I wasn't even paying attention to who it was people were talking about but it was hinted that someone may be fortunate enough to have parents willing to spend a lot of money on them as a gift. It was just my general thoughts on the matter. Also, with regards to your counter arguement to Simps, I don't think we're just talking about cheaper bikes but bikes that are better suited than the more expensive alternative.

I would like to go to Canada for a year, maybe more, when I graduate next year. Would want a proper engineering graduate job though, not a working holiday thing with bar work or whatever... Dunno if there's any organisations that sort that kind of thing out but from what I hear about the demand for graduates in Canada it shouldn't be too hard getting a VISA?

Maybe Daddy could buy them a nice computer/TV/console instead of spending money on a bike that won't last as long as the cheaper alternative?

Personally, given the weight of the frame and, more importantly, the relatively high price I find that a bit disappointing. 12 months would have been reasonable and I think is a fair time to expect this frame to last.

I sometimes warm new grips up to get them on if they're being particularly difficult. Whenever I've used hairspray it's never really worked well, gunna see if I can get hold of some spray mount at work and maybe try some Trialtech foams.

Having tried various different rear rims, I swear by the V!Z 46mm rims. I have no reason to doubt the single wall SL ones will be just as good quality.

The increase in cost would be huge. The weight really wouldn't drop much either.
