Inspired Gear Ratios

as the topic and title suggests im curious....anyone tried it?

ratio works out as 1.375 which is inbetween what 23:17 and 18:13 would feel like in theory...ive just not tried those before for trials as ive only ever ridden 18:14

would like to know if its possible on the fourplay (old one) with chain lengths etc, and if so...how the harder ratios feel for trials type moves, benefits/drawbacks etc

thanks :)

thanks for the replies guys :) glad i dont have to worry about getting halflinks and all that to get it to run well (with a tensioner)

Run 23/17 with kmc and u don't have to run a tensioner! Plus feels perfect

can i see a pic if you have one? how does it handle the stretch? i go through enough chains as it is...and id rather not invest in a 23t if i already have a 22t... ;)

I already used 18:13, 22:17 and 22:16. If you ride the Inspired Mk.I due to the bigger WB you can ride trials with 18:13/22:16 alright but if you got the Mk.2 a lighter gear like 22:17 will be the best since you have less leverage from the bike you can get extra impulse from you're cranks. I started riding the Mk.2 with the stock 22:16 changed to 22:17 for 2 months and yesterday tried out the 22:16 again and I must say I'm going back to 22:17. It will seem a bit light but is far better for gaps, pedal to front and sides, specially running 65psi on both tires.

mine is the model just before the '11

i get what youre saying about gaps...at the mo though 18:14 (similar to 22:17) feels too easy? part of me thought a higher gear would mean i could gap and do static stuff further? is it as simple as if your legs are strong enough then yes?

Weird, I found the exact opposite... Currently running 23:16 on mine. Downsizing to 22:15 soon though.

It's what I felt. With higher gear you have to go faster and get further distance from the object in order to get the proper crank timing. Pedal ups to front require pulling up the front wheel near the object as possible and when you do this with a high gear when you do the first stoke to pull it up, the second stroke to nose dive into the object and this is when you get your feet in a odd position.

I just found it was a case of where in the stroke I put the power down. I've tried everything from 23:18 to 23:15, and the only difference was literally just how I had to put the pedal pressure on. I didn't find a problem with getting my feet in the 'wrong' place or anything, at least not that I noticed...

What do you think is would be better for general trials/street use on a fourplay? 22:16 or 23:16? Here is a 22t screw on cog that has the same threads as a trialtech screw on, so it should work with most cranks.

Depends if you are riding brakes or not, 23-16 is good for brakeless as your not really doing any gapsand you get good speed for things. 22-16 is proberly better alround, I running 23-16 just now with brakes which I'm not too sure on seems a wee bit hard, will go back to 18t in time.
