Well thought some of you guys might be interested in this custom Skye, hopefully the only one out there!
The orange powder-coat is great but living in Scotland can cause some issues, mainly looking like a tit.
So after a few months it was time to change it up.
Originally I wanted to get it powder-coated blue, but plans change for the better!
So, the new Nitromors is rubbish and the old stuff is nearly impossible to get so I went for Starchem Synstryp. Designed to be used to strip powder-coat off alloy wheel so was nice and strong.
Bit of a safety notice - if you get this stuff on you it stings quite a bit so wear gloves and have a nearby water source if you need to quickly clean yourself!
Also do this outside or in a well ventilated area as it stinks!
My first coat (above) was pretty light so my advice is put loads on, for the frame and forks I used about half of the 5 litre tub.
My Skye is also one of the 'older' ones so had 4-Bolt brake clamps welded on, so a bit of hack sawing, filing and sanding quickly cleaned the lines up.
So after stripping all the paint off and cleaning up I was still undecided who I was going to sent it to for the re-spray. After hearing back from a few people and having a crisis over what colour to go for I wanted to go for a ride so re-built it in its raw state, looked great so decided to get it polished up!
Through a team mechanic friend I found a guy (http://www.grateshine-polishing.co.uk/) working out of a shed in town so after two weeks and £100 the frame and forks were ready!
