TV question - HDMI input

Bought a second hand samsung tv last night and the bloke stated in the ad that the hdmi input is faulty.

Does anyone know of a way to get it going again? Basically it doesn't seem to recognise that my xbox is connected, as it wont allow me to even go onto hdmi.

In settings this is the closest I can get to the hdmi

The model number is le40r74bd - http://www.electronicworldtv.co.uk/40-samsung-le40r74bd-hd-ready-digital-freeview-lcd-tv-le40r74bd

Any pointers would be appreciated, willing to take the thing apart if needs be.

Just did that process cheers.

Made no difference though.

Worst comes to the worst you could get a HDMI to component cable and use that instead as it gives out true HD signal I think?

Oh really? I'll have a google now

what is ext 1 and 2?

You dont have have in just let you know

it seems like the inputs are locked...

check the input settings at settings

Not entirely sure what you're saying here.

When I plug the standard scart lead in from the xbox, that appears as ext 1.

Is not the TV in an analogue only mode?

it is interesting that all the digi ( and some anal) inputs are blocked....

They're not blocked, they're just not active because they don't have anything plugged into them.

I couldn't tell you, I really don't know a lot about electronics.

I can't find input settings anywhere.

X box output settings?

What should I look for?

In the past I have always just connected the hdmi with no issues.

Have you tried a different HDMI cable? (after you've cleaned the port)

Have tried 2 cables now, and given both the port on the xbox and the tv a clean.

The bloke did say the HDMI doesn't work, but he hardly looked like a wizz kid either.

Seems to me that the hdmi port is knackered completely.

Seems that way. I'd be surprised if that cable worked either. Local TV repair man might be able to sort it, but to be honest it's probably just worth moving it straight on again and then hoping to find something as cheap with a working HDMI port.

This is my thoughts. Should be able to get my money back.

How come if it's just the HDMI port that's f**ked?

Because fixing it will probably cost more than the difference between selling this one on and getting one that works.
