  1. i've never undestood why you need a big handle atatched to the camera when you could just hold the camera? does it cause less shake or something?
  2. Some really interesting discussion here, didn't think i'd go out and then come back home to discover this much of a debate. I've decided that my contribution is going to be a sort of guide to think about when filming a video, taken from the points made in this topic. The Idea 1.Think about the kind of theme your video is going to have. 2.Take inspiration from any kind of film, doesn't have to be a trials video; look at movies or music videos. 3.Sit at home in bed, think about places you ride and lines you could film, how you're going to shoot them and make it look good. Shots - Used questions as there is no real right answer to them 1.Angle - Wheres going to show the line best? Most interestingly? Most origionally? 2.Composition - Whats in the shot and where? and how will it effect it's quality? 3.Distance - How far away from the rider and what effect will it have from this distance? 4.Focus - Try and make the shot crisp as possible, depending on the quality of the camera being used obviously. 5.Stability - Everybody hates a shakey camera, makes your shots smooth and STILL! 5.Movement - How could this improve the creativity of the shot? A slow zoom? A shot following the rider along? A panning shot? 6.Most importantly, watch your shot back, if it's not how you imagined, go back, perhaps change some of the above factors and try again. Lighting 1.Think about the sun's possition, and how it will affect the lighting of the shot. 2.If you absoloutley HAVE to shoot at night, create your own light source, it could actually create some nice effects in the dark. Sound 1.Preferably get your mates to shut up a bit, you don't want your video ruined by their voices. 2.The song, possibly the hardest part, but link it to the kind of theme and feel you wanted your video to have in the beginning. Editing 1.TAKE YOUR TIME - editing things like music videos professionally can take up to a week of 10 hour days, so don't rush it. 2.Don't over do it - too much flashing, dodgey transitions and effects will ruin in and make it look extremely amateur. 3.If you've taken good enough footage, usually all it needs it to be simply put together and the shots will speak for themsleves. 4.Consider sound editing, if theres an awful honking brake, maybe turn down the clip's sound a little, and balance it out with the music. 5.Nice soft fades usually work best between clips, but even these can become repetetive. If theres anything you disagree with or think i've missed please point it out.
  3. hah yeah i realised that contradiction after reading it and edited, but you read my post too god damn quick! in fact i think it's still a contradiction now its edited?
  4. Nowadays trials is growing more rapidly than ever and so are the amount of companies, however pretty much all (let me know if theres any exceptions) leave the the making of trials videos to their own riders. This quite often results in videos, which have been poorly shot, using unimaginative angles, movement and ideas, because the people making them are experts in riding, not media production. Seeing as an internet trials video is a company's most important advertising tool, i don't see why they don't invest in a professionally made video, the results would be so much better. Heres an example from the bmx world of the kind of thing i'm talking about... http://www.vimeo.com/810647 (this may have been made by a rider for free, i dont know, but imagine a trials video made that well) I mean obviously they are difficulties in this idea, such as Deng being based in china, and many of his riders in England, but you get my idea. Theres no need to shout at me and tell me i'm wrong, because some of my points probably are wrong, but it's just something i was thinking about so give your opinion kids. thanks
  5. haha exactly. People don't choose to ride TGS because they enjoy it more, infact i imagine they actually quite like natural and more varied styles of riding. What's going through their heads is 'well... at the moment i'm rather rubbish, so i'll spend my time repeating sidehop after sidehop, gap after gap until i can do them BIG! so then everybody on trials-forum will think im ace! and i'll get a sponsorship!' however this is not the case...
  6. great video. only thing missing was good quality filming really.
  7. yeah but the problem is, you need to like twist the spring around so that the insert fits into the correct part of the mech, and evertime i do this ity just bends the spring and wont just pop in. if that makes any sense to anyone?
  8. This is what i'm left with and i'm stuck. Is there a trick to putting them back together or something!? because i just can't do it.
  9. 24in looks brilliant, that bike looks a little cluttered mind, could do to be simpler then it would be gorgeous. can't wait til these frames come out.
  10. winter? is it from a while ago?
  11. i'm just saying it's quite likely that at least once somebody else has thought you were a 'dickhead' on the road. we all make mistakes.. but anyway, the driving test get's increasingly harder all the time, 20 odd years ago it was nothing like as strict as it is today.
  12. i don't think it's too hard exactly but it's really annoying, you can fail for ridiculous things. i've failed my test twice now and it's getting expensive, the most annoying part is im a safe and sensible driver whereas many of my friends are idiots in a car. i could rant about how annoying they are for hours, but i want to hear some opinions from people in my position who have failed or passed recently? rather than the arrogant views of older people, who are the best drivers in the world by the sounds of it.
  13. surely 'james_selectbikes' needs to be added to this list? another amazing classic! somebody upload it!
  14. it aint even a chain on that last clip and the photo is it!? its a bloody piece of string! jeeeeesus
  15. I decided to replace my previous statement with a very informative video which can relate to this topic.
  16. Jandama has clearly gotten over this now so no need to keep going on at him and asking him questions and for pictures of rims. Nobody is ever going to win this argument by what i've read so as the good old saying goes lets agree to disagree.
  17. enjoyed that man. pleanty of varied riding in there, keep it up!
