Ashton Forks Brake Bosses....problem

Ok I have come across a problem in building up my bike.

On the ashton forks, with the dual boss part for 24/26 inch forks, when you run them for 24 with the studs on the lower brackets, the brake caliper cannot go all the way on without hitting the top one.

There is no way I am changing forks (having just had them professionally sprayed) or taking a grinder to the top mounts, so I was wondering if anyone has any solutions.... I also can't run a disc as I don't have a disc hub.

Having a quick thought, this would fix it (quick artists impression) but I've neither the materials or tools to make it...

It would need to be 1.3-1.5cm deep to enable the calipers to clear the forks...

Any help or suggestions appreciated.

Hmmm, Ashton doesn't seem to be too hot at making forks does he? Anyway, you need 1-2mm more clearance, right? Can you just use a simple washer under the brake? If it's not LX/XT/XTR brake, then I don't think you NEED the little stud to be in the little hole.

by the looks of things your running a V.

you could do that or get a magura washer, and cut a little slit into it witha  hacksaw for the spring to sit in.

that will bring it up 3mm and keep the tension on the spring.

The slit in LX/XT/XTR vees only holds the little pin that keeps the "parallel push" system in line. But that's certainly not a bad idea, although it might be a bit fiddly to set up (You'd almost need to "glue" the washer onto the forks, to hold it in the right position)

It's not just about not clearing. Its fookin miles off. It needs to come out about 10mm to clear (just measured it)

My friend has this exact problem, he found some realy old gay v-brake (which although is decrepid and ugly, works really well!) that has a strange shape and spacing, and it worked, but yeah it is really shit (N)

I have something at home that would fix that perfectly...

like exactly as you have drawn.

I had a pair of the mission v brake adapters, but they were far too long, so i cut them in half. Making them about the size you want. Youd have to drill a deeper hole in one of the spring holes, so you can put a post in it to hold it in place.

Im at uni now, so cant really get them to you.. Although if you are interested in them i might be able to get my brother to find them, if not im home in 2 weeks...

Theyre also available from bikedock, so you could just buy some from there and modify them.

I would be eternally greatful if you could send me those. They look as though I could definately sort the problem with a bit of handy work.

I have used some mission vee adaptors and my brake was horrible, wasnt even suitable for the front. The bosses that go in only have a thread the same size as a four bolt anyway. Im assuming the ashtons mounts are the same as any canti mount?

Your best solution wouls be to go for a sd7, ultimate etc...

IE: hack the useless bits of with the biggest angle grinder or saw you can find!!!!!

That what I was gonna say. Or is it fouling the actual fork legs. I'm having trouble visualising it...
