  1. Are they really that bad? The durometer according to Tarty is 50a, same as maxxis super tacky and try-all sticky lite, and better than the standard try all sticky (55a). I guess there is more to how grippy the compound is than just the durometer? But yeah other than the out of stock Trial Queen your only other light option is the tryall sticky light. I'd be interested to see how grippy the mountain king is compared to my big betty... P.S. Can't remember if I said but my tyre arrived last week safe and sound
  2. Sounds a bit more than just grease, it sounds like the bearing have been knocked in too far. They only need to be tapped in very gently, not knocked hard into place. Unless it was repaired by an experienced cycle mechanic then I would bet this is the issue. Most normal mechanics don't appreciate how delicate bike systems are compared to cars and motorbikes etc.
  3. Gutted that it broke so soon after all that effort of a respray I like Revolver and Skoze for suggesting my Pure, you know it makes sense! Buy it and then you will ride as good as If only I could still ride like that!
  4. That looks more like the compression ring to me? How well does it fit together now? There shouldn't be any rubbing! It should spin very easily, something is very wrong.
  5. lol yeah you got it, crown races are specific to each headset. If you change forks or headset, you need to switch the crown race over.
  6. I wouldn't worry about it Ben, I think it's really good that you can share things even if its just on a public forum. I am the complete opposite, I've found it really hard to talk to people when I've been depressed the last few months. I remember sitting by the phone one night trying to get up the courage to ring Samaritans but never did, its good to talk!
  7. That looks bloody nasty! Good luck with the recovery dude, least you will have a decent scar to show for it
  8. I would throw the magura julie brake in the bin and buy something that actually works for trials
  9. The piston is bottoming out in the lever, you haven't bled it properly, go and try bleeding it again. You shouldn't need to use the tpa to get the pads to hit the rim, if they don't reach then move the cylinders closer.
  10. Just because you are ignorant as to how something works doesn't make it shit. Most hydraulic brakes require ptfe tape or sealant on all fixing unions, whether its a brake system on a bike or a car. Threads just don't give a good seal in a high pressure system. I will admit that hydraulic discs can be difficult to set-up and maintain. If you're not good mechanically then you are probably better off with a different brake, but they are far from shit...
  11. This^ Hope bleed nipples will often leak after bleeding if you don't use ptfe tape.
  12. I wouldn't bother with a deep cup headset like that, they don't fit some frames and are a bit overkill for trials. Personally I would go for http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=851, a pretty mint headset for the money (I'd prefer that over an Echo)
  13. Sounds like one of the bearings is knackered or you have fitted them too tight.
  14. Yeah the same tread pattern, but a completely different carcass, sidewall and compound by the look of it. Hence why I compared it to the rubber queen, just a smaller version of that with the rain king tread pattern.
  15. I think I speak for every single man on here when I say... f**k off, posts like that don't belong in here It sounds like there are much deeper issues at play than simply 'she's into me so I'm not interested.' If she's really that amazing then maybe you are scared you won't be good enough or she'll loose interest? Whatever the reason, your behaviour is only gonna push things the wrong way and make her more clingy. Give a little back, show some interest and stop treating her like your sister. If she knows that you like her then she is much less likely to be clingy. It seems silly to not even try when it sounds like it could develop into something awesome. Who knows in a few months you could be really happy together, what do you have to lose? I can think of worse things than sharing time with an attractive and talented girl!
  16. I don't think it will be. The 2.3" Baron is aimed at all mountain riding so it will probably have the same compound as the rubber queen/mountain king. On paper it just looks like a slightly smaller version of the rubber queen (although that's no bad thing really!)
  17. Personally, if fuel prices continue to rise then I think I will slowly convert my car into something like this. But really I don't think there is much we can do. Peoples habits will change as energy prices increase. Products are already beginning to be more efficient than they used to be, and we will have to pay closer scrutiny to our energy usage. I think we will see a lot more fission stations in the future. Fusion is a looooong way off and I can't see it becoming a reality until after 2050. If anyone is interested in this subject then I recommend watching

Not bad for a TGS koxx rider What happened to the clips of Tim?
  19. The reason they crack is the sharp 90° bend (red circle in the photo below) concentrates any stress going through the lever to that one point (a stress riser). Anything from a crash or knock to the lever, or even just pulling the brake hard will create a lot of stress at that point, this is why they crack so easily. This is also why they are so much stronger once they have been modified. Cut the lever (yellow lines in the photo below) and file the metal so it is smooth, removing the sharp edge/corner. This removes the stress riser so any force going through the lever is spread evenly across its edge, no more cracks! The second photo shows my lever.
  20. It still makes me laugh when people complain about magura levers cracking. My current lever has lasted nearly 5 years, I cut it with a hacksaw on day 1 which took about 5 mins max!
  21. And we were just giving our opinion back and correcting a mistake so people don't get the wrong idea? Like I said I have wanted to try one for a while so I'm glad to hear somebody rating them well. According to tarty the durometer is 50a, which is still pretty damn soft at the end of the day! Edit: old man is slow
  22. Is it repairable, and if so do you fancy selling it to me? As for a replacement, the Trialtech Race is decent for the money. Bearings last well although the axle isn't as strong as some designs (depends how harsh you are). Truvativ DH is also good for the money. Strong axle and the bearings are pretty good, just slightly heavier than others. Oh and any 68x128mm BB will fit, as you're running middleburns you shouldn't have any problems there.
  23. As Nick said, there are at least 3 different versions of the black chilli compound. The name just refers to the technology used, which that link describes. You don't really think a road race tyre would be as sticky as the worlds grippiest DH tyre Oh and you have the Mountain King Mk1. The second version isn't out yet and has a completely different tread pattern. The compound used isn't as soft as der kaiser, which the Tartybikes durometer test has proved. MKs are designed for XC/trail riding where rolling resistance is important (and something Conti care about a lot in their tyres, that's what black chilli was originally designed to improve!) So unless the Germans made a cock up (not likely!) then it shouldn't be as grippy. Its good to see that you think it grips well though, I have considered using one for a while, will have to try one at some point now.
