You've probably got a few too many processes going man.

For me, I've recently formatted my drive, and re-installed windows. Avast Anti Virus and Windows Firewall for the win!

BUT, Before you do what I did ;) Try and lose a few of those processes.

Just run your antivirus software, given the symptoms you've just described it sounds like you've got the same problem my housemate did. 300 odd virus's... or viri (:P)

It actually wouldn't suprise me if you didn't have any antivirus/fireewall at all, so have a lok at typing in AVAST or AVG FREE into google and downloading their antivirus software. Then type COMODO or ZONEALARM into google and use one of those for your firewall.

What he said, dont download porn off of dodgey sites or just generally go on dodgey sites and you should be fine

a firewall monitors inbound/outbound traffic and either allows or prevents packets of information from getting into your network, therefore preventing crap from getting in basically.

you need to get rid of some of ur process's id of thought ? I try to keep it under 20 if i can

Windows doesn't slow down just because it has a high number of running processes, it depends what the actual processes are. XP can happily run over 200 processes if they're only light-medium on the system resources, but get 200 instances of photoshop being up and you'll notice a slowdown.

I'd also be willing to bet that several of the processes will be of a viral nature that should be removed once the computers been scanned.

i have no mates like that lol. there all dumb f**ks to be honest

What was that phrase, it takes one.... can't think of it

aint you online chris and will this anti viras thing sort my comp out

It might not be able to sort every problem with it, but yeah it'll get most of them. I'm willing to bet you've got around 100-170 virus's on it.

I'm on my mums laptop so no, not on msn right now.

It would also be worth running Ad-aware or/and SpyBot (both free) might get rid of some of the crap etc that could be causing the pop ups and slowness...

Also run the Windows Disc Cleanup:

All Programs -> Accesories -> System Tools -> Disc Cleanup

Tick all the boxes and hit ok, and let it do its stuff!!

Yep, ad popups will be from Spyware and AVG probably won't pick them up. Spybot S&D will though, definitely do this.

300 odd virus's... or viri (:P)
