  1. When it comes down to decent digital SLR's there are really only two options, like Canon or Nikon. Having played with both extensively, they are both much of a muchness. There are things with both brands that aren't great, its more down to the lenses i think. With both Canon and Nikon there is a massive back catologue of lenses available which will work on digital bodies. Also you can pretty much guarantee that there will always be some around, as these lense systems that you are buying into are about the biggest there are. I think if your making a decision on which one to go for, look at the type of lenses you want. If you have a friend who has a Canon, it might be worth getting a Canon to borrow his/her lenses. With regards to menus, they both have there little annoyances but once you have used it for a while I'm sure you'll be able to get along with it. And i suppose price pays a big part. If you can get a recently replaced model at a knock down price (look at Canon 30d's, being replaced by the 40d) then your laughing! For the record, I have a Canon, no complaints. PS. If you watch the football, there must be a reason why all the lenses around the field are white (Canon L series Lenses)!!
  2. The old Avid Arch rivals used to rattle alot where the arch joins the brake. I know they may have sealed bearings but at the end of the day you want the stiffest arms possible. For how cheap they are on CRC an SD7 is pretty good (£16.99). Or the SL's are lighter by 2 grams than an ultimate at £30 and then there is also the SD Ti's that only cost £24.99. Personally an SD7 will do you fine. PS, I run an ultimate on the rear (lever and arms) with a linear slic cable and it is spot on. Much nicer than a magura with plenty of hold with plaz crv pads. The best thing is the spring tension can be set real low and cuts down on arm pump loads. Oh and i run it on an 06 Ashton without a booster and find there is minimal flex.
  3. All you people with 8600's should think about your cards if you want to run it. An 8800 offers much more performance and isn't too pricey as far as gfx cards go. A lot of the ATI x1950 models will run games faster than the 8600's, they are just a little too cut down. 2 GB of ram is all that is needed to run it in XP, any more and you'll experience stability issues (XP suffers). And make sure if running in dual channel mode that your memory timings are the same (that the sticks of ram are a matched pair). Processor, most dual cores should handle it. I changed from an AMD 3500 to my dual core 3800 and there was a notable difference. (if you have a dual core processor from AMD make sure that you have the dual core optimiser installed, http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/Techni...71_9706,00.html ) To put it in perspective, my pc (Athlon 64 x2 3800, 2 gb ram, ATI X1900 XTX runs it perfectly well at 1440x900 with high settings (34fps steady). Also runs UT3 and COD4(COD4 on full settings). Will be changing to a quad core and dx10 soon though so may advertise my old pc on here if there were any interest?! Tom

  10. I wouldn't ride like that, the cogs on the back have rampings to aid in shifting. I tried a setup like that and under extreme pressures your chain may jam up. And your chain WILL stretch, meaning it will come slack. Some of the bodges people have made in the home made tensioners part are really good and easy to make.I'd just put like 1 or 2 links in your chain and use the mech. That will give you perfect tension and should be hassle free. Tom

  12. Don't bother going out and buying two graphics cards. Your much better off getting one really good one. I have a X1900XTX 512mb card and that is pretty good at running anything you throw at it. The best option for a cheap upgrade, is an ATI X1950 Pro, or something along those lines. After that, get another gb of ram. Ram makes a lot of difference. Only downside to buying new ram (you will need DDR400) is that the ram will not be usable in your next machine. I'd stick it out with computer you have, buy a fairly decent graphics card, then maybe when that setup really starts to struggle, look at a C2D setup.
  13. Alloy bolts are fine as long as your not a 'tard and put them in high stress points, ie bar clamps, brake bolts.use them for your levers and top cap, front wheel (if it takes bolts bolts). Then ti every where else. Will save a lot of weight but is expensive.
  14. I got a mavic 24, if you can get them they are mint!slightly wider than a rhyno lite, pretty light, eyeletted.Just impossible to get hold of!!
  15. think someone organised a match a while back. i'm in a clan and we're currently setting up a server, maybe we should organise a trials match. if anyones up for playing, add me on xfire (search for iiad[- Nosferatu) or on steam friends tompeach01 anyone playing should add something at the end of their name at the end so we can identify each other! any ideas appreciated, maybe like "-tf-"
  16. Go into the bios of the motherboard and make sure it has "usb mouse enabled" or something along those lines. A lot of them have this as an option.
  17. Anyone got a link to these echo tensioners?
  18. How come the bb's are out of production?? Thought they were a good idea??!!
  19. Those BMX ones are mostly so you don't grind through the heads of your spokes. The deore one doesn't look like it would do that, but then again doubt you'll be doing grinds on it. Spose its useful if you bang your hubs a lot... I had one in a back wheel, was fine for riding around on but never used it for trials. I'm sure it'll be fine.
  20. what he said, anything else just looks gash. Black rims, black spokes, silver or black hubs.
  21. I did mine with all the heads facing out.reason being if you bang that part of the hub on something it will be harder to snap spokes. influenced by bmxers who have those special hubs so you can't snap spokes when doing grinds. That was the only reason for doing it that way. i kinda guess it put the hub under less stress as well due to not pulling ove the top of the flange. but thats just me guessing
  22. says he's looking at the ss ones, thats for a geared one
  23. I've got one and its fine. Haven't run gears on a trials bike for ages and figured i'd go for the singlespeed. Bought mine in america and had too good a deal to miss out on. Otherwise get a pro 2.Little bit heavier but kings prob aren't worth the extra you'd pay over here. And obviously get the right mount of holes for the rim you'll be running on it. The ONLY makes of hub to run on a trials bike King,Hope or Profile
