  1. Thanks for the comments! The bike rides amazingly well - geo is comparable to the Grey Sky or the Slate2. The higher BB (+55mm) is a nice improvement over the previous version (the last one was +40mm), especially coupled with the long stem and the carbon riser bar. About the bashring, well, it is my first time using a half ring . I followed the advice on tartybikes and gave it some room to slip, but it slipped more than I thought it would (around a half rotation!). Next time I am using a vice and tightening the FW down with a tool! Yes, the mounts are just 2 back magura mounts, with the top one ground down a bit so the bolts sit nicely. I will be switching to a TNN setup on the rear soon, but keeping the front as-is. Overall, I'm pleased with the bike! The Maguras make quite a bit of noise compared to the disc brakes on my other bike, but they feel pretty solid (no wheel flex). The front end is quite a bit lighter than what I am used to, which helps a lot. I would recommend to anyone to get the front end of their bike as light as possible. Combined with the higher BB it just makes everything way easier.
  2. Affter riding dual disc for over a year, I decided to change it up a bit and build a dual HS33 bike. Well, it started with these two RB levers I found buried in my tool kit, and went from there The weight is a bit under 8.9Kg, not bad considering it still has a relatively heavy front wheel. Netto is building me a new front wheel with a lighter hub and ti spokes, so we will see the final weight after I tweak the bike over the winter.   3. They are very close (15 minutes drive maybe?). The best riding in Fountainbleau is near Barbizon/Gorges de Franchard. It's where a lot of the epic nopogo vids were filmed.13 Million visitors per year has created a real problem with erosion though! There is also white chalk and litter all over from the tourists and climbers. It's sad to see, but I guess this is the case for many of the natural areas in France/Europe in general.
  4. I've got a Der Kaiser on my VTT2, and my mate has a Rubber Queen on his. Both are a tight fit, but if the wheel is placed correctly there should be no rubbing. I rode a comp Saturday and Sunday in very muddy conditions and there was no drag. My only suggestion would be to try riding it a bit with the chain overtight, and the chainstretch and grubscrews setting into the snails should cause everything to loosen up. Oh in case it matters I'm running a Rock Hole rim w/ a single cam on the drive side.
  5. Use a strong detergent to clean the pads and rotor, then break in by riding around and putting water on the rotor. Having said that, the Louise brake isn't good to use for the rear. The power is good but the caliper is not strong enough. I broke two calipers and a host of adaptors in less than a month. I have settled on using the Avid BB7, as the caliper and avid adaptors are much stronger. I have 6 months on this setup and it hasn't ever let me down.

  9. From my experience it's best to open and clean WI freewheels before first use. Make sure the springs are working, clean and wipe a little triflo on the pawls to prevent them from rusting. Sometimes little bits from the end of the pawls break off and get into the mechanism after one or two rides. Also, it's obvious but check that the lockring is tight.
  10. Sounds like you let the pedal get loose or never tightened it fully. This can damage the crank/insert interface. Also check to make sure the pedal washer is in place. Try tightening the pedal as much as you can to bring everything together. Unlike regular cranks there is no risk of stripping the crank threads, so get them as tight as you can. I've checked a few people who have had this problem and found that the pedals are 1-2 TURNS from being completely tight. Worst case scenario you could try knocking the insert out and put it back with some JBweld. This should get rid of the wobble.

    James is a beast on the mod. We were just calling out rediculous moves like "quarter pedal bunnyhop hook" or "switch drop to 1.5 turn pedal up", "Hook to front wheel hops" and he would do them just like that. I have comp footage from the day before - he was matching all the moves from Trevor and Tibo on 26". I will edit the footage this week and get it out ASAP.
  13. Don't bother with laser eye surgery unless you are at least 25 and your prescription has stabilized. What they do with the laser is reshape the cornea (the outer layer of the eye) to allow light to focus properly on the retina. It has nothing to do with heating up the lens or the eye muscles!

  15. I've had king funbolts and other aluminum bolts snap before. Be careful if they don't go in smooth, because they are pretty brittle. You could try chasing the threads in your frame with a m5 tap next time before you install the bolts.

  17. The bikes are available from www.hbtrials.com. So far there are no pictures of the complete bike, so the ones on the website were just built up for testing. There is a demo video available on youtube
  18. The ones that ship with Magura mounts or deng brackets are M5x20mm. These won't work with most trials frames. You need to get a set of M5x25mm bolts. Might as well go for an aluminium or titanium bolt upgrade while you are at it.
  19. I'm just saying that if they practiced rocks for a while, it wouldn't be a problem. Maybe they are just not interested.
  20. You can say that natural is way harder, but some people will never be able to sidehop 50" no matter how much they practice. Anyone can practice and learn how to balance on rocks.

  22. Thanks for the info. I used Serv-U a long time ago and it worked well. I just forgot the name. I will give it a go tonight. I couldn't figure out the IIS stuff that comes with XP. Spent nearly 5 hours trying to figure it out one night to no avail.
  23. The guy on the White Koxx (Kevin Liu) is an ace rider. I have a video of him that I made when he came to visit my town last month. I don't have time to edit it until early December, but watch out for it. Video will be called "ontario_vid" or something like that.
  24. Taller people are heavier though, so there must be an optimal mix of muscle and height. Giaco and Vincent are the best riders around and they are both roughly the same size ~185cm. I don't think being short hurts you that much though. Trials doesn't seem to be the type of sport where height plays a huge role, mainly because shorter people in general have a higher power to weight ratio. Just watch Vinco get schooled by Caisso almost every time.
  25. Related question. I would like to set up an ftp server on my home computer, so I can access my files when I'm not home. Does anyone know a good program to do this?
