The "what did you get for Christmas?" thread
bikeperson45 replied to onzatpro09's topic in Chit Chat
My fallback is always just asking for some cheap earphones, so I know my brother'll have got me those. Got my mum a lovely potato sack though, there's always a potato rolling around somewhere in our kitchen and now that'll be fixed once and for all. -
Great riding. I'm curious though, did the security ask you to leave?

Pussy's a slang word which is why I differentiated it from general words there. The only reason I can see about the F*cking Hell example is that's not UK, sorry if I've overlooked another reason but your posts just seem to say 'that's retarded'. I asked could products with the word f*ck start being sold, you said obviously no. I show a product that proves your answer as incorrect and I instantly get called retarded. That, I do not understand, I think that is a legit example and the only reason you're dismissing it so abruptly is because it shows, what you considered to be obvious, wrong. And I'm fairly sure I understand the context. My reason for posting is to argue in a good natured sense and yours is to call someone else retarded rather than actually provide any real reasoning for your thoughts. If people read all of our posts here and continue to think I'm an idiot I'm fine with that because, in my eyes at least, that's clearly not the case.

Okay, I had never found that extract so I'll kind of take what I said back. When you had mentioned their slogan and mission statement I had only looked at their website where there is no mention of anything cat related. I'd question the honesty of that though, which was probably prepared by a lawyer when they asked him 'we're making a drink called Pussy, what can we do to continue advertising when the complaints come?'.
-
Okay, we defiantly agree with the first sentence, although when Mark W said "Their slogan and mission statement is at pains to stress they mean it in the 'feline' sense, and don't refer to it meaning anything else specifically." I disagree with that. Also my F*cking Hell example, I disagree with your views on that, you thought that was a retarded question when I asked it and I show there is a product with a worse name being sold in multiple continents. Apparently that question had an obvious answer and that answer was the opposite of what you guys thought it would be, yet you still disagree. And in terms of kids, I understand they won't know the meaning of it, I've said that myself in agreement. However, I still think it creates an unnecessary familiarity with these offensive words with no decent reason, and this familiarity spreads to kids who see pussy on cans and billboards who will then probably accept it as a general kind of word. We all agree it's terrible taste, but seems to me that the question is whether marketing that is in terrible taste should be allowed in such an open manner. In my opinion, it shouldn't, though that's probably clear by this point And stop calling people retards and idiots so much, it doesn't help convince people that what you say is right. Same goes for posting pictures of people with Down's syndrome, obviously they'll be retaliation when you're insulting people's intelligence.

Yea like that one, the one banned for being sexually explicit. And I guess we are going around in circles now. I think the word pussy was chosen for the reason of publicity and that's bad, you guys think that's okay. I disagree with the logic, you disagree with mine but guess I'll accept that. That seems to be the gist of it so we might as well wrap this up.
-
Everything you said makes sense, but if nobody criticized there would be massive billboards saying Pussy. I'm not a believer in the 'don't do anything and accept that this happening' approach. Pretty sure that's how the Nazi's rose to power. Edit - kind of joking about the Nazi thing before I get called out for massively exaggerating to an extent that makes me stupid.

Chris Akrigg had replied to someone's post asking about the validity on is facebook, but he's taken that down now it looks like? -
I don't think FCUK is a massive improvement or anything, but at least there is at least a working context. There is no reason to call an energy drink pussy other than the marketing gimmick, where as FCUK can almost justify it even though it's most likely a marketing gimmick as well.
-
I would think that 'The drink is pure, it's your mind that's the problem' is a slogan that is there to bring to the attention of people that this is not cat related but more to do with a 'hey look, we managed to get the word 'pussy' on a giant billboard' kind of though process. If it were genuinely cat related, maybe a slogan along the lines of 'Paws and appreciate the great taste' would make more sense, a slogan that doesn't highlight the fact that this word can men vagina. I'll say no to that because it has a context to it, like the Pussy Riot example. Although I would think that the similarity to f*ck was also considered a reason with the intention of generating interest in the company. You disagree? And I don't see why I'm getting mocked in a bad fashion here. At least I'm expressing an opinion here rather than posting in order to belittle someone else's thoughts.
-
Okay, most likely last post here. Was going to leave but getting continually called retarded and real slow gets on my nerves when I've expressed what I consider to be a valid opinion. And when I gave the example of another drink sold that's called 'F*cking Hell' and then for that to be dismissed as retarded for, what seems to be, the reason that it does conflict with the opposing view is annoying. Like Ben said, I don't see the word itself as being offensive. I'm not offended by vaginas or by words with that meaning but I do see it as a bad thing when potentially offensive words (I say potentially because some people do, although, as I've said before, I don't) are used as a marketing gimmick. I think it creates an unnecessary exposure to the word when it's intentionally used for the vagina meaning, which is shown through the slogan. I just think that it's a kind of slippery slope when we're allowing these things to be used for indecent reasons in such a public way. The BBC saying Pussy Riot is a different thing, it's being used within the context of the name of the band. The BBC is not simply using the word pussy to create a media buzz in an attempt to get people talking about it but using it to tell the news. So for that reason I'm not outraged by it. And if someone's going to say 'why'd you care so much' or 'don't you have better things to do than post about this', my answer is I'm home alone watching The Conjuring and it's creeping me out so this is a kind of nice focus change.

