sayshell Posted May 15, 2009 Report Share Posted May 15, 2009 (edited) I have been previously using a trialtech sport rear hub with a 16t acs claw, I just upgraded to a profile hub but the profile hub sucks. Is my hub defective or does the hub just suck? I have the one that has a casstte lockring and splined cogs (the one tarty sells) The engagment slips 3 times as much as the acs claw, and the hub berings are horrible. The wheel can't spin for more than 15 seconds which is complete crap. My triltech hub spins 2-3 minutes. Manuels are like my favourite trick and I like to be able to manuel more 10 seconds before I come to a dead stop. Are they all this bad or just mine? I used to own an echo freehub and it was better than this. Like 99% of a hub is enagament and berings. When I but a expensive hub i pretty much am paying only for those things. Do the berings stop sucking after a while?Weird, I replaced the bearings in mine as it was 2nd hand and a bit rough, if its new then I would send it back to tarty. In the BMX world where they come from, this is well known.I used to have a Profile and it skipped occasionally, I thought nothing of it really, because I believed it to be part of the bedding in process. Maybe not though.Go and get the bearings replaced, especially if the current bearings are the blue-rubber-sealed standard Taiwan bearings. Depending on the store, if you ask them nicely they'll replace the bearings free of charge with upgraded black-rubber-sealed Japanese bearings with a shim to reinforce stiffness in the overall internal structure to prevent any play/wobble.Furthermore, go and clean the driver and engagement ring properly and lube it up lightly with some wet teflon lube like Finish Line XC.If problems persist, let us know. What you need to do is take the driver out, clean it all up and take all the grease out, then use Finishline/bikehut wet sythetic oil on just the ratchet, and spring/pawls.The bearing's won't spin freely at first, as they're brand new. I'll be honest i did have one problem with the lockring, suppose that could be down to my lack of maintenance. But the hub it's self was perfect. The only reason i don't have one now i becuase i run rear disc. I don't ever seem to remember the thing skipping, and the bike rolled so much better than a front freewheel.Something can't be quite right with yours, phone tartybikes and ask them. Compared to other hubs and designs, the Profile is a fair bit more expensive and less reliable, whilst newer hubs are up to 100g or more lighter as well as being stronger, cheaper, and with higher quality. Dave Anscombe Posted May 15, 2009 Report Share Posted May 15, 2009 My first profile hub was a diamond....only ever skiped 2 3 times....had that for about 2/3 years now my mate has it.....no problems got a new one not so long ago.......hated it at first skiped lots kept going quiet then loud.....took it appart cleaned it out used finishline lube...not a problem ever since......with one crank turn my hub spins for a good 5 mins easily yours needs a good few miles for it to run in ma friend be patient Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
