specific?
  10. Is it really that bad in the wet? I mean, I know my vees aren't quite the same in the wet, but everyone seems to think its the worst thing for street and trials!
  11. I probably won't ride a grind, I have a problem with purposefully damaging stuff. Just having a bike that I shouldn't care too much about will be hard enough without using a grinder lol
  12. Ok so they're strong then! I like with vees that you can feather the braking - is that still possible with hydraulic stuff? I've only ever ran vees or mech disc brakes.
  13. Cheers, £22 though...may as well buy a magura for that. But I read mixed things about them... How do they compare to a good set of vees and pads?
  14. I thought as much but couldn't find them. Could only see the vee to magura adapters!
  15. Maybe that title doesn't make sense but I'm looking at a frame that has 2 bolts on each seat stay for brake callipers...I believe magura specific? How would I run standard vees on this? I can't find adapters anywhere. Also, I have some wheels made up with big mammoth fat rims...anyone used these for trials? They're heavy but bloody strong. Cheers Oli
  16. True but I can't justify the outlay, plus I like to build them! If I can find a 135mm rear for 26" frame then I could build a bike with the spare parts that I have...bar a few bits anyway.
  17. Right, so I can't afford a whole bike right now, so I reckon I'm gonna build instead. On the lookout for a cheap frame to see what's about. In the meantime this is my daily hack....95 kona painted white with on one carbon rigids. Recently shaved 1.3kg off of the weight by changing a few bits (not wheels).
  18. Fair point. Its all entry level bees etc. Thought it'd be worth a punt but I see your point. Now, how to find £200 for the echo without dipping in the wedding fund or having the missdus find out... Vees, not bees!
  19. http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=271381414947&globalID=EBAY-GB
  20. Just spotted a phase 1.3 in need of a crank and tyres...£80...bargain?
  21. if I have misconstrued your message, and have the wrong end of the stick then i apologise; but to me, that reads pretty harsh. and to be honest, if you treat everyone who asks questions in that way then it's a wonder you have gotten on in life. having said that, IF i have gotten that wrong, and you are just messing about and being harsh in a jokey kind of way then fine, but i will exacerbate my previous statement a little.....i'm looking around, getting info, learning where to get stuff, where to find stuff, what is likely to be best for me etc. i don;t have £200 to spank on a bike right now, or to be honest with you i would have bought it already. i appreciate constructive help and criticism where neccessary, and i will definately look up those things you mention on google this evening. ta I know you arent peddling (har har) the hard sale Tom, and for what it's worth, i understand what people are saying - it looks great and would be the sort of thing i would think i'd end up with. i just dont want to impulse buy, and i don't have the cash anyway. i want to make sure this isn't a fleeting interest in something that would end up being a waste of money. so yeah, info on everything and anything trials related would help me get a handle on what i want and need. ah you see, i actually know what all those things look like ha just didn't know the names.......Trials For Dummies on order...
  22. Alot of that didn't make sense lol gaps/up to fronts/taps/loop out? when i was last doing 'tricks' we had endos and back hops hahah that guide was pretty simple. i like the 24 if i'm honest so i'd assume it's a rider preference thing then? if every bb height and chainstay length changes the feel of the ride then it's got to be what you're used to right? so if i started out on a 20 with a high bb and short stays then thats what i'd be learning on so its what i'm used to? dont get me wrong, i'd look ridiculous on something like that, and i'd definately feel more at home on a more standard geometry, but i have a bike for that already....
  23. Yeah it does look great, but as I said I'm after info before I part with any cash! Can anyone explain why riding a 20/24/26 is different? Why having a low BB is better/worse? Oh, and how do I get my posts approved so that I can use the messenger and post more than 3 posts a day? I responded to the email registration....
  24. To be honest, I'm not really sure about the differences between the different bikes for different things. I'm pretty sure those little montys or on as with the 20s aren't for me, but that's purely based on looks! I'm in Northampton, I'm sure they'll be some kids about here somewhere lol Not a bad idea, would have to get a bit more into the scene and see what's what eh? There's a skate park here but I'd feel like the kids' dad if I rocked up on the Kona haha