I wish I had a camera at that age. Did so much funny stuff that'd be cool to watch back, do have some of it though like running and screaming when we ran into a wasp nest in an abandoned house

That wasn't part of the £220?

To me your just coming across as someone who can't debate anything and just dismisses a point by saying 'retarded', so no longer bothering with your posts til there's some point in place of an insult. I know F*cking Hell might not get sold in the UK, but it's still sold in other places and shows that offensive language as a marketing gimmick is a real thing. I could release an energy drink called Big Sweaty Dick and say 'wrong meaning, it's a drink named after my tall friend Richard who is often sweaty due to his vigorous exercise routines' and there shouldn't be a problem because I'm not referring to genitals. I do understand what you're saying about it's an ordinary word to kids who don't know the slang, but I think it still does create an avoidable exposure. Here's my view in one sentence - Using (potentially or otherwise) offensive words for branding for the sake of publicity is not a good thing, and may potentially lead to an increased exposure of bad language to unaware children and other people who may object.
-
The worst thing is I only replied at first for the sake of making the argument a little more two sided, and to criticize tiling. In reality, I'd walk past it with a slight look of cynicism yet when I put my view into writing I'm retarded. It's safe to assume having seen the drink on a shelf it's never ruined my day and it's never concerned me enough to formally complain about it. And the whole 'thought you'd have more important things to worry about' is a bad point. I do, and presumably you have more important things than replying to someone with a differing view but still we're both here.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/f**king_Hell A beer called 'f**king Hell' that's sold in Europe, Asia and Australia. So apparently the answer to my question is yes. None of those names have multiple meanings relating to genitals though, so there's going to be more of an attraction to Pussy. And when their slogan's 'The drink is pure, your mind isn't' their intention is obvious and it's the intention that I think makes it bad. And whatever spin you put on it I disagree with using potentially offensive slang words for marketing in places where kids are going to see them. Call me stubborn, but I steel feel that what I've said makes sense and is something you disagree with rather than being retarded.
-
I never said it was offensive, all I've been saying is that it's a pathetic marketing thing playing with a word with multiple meanings, intentionally chosen because one of two of those meanings can be considered offensive. I find that offensive, but if we're at the petty personal insult stage then I hope the fleas of a thousand camels nest in your hair. And if you actually showed me anything that I've said that is 'f*cking retarded' and not just something you simply disagree with I'll accept your poorly worded criticism.
-
As much as you can say it's another word for cat, we know it's a marketing gimmick to get a reaction and not a drink for the tired cat appreciating demographic.
-
N word's on a different league on the offense scale, guess I'm just trying to say about how kids could pick up the word and not understand the significance the word has when it's actually used. It's just not something the should be encouraged with general products like energy drinks. Seems to me that women find the word pussy and c*unt worse than words like f*ck, and if the drink was called 'f*ck' would it have been allowed to be sold as openly? Genuine question there. Generally though I do notice kids using worse language and I don't like that. I only really encountered swear words when I started secondary school which was because of the mix of older students. In primary school none of my friends swore. These days though (I help out with Scouts a lil) I've heard 9 year olds calling each other pussies and bitches and whatever and it's always weird hearing young people swear like that, but that's obviously going to be due to more than an energy drink I'll admit. And the thing I think is sad is I'd bet the majority of the 2.4 million people who bought it are teenagers who buy it once just so they can go back to their friend's saying 'hey guys, I just got some pussy' and trying not to grin. And yea, bad name generally
-
But five year olds are learning to read, they go in a shop and see a drink they pick up the word and start using it non feline related contexts. Obviously it's not genuinely offensive but I still think it's a bit much. They've used a naughty word so people talk about it and at the same time kids walking around in stores start learning some slang genital terms without understanding them. If a white guy ignorant to history started using the n word you don't say 'he doesn't know what it means, let him keep saying that to people', you say 'you don't realize it but you shouldn't say that'. They don't have to drink it, they just have to see the word that's branded in shops. And yea I joking when I put 'sweet' in there, but those five year olds still have pussy on their mind. And pussy's not actually linked to have been made with vaginas, so kind of a difference.
-
You wouldn't call a 5 year old a c*nt though. 5 year old goes in a shop and started saying he wants to taste some sweet pussy then I think it is a bit much and a shallow marketing gimmick. Edit- missed a star

Loved Catching Fire, glad they got a different director that doesn't exclusively use shakey cam. And the new Hobbit was amazing, barrel scene is up there with my favorite ever movie scenes

Not a fan of your tiling to be honest, interior designers are worth it.
