When I took those photos Onza had literally just got the frames in the day before. They were the first generation of each design, so judging by previous prototyping stories, could be a few more prototypes to come before Onza are 110% happy with any of the frames. As far as I'm aware there's no plans to release any of those frames just yet. They all need testing for strength, durability and handling etc. So don't expect to be seeing any of the frames released too soon. If we hear anything else that's worth mentioning, we'll let you guys know :ermm:.

Not Necessarily a bad thing mind! Wouldn't fancy doing bunnyhops to manuals etc on a 1100 bike! haha
-
Nope, tis a zero drop (and also zero rise) bb.
-
Most certainly can  Check the picture HERE and you'll see the mech hanger/tensioner that comes with the frame as standard. So gears arent a probelm at all (Y).

Click Here Theres a few listed there. The best one that I defo know where the location is is York Cycleworks. That's just outside the city wall on the road that heads out of the east of the city towards Hull and Beverly (maybe that bit of the wall is 'east gate', who knows! :P). There's another closer in to town which is more likely to sell Crawlers, but I can't for the life of me remember how to get to it! :o Pretty certain it's on the south side of the river though.

As has been said, internal headset it is :P. As for bb; 127.5 for a square taper bb or 128mm if we're talking ISIS. If you need any more help/info, give me a shout :o.

Top spec T-Rex for sure!! Rides absolutely awesomely, and I doubt there's many (if any) stronger frames available! Silly spec for the cash, bit of a bargain to be fair :).

The Control is a bargain for the upgrade cost over the Pure. For an extra £55 you get £30 worth of booster to stiffen up your rear brake and improve its performance. Deeper and chunkier chainstay plats to increase strength and stiffness. 3D CNC dropouts which improve the contact area/angle for welding, theoretically making a stronger rear end. Lower standover height, meaning you can do those Neil Tunnicliffe style sidehops with the arse to the side a bit easier/better. As has been said, the Control looks bloody awesome!! The Control's added bb height gives better ground clearance on obstacles, which for natural makes a big help imo. It also makes the bike gap to front wheel better and give you more confidence on sidehops especially (because everything looks a tiny bit smaller). With the choice of lengths for the Control, you can call it a more 'streety' bike in the 1065 wheelbase version. Or a more 'big move' orientated UCI style bike for the 1085 version. One thing is for sure, you dont feel like you're riding a really long bike on either of them: With the higher bb reducing bb-bars distance, a 1085 feels more like a 1065 of a 'normal' geometry frame. The Pure, at the end of the day, is still a bargain at £320. Damn strong dependable frame. But for me, the choice of sizes, extra CNC'd bits, improved strength, ride characteristics and free booster swings it the Control's way for sure. Dunno if that helped at all or I just ranted. Best thing to do is read people's reviews of the frames, see what sounds like your sorta thing.

Skoda Felicia's might be worth a look? I picked up a V-reg with 43k on the clock for £1350. It's only a 1.3, but I think they do a 1.5 or 1.6. With a bit more miles it'll be around your price for sure  Keep an eye out anyway.

Liking that Mr Ben! Editing was good too, pretty 'different' style. I guess if I was a music/film critic I might say it was 'edgey.' But I'm not sure what that means, so I didnt say that, alright? :( Great riding all round, some rather large moves. And good to see someone sidehopping both ways too, am a fan of that! Lots of smoothness too, very jealousy provoking! haha

Sweet vid. Nice chilled song and editing. Cool rock-riding style, probably least correction hops per minute of vid I've seen in aaaaaages! :P Lets have one on 26" wheels next time please. :(

Just about the craziest video I've ever seen of a trials rider! Some absolutely unbelievable moves going on! Hope the ankle is healing well!! Once again, simply breathtaking vid. Respect :-

Someone on MSN sent me a link to this, so thought I'd share it.... Right click save as

North Wales Indoor Round Two!
Inspired Dave replied to spunkey_monkey_boy's topic in Member Organised Rides
Sounds proper bo to me!! Wonder if there's enough interest would it be worth trying to do a 'deal' with a local b&b whereby a loads of rooms are rented for the necessary night. The place I stayed at definitely wasn't anywhere near full, so I expect they'd be glad of the gaurenteed business and be willing to do some sort of 'deal.' Anyway, 3 days riding, sounds bloody good to me! :P -
Sweet vid Ben! Am liking the way nothing is over complicated, all straight forward, limited correction hops etc. I need to get the fitness to do those repeated big wheel-swaps up slopes! haha, proper time saver!!! Looking forward to vids more often (Y).

We originally ordered a slightly toned down version to directly compare the two frames, but unfortunately the toned down one never materialised. But dont worry, one is on the way! (Y)

Not seen This?

Mk1. So things have started with promising results, but there will definitely be at least a Mk2. Dont want to rush in to things, after all, if we were out to copy an existing frame, we'd have gone for a slightly longer wheelbase and a slightly lower bb height, not tested it and just released it instantly! (Y) Or......gone to the same manufacturer and asked for 50 with a different name laser etched on the tubing (Y).

45mm centre to centre with M5 threads.

