  1. bunnyhopping uses the same force on the tyres as backhopping, and im pretty certain your tyres wont be a problem. people used to do this stuff on xc bikes, you'll be fine just takes practise. J
  2. gaps. stick 2 pallets or similar on the floor with a gap you feel comfortable with in between. hop between them. repeat. increase gap. repeat. J
  3. *Unnecessarily!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! EDIT: I know, that wasnt really the best way to show n00bs how to do things, but im quite impressed with widening the posts for everyone else. keep the xtp
  4. not quite. take the original setup of 22:16 and do 22 divded by 16 gives you 1.375 - thats the ratio. 18:12 gives you 1.5 so to get the same feel from a 20t chainring you need to have a 13t cog because 20/13 = 1.538 which is as close as you'll get. Hope this helps. J Just for the record, I (and many many others i think) aim for about 1.1. I just find it easier to flick about, but then again I ride stock so it could be a lot different. I've never spent a lot of time on a mod.
  5. cheers adam, you presumed correctly thanks again, ill probably order them from tarty in the next 20 mins or so! J
  6. that guys work is in-f*cking-credible! how much does that sort of treatment cost for say, a frame? J
  7. Hey all, I'm looking to rebuild both my wheels so I can do a good clean on the old school stuff I have. I want to know the ERD for the old Megamo drilled rims (otherwise known as cheese rims, but i never had a problem with them). I do know how to find it out etc, but I want to keep the wheels built until i have the new spokes, so it would be handy if someone knew what it was. Cheers J
  8. definately would if it wasnt for reading festival coming first. i think you might find a lot of that. J
  9. i personally wouldnt, but the drilled Onza Reggie is 520g, but thats probably because its a front/rear rim.
  10. i just go with the whole "clean it after every section" method. a quick wipeover so you can see the rim again never hurts J
  11. im gonna bring my half a face almost no doubt be good to finally get on my 2nd london ride after about 3 years lol J
  12. at the risk of sounding ever so much like a chav... haha, Jokes J
  13. hell yea it is. i can see that a thread a little more original and requiring some thought is not something that people want to be part of, so feel free to close this. Cheers, J
  14. im loving the replies, but do we know of anyone else who's riding old school frames now? J
  15. i learnt on a frame that was cracked in just the same way as you describe and I think it benefitted me hugely. You always have it in the back of your mind that the frame could give at any moment and that makes you concentrate on being smooth - something which I believe all trials riders need to be. I know that I don't have the natural talent to go as big as the big boys, so I concentrate on making it look effortless. I hope you can see the point and grab the deal. I never even snapped mine, I just got to the point where I wanted to have more confidence in my frame - about 6 months later. Hope this helps. J
  16. haha, me and my mate spoke at length about this after he came up with the idea. we decided against it for many reasons that I can't be arsed to go into, but i really appreciate the thought. cheers. J
  17. the monty definately wasnt a bad frame in its day. i need to get myself to a ride so someone can let me have a quite shot on a longer frame, because I dont know whether to go "new school" or not J
  18. danny holroyd and the rest of the old trialskings group. the toxicity video had me going for a long long while. J
  19. i could probably do some bromley action, its just that there used to be loads of guys riding near me and now there isnt
