  1. I only run about 15 psi in my back. Not sure i would if it wasn't for the tube, I started using these huge 20x4" monsters that seems to keep you rolling with very little air in them. Seem lots thicker too, haven't had a puncture since I started using them (maybe I'm not trying hard enough ). They're heavy though.
  2. Fair do's, that makes sense, and is really exactly what happened with old square taper cranks I raced on. Which begs the question, why do people still use taper cranks?
  3. Really? I've never had this happen on a trials bike. I have only ever used isis splined cranks/bbs though, is it a square taper issue? The only time I've had a similar sounding problem was on my downhill racer, and that was a case of too much pressure moving metal = buggered.
  4. I remember both of these things so well, I must have been all of 13 or 14 at the time. I used to love seeing these crazy blokes doing things on bikes I could only aspire to. I raced xc for years before I took up trials (from the age of 8!). The two Martyns were deffo where it started for me (or maybe it was Hans Rey actually, it was so long ago now I can't remember....), and if I'm not mistaken it wasn't that long after that that Chris Akrigg appeared on the scene, I think he was the swaying factor, a cross county rider doing these things made me think all of a sudden that I might have a chance. He rode a Pace rc250 at the time. Man I wanted one of those so badly. Then I wanted Eddie Tongues Pashley. It was around then I started riding trials, I would have been about 16-17ish. I used an old gt zaskar. What a heap that was All ended only a year or so later after a collosal crash on a downhill course back home in NI. I rode trials again after about a year of being able to do nothing, but my confidence had been so badly knocked I gave up after only a few weeks. This is about 7 years later and I've been back riding for about half a year. What prompted this? F**k knows. I just wanted to ride again. So I built up a cheap mod and started riding. Love it even more than the first time round now. And I'm learning faster too.
  5. In a word; no. If it's working itself loose constantly theres obviously something wrong. If they've stayed tight all of a sudden without you doing anything else then I'd be pretty suspicious as to why. Maybe take 'em apart, make sure everything is ok (incidentally, what kind of crank/bb combo are you running?), then re-grease them properly and tighten everything up again. That way, if you're doing any serious damage to your crank/bb, you at least have a chance to prevent any more and possibly save them.
  6. I know it's not on your list, but I've been using a Moe isis for about 5 months now, i got it pretty cheap off ebay (just came across it by chance and decided to give it a shot). It's similar in spec to the echo tr, but lighter. Has been good, it's still running smoothly despite the hideous weather i ride in daily, can't really complain.
  7. Friend linked me to this, hadn't heard it in years. Total piss take, but pretty funny all the same. Youtube Video -> Original Video
  8. All new level of boredom, posting a pic of my pet on TF. Thats Benson. She's a collie/whippet cross. Always looks a bit skinny but thats just the breeding, she eats like a horse, is massively fluffy, lazier than me, but much much faster. She comes out on most of my rides and puts me to shame. Bunnyhops things I cant. Front hooks riverbanks. Is a master of up to fronts. Last week I saw her perform a particularly impressive gap from a park bench into a dirty puddle.
  9. I realise it's not likely, but we can all hope right?! Kiera Knightly......I F&^%%£G hate her!!! ps. I can't honestly say I wont violate rule 5 if given the chance.
  10. Bluray is deffo the new standard already. But I think Tomm is right, not a chance it'll last 10 years, if DVD was anything to go by, it'll last 5 or 6 years before they come up with something better again. Not that it really matters to me, my eyesights so bad I can't tell the difference anyway, I just have a bluray player because the missus bought one with my money....
  11. Well said. Nothing like video evidence if you wanna flick the bird at the non-believers haha
  12. I don't ride stock, but thats the sort of eye candy that makes me want to. That frame looks sweet! Mod version please
  13. Bit harsh no? Theres no need for that really, it's not constructive, he's new and wants to learn. He's been riding trials for 3 weeks, not necessarily riding a bike for 3 weeks! A background in bmx, for example, would leave anyone in a good place to start riding trials. I raced xc for the best part of ten years before I took it up and learnt pretty quickly by all accounts. So why bash it? I couldn't do that after three weeks, and I bet you couldn't, but I have no reason to doubt that he can't. The UK is full of talented and natural trials riders, for all you know he's the next Martyn Ashton. @Luke - For how long you've been riding you're punching well above your weight. Tone it down, fine tune the basics before you unleash all that power, and you'll be a great rider. Keep it up man.
