    Autism

I'm a medical student so I know bits from that, but mostly because a few years ago I worked for a summer school for children with Autism and Down Syndrome (And maybe some other conditions - I can't remember). It was really interesting and all the kids were really cool. Also there are certain times when I feel a bit of an affinity for people with mild autism - short attention span but very good memory for details. I just think the mind is really interesting, how people can be so different. Most people are born with it, but sometimes it doesn't get diagnosed until you to school or something. If it's mild then maybe not till much later.
  2. ...especially with the lack of a full circle of metal (I assume there's a gap for the pinch bolts?) - was what I meant to say! Sorry, didn't realise the other bike was gone Still, looks like you landed on your feet

    Autism

There is a fantastic book on the subject called The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night. It's written from the perspective of someone with Asperger's (I think) so as you might imagine it's quite easy reading, there's no real complex language or anything. So it's a kids book as well as a book for adults. Definitely worth reading. People with Autism are very rarely like Rainman at all - severe autism leads to severe learning difficulties. But it's a scale, and at one end is 'normal', at the other end severe autism. I believe Asperger's is somewhere in the middle. Some people who are just pretty normal people, good at maths or something are probably slightly further along the scale (closer to autism) than most. So it all depends on how badly you are affected.

    .~

It'll probably be tendon/ligament if it's in your wrist. Unless you had a really bad break and it set wrong you wouldn't still be having pain now, but I think you'd have noticed (and complained more) if you'd have done that. I reckon go to the doctor and tell him it's no better after 3 months and you want a referral to a doctor/surgeon who specialises in hands. When you go to your GP with a problem like this, they really won't know what's going on and "rest it" is the obvious stock answer. It's stupid that people like you have to resort to acupuncture and other, less tested treatments, rather than seeing a specialist who knows what they're dealing with. The other thing you could do would be to see a physio - there are plenty of people on here who have had good experiences. In summary - go back to your GP and demand a referral. If that doesn't work, go see a physio.

    Fuji S5500

The flash will take longer and longer to recharge as the batteries weaken. My external flash is rubbish and sometimes takes up to a minute (or more, I never timed it) to recharge. Very annoying! Try it again with fresh batteries and it should be fine.
  6. Can't you change the ports that Steam uses to something that will be open (E.g. port 80)?
  7. Well, you wanna be starting the jump when your feet are below you anyway. You shouldn't really be leaning or jumping backwards at all - it's not a wheelie. Just jump straight up and rely on your forwards momentum to get the distance. You can see that in Mark's pictures - the only one where he is leaning off the back of the bike is the last one - and that's because it's a pretty big wall. Momentum will carry him forwards onto the wall properly, but that's probably not something you need to worry about until you get the timing right. No, I wouldn't say it's manual then jump. It's much more fluid than that - you should be throwing your weight up at the same time as pedalling. The two pics below show what I mean. You can see that in the first one, Mark is quite crouched. In the second one he has jumped quite a lot, even though he hasn't finished the pedal rotation completely.
  8. Maybe with black pads or whatever you use Rowan! I don't think you can really use the brake if you've got a powerful grabby setup like most of us do - as soon as you touch the brake the front slams down. Brakeless is definitely the way to go - although I always cover the brake just in case. Having said that, don't listen to me because I suck at manuals...
  9. Normal A4 is quite glossy though, much more than the dry cheap stuff you get in dictionaries?
  10. Rather you than me! I have no idea if the ink going to be bad for you (Although I doubt it'll do very much good) but I'd be more concerned about eating that much paper. Paper is mostly plant stuff, so cellulose (right?) and it won't get broken down. At best, you're going to get horrible constipation. Also it's gonna take an age!
  11. You're probably not jumping enough. You don't need any "torque" or anything from the bike to push you forwards. The purpose of the pedaling is just to bring the front up and to go forwards - To actually get any height you have to jump. If you haven't already, I'd suggest learning proper bunny hops first. It's basically the same technique but you need longer run ups

    New Ipod Nano

Yes, I listen to full albums and it's really annoying when the songs are in the wrong order

    New Ipod Nano

I couldn't really care less about that, I wouldn't use it at all. I'm quite pleased that the new (mansize) iPods have hardly changed at all - it means mine isn't really out of date
  14. Looks lovely Mike. Nice idea for the dropouts too, definitely something I'd love. I'd be concerned that they would be forever coming undone but you say they're fine so good work. Not convinced the dropouts look strong enough though - especially with the P.S. What happened to the Mango Kings you parts whore? P.P.S. I know the f/1.8 is the sex, but more DOF would be good.
  15. Sounds like really dodgy ram. I think the ram in card is probably in that green circle but I'm not sure. Either way it will only be a big problem if it's too hot to touch. I reckon taking it back is definitely the right thing to do if your other graphics card works fine

    New Ipod Nano

I like the new nanos. Basically the same size but stronger, gotta be good for riding? And some colours is better than just black/white.
  17. Do you mean that the printer is connected to another computer? The simple answer is that you need the other computer (The one with the printer attached) to be on. The long answer involves getting a network-attached printer or hub - I wouldn't bother.
  18. It could be that the graphics ram is overheating - because you overclocked it. First thing to do is definitely to roll it back to the lower speed and see if it still happens. It could be that your friend's PC is just a bit cooler and these things don't show up. Those lines aren't going to be the graphics processor overheating though, so don't worry about that. Or it could be something completely unrelated such as hard drive failure causing the computer to load funny images and go slow as you described.
  19. I use a thing called synergy which is a cross platform (like VNC) keyboard and mouse thing. So I control my PC with my laptop (wireless) but don't have the lag that VNC gives you.

    The Bell Law

lol indeed It's stupid - I can't see a bell being of any help to pedestrians at all. Like other people have said, you wouldn't use a bell in an emergency - It's only of help for cyclists who get stuck behind dumb people walking in rows across bike lanes. But then it's surely the cyclist's choice to have one or not... Personally I've never found it a problem. It's just mindless bureaucracy - no doubt thought up by some clown who has never ridden a bike OR walked anywhere. In the real world this isn't a big problem!
  21. The 10D doesn't take EF-S lenses, so you have to buy the more expensive Canon lenses. And they're pretty old now. I wouldn't buy one, anyway. And you won't get a second hand 20D for that money.
  22. Which goes some way to explaining why most computer geeks are fat VNC rocks though, it's pretty simple to set up as long as you turn the damn Windows firewall off.

    All Sorted Now

If that's not enough, press start, click run. Type 'dxdiag' (without quotes)
  24. Which filter? Blimey, 15MP is crazy. Not only huge but also really computer intensive. My computer struggles a bit adding filters and whatever to 8 MP images. I can't wait a year though Alexx
  25. I don't really care about the whole "VW scene", I just think that those polos look nice as they come, and they can be totally ruined by modding them like that. Having said that, it's a good photoshop job, I don't think I'd be able to tell it wasn't real
