  1. Like i say the driver thing is my biggest worry. I know the weather on Nevis can be pretty bad this time of year, that's what I've read. But how bad are we talking??? Nobody seems to explain this, just say that it's worse than it is in summer, duh! Reason for doing it now, is, quite frankly, because me and a couple mates are all off work and need something to do. Could get pissed around town like we always do, but we wan't to do something different. Don't get me wrong though, just becuase we decided to do it in the pub the other night, it doesn't mean we're not taking it seriously, and we're all quite experienced in the outdoors.
  2. Like the title hints, I will be attempting the UK three peaks challenge on the 19th+20th May. I just wondered if any of you lot had done it, and weather or not you had found it hard? For anyone who doesn't know, the three peaks challenge involves climbing the highest peak in England, Scotland, and Wales in any order in a single 24 hour period. The names of the peaks are Ben Nevis (Scotland), ScaFell Pike (England) and Snowdon (Wales). My expectation is that the hardest thing about it will be the lack of sleep, rather than the physical challenge of walking the hills. I say this because I am quite physically fit and have done some walking before, but also because we are not employing a designated driver (we will be sharing the driving between the two of us (third person isn't insured), all of us climbing the peaks). Correct me if i'm wrong!
  3. About three times now I have picked up the phone to ring someone, and without dialing any numbers, my mate just goes 'hello'. He rang me at the very instant I was gonna ring him. Freaky as shit.
  4. AFAIK they're just going to stop giving updates to people running a pirated copy.
  5. I've never known url get data put straight into variables with the same name before how strange Glad to help.
  6. You need to grab the 'get' data from the url and put it in the $op variable mate. Somat like $op = $_GET['op']; but i'm rusty on the actual code so i hope you get what I mean.
  7. Haha sort of. For your information, Vista's GUI is very advanced, what with all windows being able to be rotated in 3d, etc. Yes the glassy-ness of it all is a copy of OSX, but it does go a step further. Expect some very cool looking apps once programmers get used to programming the new style. This is why the system requirements for vista will be so high. As for firefox??? I still plan to use firefox over IE7 in Vista, I don't quite follow your point. How is the new version of windows going to be a copy of the Mozilla firefox web browser? We're talking about HDCP not HD as in high definition. HDCP is about stopping copywrite protected films being pirated, HD is just more pixies in yer telly. It would not stop Vista working, it just fuzzes up videos that you're not supposed to be watching.
  8. I would not normally argue against paying for software, but this case is different. First off, Windows XP home currently costs £170, so expect Vista to cost more than that. Secondly, the reason I resent paying that, despite thinking Microsoft have done a good job and deserve my cash, is that the product is not fairly priced. Bill Gates is the richest man in the world, followed by several other Microsoft top-dogs. £90 yes, ~£250, erm Linux please.
  9. Click start-->run and type 'msconfig' and pres enter. Go to the startup tab and uncheck all of the ones except for the few that are your virus scanner and anything else that looks important. Don't cry if you f**k up your pc this way, but its the only way to stop a lot of shit loading and it works.
  10. Ah cool that's all right then. I mean the pirate video's that (I hear) are on the net arent exactly going to be protected anyway. So the only people this protection system will hurt is those that pay for their dvd's. Sure is making me consider stopping pirating videos and buying them On another note, unlike previous versions of windows, aparently this one is going to stop you downloading updates if you are running a pirated version. What with windows security having more holes in it than a proverbial sieve, this could be quite a serious issue, and one that would make me consider linux as an alternative, seeing as all I use the pc for nowadays is office, the internet, and as a terminal server. Anyone know anything about terminal services on Linux? Any good etc?
  11. It's from the internet bud, and it's true. There's no way i'll be paying to upgrade to vista with this crap in it. Buy it, no. Wait till I know it's been patched then pirate it, yes. With regards to the computer buying, I'd look at the offers that dell have on every now and then. Dell computers come with all support and stuff which is good.
  12. If biff drew that he did not do it in 30 minutes.
  13. Wrong, hence the lengthy explanation above
  14. Yeah, i remember thinking they were gonna do ballroom dancing, I was glad when it turned out to be disco dancing, so I could make a prat out of myself like normal and still have a laugh.
  15. I go to dinner dances all the time, usually in a tux, all part of the job Those things normally end up like a cheesy disco, and I just dance like, well, yeah the guy out of room 5! Or just cheesy disco dancing really, nothing special. The one's I go to tend have people 20-45 in attendance, and it's the 20-30 yr olds that dance, so all the young one's, and everyone's in the same boat, so just be confident and dance away! Like ^^ said, look around the room for the coolest guy (not too close that people realise you're copying!) and copy him!