Supposedly a lot of companies dont use a proper jig to make prototype frames, well, not a jig like they use on production frames. A jig for production frames would be welded in to place more than likely. However, for a prototype frame they cut all the tubes at the correct angles (so they work out exactly what angle the downtube must be cut at to make the desired head angle when welded to the head tube) and rely on the tubes being pushed together in some way (damn hard) and tacked/welded. Once the angled tubes are pushed together hard they create the angle/length needed. This is sufficient accuracy for a prototype and saves a lot of cash with not having to re-weld jigs for each different frame angle etc you want. As for the head angle looking slack, I think its due to the rear wheel of the bike being lower than the front in the picture. The 'cockpit' is of a normal size - we specified the size of the stem in order to do this.
-
For swaps the same size, I'd say getting the prototype to backwheel is easier than a traditional Rex, which itself is pretty easy. I had a look at one I've been eyeing up on my standard Rex for a while, but it was just that bit too high to get the right body position for me. The proto allows for a better body position on the same wall, however, the current stem and bb position means you dont get much front wheel pressure, so it's a little disconcerting. Hopefully we'll get a play on the bike with a slightly lower stem, then I'm determind to have that wheelswap!!

Cornering stability at anything more than 5mph would be a bit on the dodgy side! haha, so unless you get a VERY slow xc race, it's a fairly fruitless venture! hehe Thanks mate :D. High bb's definitely offer distinct advantages for a lot of moves, but like I have outlined, some disadvantages in other areas. So according to your preference of riding, this setup could be THE future of trials for the not too distant future. But, it could be a step in completely the wrong direction for some riding styles, but as is always said, each to their own :D.

Wow, we really didnt expect such a great reception for this project, but thanks for all your positive words! Testing is still in the early stages obviously, but there are some clear ride characteristics that have become clear very quickly..... We were honestly expecting the bike to feel less stable than a traditional rex when on two wheels. But, we were amazed when we started to ride it, it actually feels impressively stable when trackstanding etc, so that was one opinion we have sorted out! Backwheel control: It's just rediculous. From the first time I built up the frame and got it on the backwheel in the workshop, I actually started laughing at how easy it is to control. You can literally just stand there, not hopping etc, but just balancing effortlessly. Anyone who had a go on the bike will agree I am sure, it's just phenomenal! Gaps to front wheel are also improved. As expected with a high bb, you dont have to get the bike as vertical to stoppie into a gap to front wheel. Obviously we couldn't quantify this feel, but now we've had a bit of a play on it, we can confirm the bike gaps to frontwheel amazingly, imo far far better than anything with a similar wheelbase but traditional zero drop bb. Sidehops, this was a wierd one. We weren't sure what to expect, as there were mixed feelings as to whether to high bb would limit your power and thus ultimate height when sidehopping. Or would the higher bb increase confidence that much you could out-weigh the power application disadvantages? Well, after riding it myself, and seeing others give it a good ride, it's become clear that it sidehops damn well! Much better than expected imo. When you sidehop, you dont seem to put anywhere near as much power in as on other bikes, yet you sidehop just as high!! Ask Mr Ben Lee, it's almost surreal, the bike seems to magnify the amount of effort you put in, and almost sidehop for you! haha. The standover height also helps for tucking the bike on large sidehops. Long wheelbase advantages is one that is just as expected, can bridge better and get front wheel on higher objects than normal, so thats all good :D. Ups to front wheel and then switching to backwheel seem surprisingly easy for such a long bike. This is probably due to the bb-handlebar dimensions. We had a good think about this, and wanted to get the distance fairly similar to that of a Rex, so it didnt feel too cramped or too stretched out. The custom stem has certainly helped this, and given the bike awesome wheelswap capabilites. Gapping flat to flat....This we were expecting to be affected for the worst. As with mods, the higher bb tends to make the bike loop-out when kicking hard as you normally would. However, I have found little difference in actual gap abilities. Once I got use to the way the bike felt I felt I was gapping virtually as well as on my standard Rex, all be it not quite as big when pushing myself. Front taps is something that are yet to be seriously investigated, as it's been predominantly ridden on rocks, where there wasnt the chance for giving it a fair try. Damon had the bike for a week and he seemed to get on with it 'ok', tapping around 44-45" with ease, and landing with much more control than normal. However, the jury is still out as the bike's abilities for front touches still needs to be pushed. The sort of 'loopy' nature I explained when first riding means that a 20-17 gear ratio feels very easy to use. So higher gear ratios is also something we want to have a play with, see if we can get away with a higher gear ratio etc. Over all, I'm amazed how well the bike rides on rocks etc, it's almost like cheating. As one of the sponsored riders said to me yesterday...."It takes the challenge out of rocks, it's all too easy." Going in to production....well, Adam and myself really hope it does. I'm sure with decent levels of interest and good feedback on how it rides would ensure it is released in some form or other. But there's still testing to be done, so we dont want to speculate too much! Sorry for ranting on, but hope it was a moderately informative rant! haha
-
Thanks matey :D. We're not affraid to get stuck in and test out theories etc. After all, whats the point in questioning something if you're not willing to put some work in to get an answer!! Rider designed/influenced trials components for trials riders, that's what we're in to :D.
-
Couldnt be better said, even Mr Short Bike himself Tim Steadman said he liked it! haha, the first long bike he's EVER ridden that he actually liked :D.
