Yeh thats what worried me, the fact that it could grow all deformed. Did you ride your bike after your cast was off? Cos i have been and with cast on a little, although it was hurting, just couldn't help it, although i think it's probably damaged the growth thingy more so i will have a wierd hand  And yes mine still hurst like helll, does it really take a year for it to heal?!

well thats what the doctor said and i thought yea what ever do you really know what your on about and it turns out he did, its hurt me with most things after i got the cast of, then as time goes on it started to get better i could not twist my wrist all the way round until about a month ago, but it does not really effect riding that much, apart from there will be a few times one you make a sharp pull are twist, and you get some pain.

But also the doctor told me that the wrist is twisted by a joint in the elbow and then started explaining some technical stuff and then it was like

Yeah... the thing i can't believe is how bad it broke from such a simple thing... i was doing feet trials at youth club, sidehopping onto a stage and 12 thin blue mats, top mat slipped and i unfortunately put my wrist out behind me then the arm just bent like the wrist would, just further up... went to hospital and thought it would be a case of they give me pain killer and put wirst back in place then plaster it, but then the doctor said, we have some bad news  He explained how it broke through the growth plate, and that i might have to have screws etc in, at that point i nearly layed a turd! Anyways after i had my cast on for the 5 week period, i got it off and my arm was like all ewww and thin  then realised i could only move it forward a little and not back :o After waiting (again) i went through to this guy and he said well be carefull, no bikes etc for at least 3 month, didn't hear that bit B) then he explained i have to do the physio myself...

I've also broke that wrist before, so doesn't help matters. Hopefully will get better soon, been on bike loads, although it hurts i am positive it's making it stronger.

Thanks, Josh.

Well for my age they say I shouldn't do any weights but i tend to do as often as i can as I'm lucky enough to have a home gym , I did alot of other things when i was younger though such as gymnastics and tai boxing which tends to help all around and now I mainly cycle. (road bikes)

Ps. I hate the new spell checker ...

hi i'm a fitness instructor and work in a gym. the thing about weights training is theres different ways to do it, endurance, explosive and strength building, and body building. to replicate standard trials moves is quite tricky, and if you train hard you shouldn't be able to train for atleast 2-3 days after which means you lose out on precious riding time. by all means weight train but remember you cant beat just getting out on your bike and riding.

p.s nutrition is important in weight training to get a benefit and plyometrics doesn't really apply to much, unless your a high jumper or basketball player (still good to try though)

Well im applying free weights training as opposed to the gym, because you can mimic specific body movements used only on trials riding. plus you have freedom to experiment with different exercise techniques in developing more power to your trials muscles. for example, when im doing squats, or frog jumps with free weights, i position my feet/stance in my favored pedal stance position (left foot back, right foot forward pedal stance). nowadays, i increase the exercise challenge by using a pair of pedals and placing them on the floor in my favored pedal stance position, then imagine myself eyeing up a wall to sidehop whilst doing the squat movements. this usual technique, focuses the specific leg, hip, waist, and ab muscle groups to work harder and coordinate better, esspecially with the extra bar/weights on my shoulders. another method i tried was to duct tape my barbell to my bike handlebars, put a few weights on it and go out riding practicing backhops, pedalkicks, and manuals...i do this on my own at night of course. id do this for 30mins, rip the barbell/weights off, and try the same moves again. the bike and moves feel lightweight. A more convenient training tool/device i also use during private ride sessions is a POWERBREATHE (www.powerbreathe.com) or the latest POWERLUNG (www.powerlung.com). both devices strengthen your lungs to work harder during riding. feel the results within 3-5 days of use. spending £50 or £70 for a piece of plastic is a huge waste of money, but the results to your riding power within days is HUGE! Ps, Ryan Leech does power yoga. Bruce Lee used free weights to develop his speed and power to such extreme levels that he could high jump his bodyweight up 9ft, and could hold 170lb barbell weight with his arms out straight in front of his chest, elbows lock, and back straight. insane power for a small man whom weighed 165lb. imagine that power on a trials bike....

not debating your ability/knowledge.but trials is generally about explosive strength, yea endurance comes intowards the end of the ride. but mainly the area everyone wants to improve on is height of taps and hops, and distance of gaps, which other than technique, is all down to explosive power.

as for the training thing though, on a similar level, if your training on your bike to failiure, you shouldnt be able to train properly for a good couple of days.although i think now most of this dont train for 48 hours is a load of bullcrap, did high frequency training for the 3 weeks building up to christmas, and can safely say, its been hugely beneficial when compared to training 3 times a week. good diet, supply of protein and carbs, and your fine. I also think a lot of this stipulation about not training 2 days on the trot, comes from the fact it hurts like hell the first few days, so people think its no good, and go back to there old routine, rather than letting your body adapt. remember the first few times i went to the gym, only training twice a week, and my body was pooped the 2 days after, but after a couple of weeks, your body adapts and doesnt hurt as much the next day.

thats valid, but all i'm saying is plyometrics is all well and good but its a form of increasing flexibility and strength to muscles from a non-isolated form. in theory on a bike your isolated to a certain degree. but whatever you do just have fun, because lifes too short. i agree about free weights and mimicking trials movements but thats pretty specialist stuff, and these exercises need to be done under controlled measures. the exercises you mentioned are similar to my own trials training techniques with free-weights. if you've got the knowledge try these things, if you don't get professional help before trying these things, and talk to your local gym/instructors/pt's

As it says does anybody lift as well as ride, or any type of other excercise stuff and in your guys opinion is alright to lift for mass and ride (nut not stupidly huge).

hey yes i do i think it helps beacause you find it easyer to ride insted of straining and helps you to pull up your front wheel

I do a spinning class every thursday! and i belive that has improved my stamina a lot, as i used to get tierd on rides quickly, but have noticed improvments, i do some free weights and machines every so often, but im no regular to it, so it hasnt had a big impact on my riding.
