    Avid Bb5?

doesn't anyone know how to use Google anymore? http://www.sram.com/en/avid/discbrakes/index.php look there and you'll see that Janson is 100% right; there's no outboard pad adjustment, but i think you'd probably still hit it if you ran one on the rear. i'm guessing you've seen the price difference between these and the BB7s? i only state that look around at how many people are using BB5s for trials as opposed to BB7s...then you'll answer your own question!
  2. hells yes! Xen everytime
  3. on my old Saracen 2.Six, i had a standard cassette (11-28) and a 22tooth on the front. i found that i could happily run it on the 18tooth for trials and then drop it down to the 11tooth for travelling to-and-from my trials-riding-spot. trials bikes aren't really practical for "getting round places" though - and a 32tooth chainring isn't practical for trialsing on...so you're gonna have to make the compromise somewhere!
  4. NO PROBLEM! this is very easy to resolve mate. 1 - get rid of the front derailleur, cable and shifter 2 - remove the bashguard and 32 chainring 3 - look here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Truvative-Hussefelt-...1QQcmdZViewItem 4 - buy that - it's dirt cheap and the auction even ends tomorrow! if you don't get it, you need to get a 22tooth bashguard, so get looking (that'll take care of the front end of the drivetrain) as for the rear: 5 - look at how other people have their trials derailleur set up (practically horizontal) 6 - take a shitload of links out of your chain, but make sure it's still just long enough to get to your largest rear sprocket. the tension of the derailleur and the shortness of the chain should stop any chain-jump problems that crankset is ideal for trials - i used to have one myself WHAM! BAM! Robert is your mother's brother!
  5. the Hussefelt cranks that are set up for two rings (as opposed to those that have mounts for a granny cog) aren't really going to be suitable for trials, as you can't get a small enough chainring on there. best bet is to go for a Truvativ Hussefelt Trials crankset like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/Truvativ-Hussefelt-How...1QQcmdZViewItem they're always on eBay so you can't miss em. IF however your crankset DOES have the granny ring mounts, then just buy a standard 22tooth chainring and a Hussefelt trials guard post a pic of the crankset if you're not sure - but take a pic of the back of it so we can see what mounts you have
  6. a 185 is ideal for a stock. i've got a 185mm 2006 Roundagon rotor on the front (203mm is a bit overkill for a bike as light as a trials rig!) try eBay...i got both my BB7s from there - the pair for $165
  7. thanks a lot for that Christian! those bars look fantastic! i live in the Lower48, so i'd be ordering them from your distributor in Canada, but i can't seem to find any prices for them in their catalogue - what's the retail on those McSkinny bars? many thanks
  8. dude, do you have a pic of those bars taken from directly in front? the only pics i can find are PlanetXs own pics of 'half the bar' and i'd prefer to see one actually on a bike. many thanks
  9. i was just wondering what bars you guys that ride exclusively 'street/urban' trails use? i've got a pair of Azonic Worldforce bars (2" rise) that i was going to use for my rig, but the angle of upsweep seems a bit much, so i may have to buy alternative bars... here are the bars in question: i like the bars to be 25.4mm thick, quite high (2" rise) and not stupid wide (as i like to throw x-ups into my riding) so i guess i was looking for something like: as Easton was the first name that sprung to mind - and sadly, the most expensive! so before i go looking through millions of websites and bars, do you have any suggestions for high-rise/low upsweep bars? many thanks
  10. nice and simple - i really like it!
  11. "Dirty Tricks..." was filmed in 1997 - Hans Rey was ripping it up years before that too... the Disc-rotor-stuck-to-the-rim idea was also used on the Ruthless trials rig, as shown here: as for what i'd like to see in the next 10years? a, 100+ engagement points on a freewheel and hub (permanant engagement, basically!) b, titanium parts being a lot cheaper c, a radical new and stronger spoke lacing technique on a dishless hub matched up to an indestructable rim and a trials specific rear tyre that weighs less than an XC tyre