  16. Right click my computer properties Advanced Under performance, click settings Uncheck 'show shadows under desktop icons' Ok, Ok Ok back to the desktop Right click the desktop. Properties Appearence tab. Advanced. Choose desktop. Make it white. Windows will see this and automatically change the desktop icon text to black. However puts ugly boxes around desktop icon's.
  17. The finished product is still gorgeous though. I'd get that body kit fitted to my punto if it made it look like that. Even if 0-60 would still be around 15 secs!
  18. Good on you buddy, join the club . Having said that, it's all good being the only accountant in the firm that is into extreme sports, it's a good conversation starter, which is important when networking. Although football is always a better one! I'd also like to point out that I don't feel pressured at all to drop my biking for my job either. Everyone needs something to do outside of work, and biking is perfect. Keeps you fit, enjoyable, and doesnt interfere with your career (so long as you don't smash your face up too much, they arent too keen on that!). The prospects of my job are good, and I'm proud that I've carried on working hard in school along side my biking to get to where I am. There's no way I'd advise giving up on your career 'because it interferes with your biking', because that is bullshit. If you end up in a crap job chances are it will be similar hours but less pay, so you may end up stuggling to fund your hobbies, whatever they are.
  19. No, Apples (surprisingly enough) isn't a sole trader or partnership, so the rules are different to say, if your dad's a plumber or something. It's a publicity thing to make them look like they are doing it for the company. Even if they're salary, taxed through (the american equivilant) of PAYE (income tax) is only 1 dollar, there are still many more ways for them to pay them selves from the company. When you're that high up in a company you have the power to do it in much better (more tax efficient) ways too. Anyways, without looking it up, i'm sure he's a large shareholder in said companies anyway, so he'll recieve dividends (payments to the shareholders out of the companies profit). In fact he'll probably have a say in what dividends the company pays. Like I say these guys are powerful. They pay themselves! This wouldn't be classed as salary, so if he recieves $500,000 in dividends in the year, his salary is still only $1. Poor guy! His wealth will also fluctuate because one of the most tax efficient ways to get money from a company you have a lot of control of is to have the company buy back its shares from other shareholders. This decreases the number of shares on the market, and increases the value of your stake. Whatever you do don't start donating money throgh paypal because you feel sorry for the guy!
  20. It's looking pretty bad for a computer that wont boot mate. Do you have a bootable setup disk you can use to reinstall windows? By the above i mean: A windows cd, that you put into your cd drive before you turn your computer on, so that it boots the operating system on the cd rather than on c:\
  21. I don't think there si a problem currently with peoples views on sex. As at any point in time, there are different classes/groups (not necessarily of class) and in these different groups different views are held. For example, I think there is a problem with teenage pregnancy among the chavs. However, there are a lot of none chav girls, also having a good time, sensibly, in the none chav group. And it isn't hurting anyone among those people generally. The problem nowadays as highlighted recently by adverts and the like, is that drink and casual sex can be a bad mix. It's almost at the point where you need to get a signature before you can shag! Even your own girlfriend of 2 years! What really needs to happen is pricks need to stop taking advantage of girls who are clearly drunk. My view: I think sex is something far more enjoyable in a relationship anyway
  22. I know how you feel mate. I split up over a year ago now under same circumstances, and after a bit i wanted her back because I just couldnt deal with it. But she, being a fit bird, had other lads after her and didnt want it, so I HAD to deal with it. It's not a fast process, but i look back now, and am so happy that I got out of the relationship that wasn't working! In other words mate, it'll all be ok! Trust me, everyone's the same
  23. Yeah, if you could find a hotspot that has not been encrypted/secured (most residential areas have quite a few) then you can connect to their wireless network and use the shared internet connection on that network. Essentially, you are using their broadband. I choose not to, but if i wanted to i can connect wirelessly to someone around here's wireless network and use their internet. Probably should download my music through theirs in case the feds come But yeah the alternative is bluetooth to your phone and gprs, which having used quite a bit, I can say isnt that slow for browsing, but just don't try and download anything. It's really easy to set up too. the cost varies, but I THINK (not 100%) that t-mobile and orange are going to be doing flat-rate tarrifs for gprs, so in other words like your home internet you get charged the same every month as opposed to for how much you use it. Mark
  24. I'm sure that's his main concern But yeah, ask her. Straight out. IF there is a reasonable chance. Other than that, don;t you have any mutual firends that you can plug for information? Surely they'll know who';s it is? Mark
  25. Well trials-forum before it was on a dedicated server used to be with www.aegishosting.com, who offer dedicated servers which tomturd obvoisly turned down in favor of someone else. So i'm guessing tomturd is gonna suggest beter than that! Reason I relate back to the forum hosts is they seem to know what they're talking about when it comes to web design and stuff, because they have shared similar views to me in the past when I was a webmaster. Mark I think its bang out how they put that hamster in the jar.
