If you can, get a disc with a very fine compound if you know what i mean, you want the smallest grit particles in it possible. Also, put the grinder up to full speed, the faster the better, and then just barley touch the grinder to the rim. Id try cleaning the rim up and the pads first of all though.

Your deore is probobly 9 speed so I think youll need either a 9 speed chain or a single speed tensioner.
