  1. Do it Nicks way, which was the way which I first suggested. Much better.
  2. MSN me iamjonmack@googlemail.com
  3. I like the frequency of his posts!
  4. I often see people bumping threads more than once every 24h but never want to reply cos that just counts as a bump too. I've messaged a few people in the past but dunno how much it helps.

One of the features which impresses me the most is the optional 64GB SSD. I don't know of many other laptops which come with those, at an affordable price (and yes I do think it's affordable, I think it's very well priced for what it is) The only reason I say it's aimed towards journalists and executives as I think even people who don't do much high power stuff, like myself, need more more functionality than one usb port, mono sound and only a Mini DVI port. If say, I decided to make a video with my friends, I wouldn't be able to edit it on my brand new laptop as it doesnt have firewire ports. If I was in my university and it didn't have wireless (this sometimes happens, the system goes down), I wouldn't be able to get online as it has no ethernet port. I just don't feel that it's aimed towards people as a web/email/office laptop, as the spec of it seems very specialist (the feature that stands out to me is the SSD), the average person doesnt need a laptop that portable and small, as the standard MacBook would do them fine as a web/email/office machine.
  7. I think it all boils down to jealousy.
  8. No not at all, I just take them out as soon as I can because I don't use them, and if I do I'd rather do it with keyboard shortcuts than by clicking. I guess I'm just a "power user" some might say.
  9. Never really got into No Trigger. Dunno if you're into hardcore but i'm seeing Blacklisted, Soul Control, and Shipwreck on Monday, and as I happen to have a big house gonna end up putting up one or two of the bands for the night, the joys!

It's not marketed as a MB/MBP replacement/competitor, it's supposed to be an ultra portable, "basic" laptop for journalists on the move.

*cough* Keynote *cough* Well... it doesnt really suck, it's designed that way for a reason. It's not designed to be a use it for everything piss around machine, it's designed for a specific purpose. They wanted a light weight, fast, small, ultra portable computer, and they've designed it. They've stripped out everything they dont need, hence why there is no firewire, only mono speakers, etc. because it's not supposed to be a desktop replacement like a MacBook Pro, it's supposed to be for journalists. One of the points in the welcome video is the backlit keyboard for people while they're at conferences, they're not marketing it to individuals, it's aimed at professionals, the kinda people that work for engadget/wired/etc. I don't think they're targeting that market really. They say PCs are for offices. This is not an "office" computer, its for professionals.
  12. I wanna know the reach on the Mod but no one knows, anyone got any idea how I can find it out without buying one?
  13. I've been listening to Biggie quite a bit recently.

Nah I don't have a problem with him anymore, he's just annoying. I let him get on with things and it's all good. I wasn't having a go, I was just saying that's what it seemed like to me, from reading over the thread all the other new members were like THIS IS A TRIALS FORUM IF YOU WANNA TALK ABOUT MACS THEN GO AWAY. I actually thought the thread could have had some potential but everyone seemed to dismiss it and alas it ended up locked, I guess it's just the way that Charlie conducts himself on the forum. In all honesty I used to be the same, argumentative and arrogant, then I grew up and now I'm... a bit better. He's only 15 so sooner or later he will realise the error of his ways i'm sure. http://www.trials-forum.co.uk/forum/index....howtopic=112002 - That's the thread I'm talking about by the way, second reply was "i thought this is supposed to be a trials forum, pal these posts won't help you to become a full member again but anyway those look nice espcially the i phone (if it is the i phone)" even full members were going in with "Been out months get over it." and "This is a biking forum mate, people come here to discuss trials etc, if i wanted to know the latest apple products then i would go to the apple site." because they didn't actually realise they were new products, which in turn pissed Charlie off, which lead to him replying with things like "Go away. We are allowed to talk about things other than trials." and "Get out of my thread.". Inevitably it got closed.

