approx 1 mile, 2-4 minutes on the motor? walking takes 20-25min (the roads are almost dead straight, two corners?) but i'm heading in at 6am so i can never be arsed to give up 20 minutes more sleep to save the planet, the motor doesn't burn tooo much fuel anyway

yeah, shout skoze. i just remembered my uncles series that he used for launching his boats, was a tiny bit rusty to say the least. although he did leave it on the slip once, returned to find it submerged from rear to front door/front wheel. engine escaped so it started ok. when cleaning it up with oil and water he went to check on his 2 yr old, leaving the cleaning mix near the bar fire which was drying the landy. whoops, whoooompfff! landy, garage and speedboat in flames. insurance paid up but it gutted the landy and garage, the boat escaped with hull damage (he got a whole new boat, but sold the old engine, seats, controls, running gear and actually made a profit out of the entire episode )

plymouth is great, so much more relaxed nights out here compared to a lot of cities i've visited, don't believe the union street crap. it aint dangerous unless you're a complete numpty and decide the aquilla need some abuse. either way i can hear what someone said about it being a long way from anything else interesting, having said that, if anything good happens in the true south west, it'll happen in plymouth normally, plus nearby beach in summer can't be beaten!

oh dear skoze.... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...E:X:AAQ:GB:1123 tell me that isn't there or i may have to purchase it

yeah seems to be the way! my mate, mike, got that disco for 390 or summat crazy. i'm hoping mike gets back to me soon..... may have to rob a bank between now and then. thing is when i leave uni i'll be pulling a reasonable wage (for a 1st serious job) around 18-19K so i might be able to run my motorbike/leafer/trialsbike/rent? living on a shoestring.....

ye i think the engine/parts coming out of his 109 re-build/alteration may be useful spares, as well as the disco donor vehicle (although i doubt any thing useful will come from something so gay). may have to persuade him to hang on and not sell the bits, although i doubt he will sell them, his/his wifes series 2 will also require parts occasionally diff/old gearbox/engine may become a useful source though. I'm so glad i have an empty double garage, problem is it lacks any kind of useful tools. argggh i need to stop talking about it and get me one! still watching that s2 and tempted to drag someone up to see it, it isn't a forum members is it? they know the value of such a vehicle.

if you print a lot of photo's (not at photo quality but just printing them) it may be economical to spend a tad more on the printer to make sure ink is cheap. i have a shitty ass hp d1470 (i can see it from here) which i got free with software from pc world last time i bought ink i nearly bought the printer instead of the ink. ink was 18-19 quid and a printer was only 20 i seem to remember. Thats tearing the arse out of it in my opinion. damn printing companies absolutely take your pants down and take what they please once you've bought a printer. And who needs to print stuff all the time?- students, who hasn't got any money?- students rant over

skoze i've a question- '68 manufactured series 2 (linked to earlier), that'll be 88"? and exempt despite 1st registration in 83? also any luck getting some angry noises from Bernards monster v8? I need to get a foot in for this helping each other out though!! might be that my landy tutor has some stuff he may want to swap or sell, think i might be popping out at the weekend or next can't wait, damn uni getting in the way!!!

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LAND-ROVER-SERIES-2a...=item3a56d81333 hmm thats cheap (10 day listing i guess though so could get busy soon!) and relatively near 10 months test as well, may have to keep an eye on that!!! damn not having the money now though!!!

Seeing as you've been so helpful with my interests Skoze, i'll not report that. lol i can see a few main protagonists on OLLR, but the lengths people go to when moving parts, helping out repairs is unreal! can see this being a very useful link, cheers bud!

cheap (ish) and insure is anything that has no appeal to anyone other then function over fashion. quote of 500 quid (1st car, no no-claims, 21yrs old) on a 2.5 TD double cab pick up ford ranger made me smile but 390 for a series landy made me smile more, definately keen to get me one!

i'm on 4x4uk.org now, there is loads of info/tips on there. it covers just about every kind of 4x4 ever. admittedly not so much on classic rovers though, a few keen people but more into abusing them off road then appreciating an engineering masterpiece (ish) hit up OLLR now, i made a real boob and didn't read the new sticky which says your forum name now has to include a reference to landies, otherwise it might not get activated! :@ oh well, we'll see. thanks for the tips though skoze, same name on OLLR? EDIT: sorted , validated etc on OLLR, geez there's a lot of info, and these guys are almost fiercely passionate about leafers! love it

ahh that explains a lot, from waht i gather its goin to be a exempt chassis, suspension and i guess steering. but not 100% skoze any other forums i should check out to get a little more knowledge? he know's the score though and his other exempt landy is all original so wait and see... i hate having to wait, just want to buy one now! (even though i have no money) in a week or two i have a free weekend so i might pop out to see him, ask if he wants a hand or anything
-
i thought the chassis and shell had to be classic but the rest is ok to update? or am i being dense? it's annoying, i need a big one to get the bike in, but that makes it less of an off roader, reduces economy and performance. may just go for a shorty, and leave benches in the back.... and get a rack it's not until may i can actually buy anything though, having said that... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LAND-ROVER-SERIES-3-...=item27ae874f6b and http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BUY-A-LANDROVER-SERI...=item1e59f31c7e

My project is a 1967 Series 2a 109 (long wheelbase) Station Wagon (5 doors, two rows of seats with additional benches in the back). When finished it will not be your conventional Landy 109 Safari. Just before Christmas I bought of Ebay a 1996 Disco for £360. This is the donar vehicle for the project. I will be using the 2.5Tdi engine, a 5 speed gearbox from a modern defender and the disco axles. Suspension is all Old Man Emu, with a 2” lift, and slightly oversized tyres. All in all when done it will look like an old series vehicle running on modern a chassis and suspension, with good road speed without compromising any off road ability. The idea is that it will be our family car for holidays, greenlining (it’s also having a winch on the front) etc. So far I have demolished the disco and removed all the bits I want, the shell is standing outside the house on axle stands. The new chassis is due to arrive at the end of the month, and I am part way through stripping down the Disco axles. These will be going of to be shot blasted before being painted and rebuilt. As you probably I also have a 1960 Series 2 88” (short wheel base), I have had this for years, rebuilt it twice and now my wife drives it every day to work. I think it is the ideal Landy to start with, best is the soft top either Series 2 or 2a, preferably pre 73 at they are tax free. Would suggest you steer clear of the diesels (sluggish, smokey & bloody awfull) and V8’s (8 – 12 mpg, high insurance, brakes need to be servo assisted, but great fun and a sweet (the best sounding) engine). Any time you want to have a play do let me know. ^^to quote my old boss, damn he's holding onto them but ye there we go!! gonna keep saving and keeping an eye out etc

change title to 'close' won't take long

ye nick lives in st-judes, kinda divides his time quite a few other hobbies though. plus our main protagonist for riding is away in london atm, shud really ride again (haven't in ages and was just starting to improve to about average lol. not sure if he's on the forum though, shall try and find out if you want?

i thought the 7-series was already purchased? however taking either of those would result in a weekend thinking- 'hmmm wish i had my track slag bimmer...'
-
old school monty? alfa 156? if yes, probably a mate called Nick. - tasty 26" silver zoo/echo (was de-stickered) blue rims/hubs/bash i think, front disk, chained oustide library at plymouth uni?

yeah i'm never any good with the barter, however i may drag along my resident expert (if he'll spare the time (he's director of a civil engineering firm but he thinks i'm great and also is a land rover nut)) i've dropped him an email, which he usually replies within 24hrs too, hopefully i may have my learning tool, mentor and purchase