    Mbk

it's worth it for THAT alone! suh-weeeeeeeeeeeeeet
  13. it's silver...it's low...it's got green graphics... i'm sure it's nice an' all, but it's not ground-breaking
  14. "...maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon...and for the rest of your life"! i doubt he'll regret taking them off - who'd want to ride a bike with another rider's name on anyways? at least now he's saved all the "is your name Scott then?" dumbass questions!
  15. "what's trials? well, it's like riding a bike...only harder" "no, i won't 'do a stunt' for you..." "gears are for queers" [sarcasm] "yes, your bike is better because it has suspension..." [/sarcasm] "wanna hear my Maguras?"
  16. and if this story doesn't change that, then you've got a problem - sorry last time i looked, tarmac, concrete and the like are skull-cracking material - so why don't/won't you wear a helmet for road rides again?
  17. DO...OR DO NOT...THERE IS NO "TRY" seriously though, how many more of these kind of accidents do we need before people wise up? i'm sick of people saying shit like: "i don't wear my helmet all the time, i don't wear it when i go down the shops" etc here's a fact guys: you are NOT wearing a helmet because you expect to be crashing every few rides. You are wearing it because you expect one bad crash in 6 years. It's all about one crash, but since you don't know when it'll happen, you have to always wear it. (quoted from blushark's FAQ on TrialsOnline.com) and it's as simple as that. if anyone uses the "but i look a twat in a helmet" excuse, then you should sell your bike and sit inside all day, because i don't wanna hear how you were the next kid to get killed doing the sport he loved all because he didn't wear a helmet. UCI and BIU rules state that you HAVE to wear a helmet for competitions. it makes sense to wear one for riding ANYWHERE. i have a basic rule that i don't even swing my leg over my bike without a helmet on - and i stick to that rule because YOU NEVER KNOW when you're gonna have that fatal/near fatal/coma inducing crash. and if your head is too hot in a pisspot, get a more vented helmet, like a Xen or an E2 - there is NO EXCUSE. (and for anyone now saying; "but a Xen costs 125" ask yourself how much your life is worth? how much is your ability to feed yourself worth? if it's less than 125 then you have my sympathy)
  18. awesome video - made me homesick for Porthcawl though (i used to live just outside of Cardiff) great riding, cool tunes, top skills (Mr Shrewsbury needs a helmet though... ) 9/10 - it would have had a 10/10 if the female jogger going past was done in slow-mo! nice one - keep em coming
  19. oh my god!!! LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THAT THING! is that a 1.5" headtube? are they the fatterest forks ever? if it was in a nice dark grey (ala Holroyd's 24Seven) i'd sell a kidney - or 2 - for that!
  20. once again!!!!!!!! 1 - take original price of bike/total of parts 2 - half it 3 - take off £25 for every year old it is 4 - THAT is your 2nd hand price (example: a £1000 frame that is 4years old is worth (£1000 halved = £500 minus £100 (£25 per year x 4) £400)) that's a realistic estimate - sucks, i know, but look on eBay!!! 2nd hand bikes hide a lot of history (abuse etc) but don't let that fool you - if it's second hand, don't expect ANYTHING like top-dollar for it (unless it's a one-off, uber custom or rarity)
  21. your mate - he's too "cool" to wear a helmet huh? ah well...

    Boby Vid 5

GREAT video! i'm sure that people will post on here saying how it was 'average' and that it 'didn't have enough big moves' or that 'they could do that with both eyes closed' but that's bullshit - at the end of the day you've produced a nicely shot vid, and your riding style is more than comparable to Ryan Leech (i'm sure i saw a few Leech-isms in there - and that's meant to be a compliment!) well done mate - one of the better vids i've seen on here
  24. newest pics of the latest abortion from Koxx... http://www.koxx.fr/popup.php?lg=fr_FR&...DB44c072d7e2924 the colours have changed and we now have integrated rear HS33 mounts (ala Monty) still makes me wanna puke...
  25. damn! that was some funny shit! "that izz zeee accuracy prak-teeeece" nice repeat section at the end too! (didn't that carton go off like a good un?) glad to see someone has a sense of humour