Has to be said it looks pretty "scary". The size of it makes me think it could break easily, but i'm sure if I held one it would be fine. As has been said if I had 0 laptops and had the money, I'd rather a MBP, but if I was a pro journalist/photographer/designer with an iMac/MP at home and a MBP for working on, and I needed to get something to go to conferences like MacWorld with, i'd have one. As for first person to have one... I dunno, dont think anyone on here really needs that kind of portability or form factor. But to be honest my guess is someone like Carter, cos he can, or Dan Ko cos he's loaded. The batteries are pretty cheap, $129, which is okay, i mean i've had my iPod 4th gen over 3 years now and that thing still gives 6 hours charge, when it was new it only gave 8-10 so I'm pretty happy with it, I'm sure as soon as people have got their hands on them they will start to be dissected anyway, it's always the case. EDIT: Charlie isn't the most subtle of people though, plus this is Chit Chat, people get shitty in NMC because they've only got one forum and most of them are so into trials they don't care about Mac users, it's only in here where there is actually a Mac user base where a topic like this wont get criticism.

http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/15/sizing-...ir-vs-the-rest/ I have two computers anyway, and yeah this is marketed to journalists and people who would usually have 2 computers anyway, it's obvious it's not a replacement machine, it's more for conferences and stuff like that.

Or you could just use one of your other macs/pcs to install software via Remote Disc as long as they're on the same network. Which I imagine they would be. My superdrive hasn't worked for about... 3 or 4 months, but it doesnt bother me as I rarely use it, infact I'm looking into taking it out and doing this with it. Just checked out prices, £50 for the adaptor and less than £100 for the external drive, and I could have a 500gb laptop, or have it setup in a RAID formation.
  18. I was on their myspace yesterday, well nice stuff.
  19. I'll have both those things for sale in the not too distant future. RB lever with 12 spare seals, a spare piston and a spare TPA, and the original TPA is an Ed Potts modded one. If any FULL MEMBERS are interested shoot me a PM. Also if you get braided hosing, you need 3 M6 fittings and 1 M8 fitting, as the Echo cylinders are identical, and both have M6 threads on. I was going to put pretty much that setup on my bike but because my main braided hosing section was M8 on both ends, I couldn't do it. Then I got annoyed and sheared my crossover and it got stuck in one of my old cylinders. Classic.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solid_state_disk Faster startup (as no spin-up is required). Faster random I/O (compared to hard disk drives). Extremely low read and write latency (seek) times, orders of magnitude faster than the best current hard disks drives. Faster boot and application launch time when hard disk seeks are the limiting factor. See Amdahl's law. In some cases, somewhat longer lifetime – Flash storage typically has a data lifetime on the order of 10 years before degradation. If data is periodically refreshed, it can store data indefinitely. Few to no moving parts. For small SSDs up to 64GB, lower power consumption and heat production. For small SSDs up to 64GB, no noise – Lack of moving parts makes the SSD completely silent (although high-end SSDs may include cooling fans). Better mechanical reliability – Lack of moving parts almost eliminates the risk of mechanical failure. High level of ability to endure extreme shock, high altitude, vibration and temperatures[2], which apply to laptops and other mobile devices, or when transported. Relatively deterministic performance– unlike hard disk drives, performance of SSDs is almost constant and deterministic across the entire storage. This is because "Seek time" can be constant, so fragmentation has less impact on performance than on physical drives. For very low-capacity SSDs, lower weight and size. Size and weight per unit storage are still better for traditional hard drives, and microdrives allow up to 20 GB storage in a CompactFlash 42.8×36.4×5 mm (1.7×1.4×.2 in) form factor. Up to 64GB, SSD is lighter than Hard drive for the same size

Thought the whole vid would be Coheed, but it's still good! Nice one.
  22. Chances are you're going to get a bit of a warning though, for being so abusive. I think people should just leave it now, point has been made, may as well just ignore the post and let Charlie calm down.

Well it's going to be around those times. Thats about the time of a Vista bootup, dunno how long that usually takes but my MBP is about 30 seconds, so its probs gonna be sub 10 seconds. And yeah, SSD's are flash memory, solid state means the same thing .
  24. That's why he's happy, because it's winding you up so much. Seriously man, just chill.