  14. I'm one of those bad people that used wd40 to fit grips. Has never caused a problem for me, and they've never slipped. +1 for the trialtech foams btw, awesome grips. I'm intruiged to see how you fit grips with an airline, I've never sen that done and I've been riding a long time now.
  15. The balance will come in time man, wouldn't worry about it, the more time you spend on the bike the more comfortable you'll become with it. Balance on the back wheel can take a long time to really dial in, took me months to become comfortable balancing like that, and it does help for making big hops. Those small hops give you time to compose yourself for more powerful moves. If you see that as being one of the problems then spend some more time simply working on your balance in general, sounds boring, but it will pay off in the end. Being able to pedal hop already is, again, impressive at 3 weeks, but matching it with good balance will leave you in good stead to take on much bigger obstacles. After all, balance is everything in trials. Good luck dude.
  16. Sidehopping two and a half odd feet after 3 weeks seems pretty impressive to me! Maybe try something just a touch smaller until you have your balance sorted, you're more than likely putting so much effort into the takeoff that your landing is compromised, other than that, practice makes perfect, just keep going at it and eventually it will click! Been reading up on technique? Have a look at www.trashzen.com, lots of good stuff there. Always good to ride with someone better than you too, you'll learn a lot faster that way. You're obviously a quick learner, I couldn't do that after 3 weeks! Good luck with it man.
  17. Well if thats the case then my bad, but it didn't say that. Mine are the fluro 19/20" ones listed currently on their website, no weights stated, and I've never weighed them so couldn't say personally. Overall opinion is they are good though, that was my main point. And aren't the new Trialtech SL ones lighter than the new V!Z ones? Same price too.
  18. Been using a set of V!Z rims since my return to trials earlier this year and they've withstood everything I've thrown at them! I agree with Canardweb about them holding a grind well. I haven't had to do anything to mine in months, and it's still pretty harsh. Not sure about them being particularly light, but they aren't overly heavy. They aren't the most expensive rim out there either, I don't think you can go wrong really.
  19. I have a Tryall NUC, has proven to be a comfy skid lid. Was only 30 quid from tarty too. I think skate style helmets look rediculous on the whole, mine looks massive, or I think it does anyway, but its nice 'n light and doesn't move about at all, perfect for trials.
  20. I love my eno. It picks up fast, has been reliable, easily serviced, the parts don't seem expensive if you manage to break a bit of it (not that I've managed that yet). I have to be honest, it's the only high end ffw I've ever used, but its a LOT better than anything budget I've tried. I'd like a shot on one of the echo or tryall ones with more engagement points, although I can't imagine there's a huge difference.
  21. Voted. 24" TGS sounds interesting, so does the hub, but you'll never persuade me to use one! Will look forward to seeing some finalised designs all the same though!
  22. Personally I have to be in the right frame of mind before I've even gone out the door. If I'm in bad form for whatever reason I tend to ride very badly. With the odd exception where a bit of anger translates into a real assult on whatever I'm trying to make. But on the whole I need to be really calm to concentrate properly, so its chilled beats on the ipod and a warm-up of easy stuff to get me pscyhed for the stuff I know I'm probably going to **** up! The mind over matter thing is true, if you're thinking 'I can't do this', you probably wont. Another thing that makes a massive difference to my riding is the people around me. The pressure of folk watching helps push me a bit further. Or a bit of competition to liven things up. It's always fun to analyse your friends and how they ride. I have two types. The calm quiet ones, they tend to clear sections as if they'd done it a million times with the smoothest of moves. And the angry ones, who are all bashers, and cant get up anything without removing a chunk of wall or frame, or both
  23. Have a look at this - http://www.peterverdonedesigns.com/bikesuspension.htm - has a wee blurb on specific fork oils to use in different forks, Marzocchi is listed too. Good luck.
  24. That looks well oldskool! Whats the geo on that, long 'n low just like the current sl? Hard for me to justify changing from that Trialtech sport though. Cheers min, 'fraid I'm actually gonna be headin home to see the 'rental units at xmas, so I'll be hittin' Holywood seafront with the shiny new toy. You can always let me know if and when ur about, and I might be able to get some of the boys to come on a wee road trip for a ride down in Montrose, you must have some decent spots, you're on the seafront after all.
  25. Never seen a specific team stem, didn't even know there was one. I had a look at the Echo SL stem, looked amazing, all CNC'd wonderfulness, perhaps when I'm feeling minted!
