decided / had no choice but to remove my normally very reliable brakes today after the o-ring on the front brake lever piston decided to suffer from lepracy and flaked itself to pieces, leaving my entire bike covered with a generous coating of brake fluid.. left with just a rear brake i though't i'd take them both off after work today and give it try for a few days while i wait for the new parts to sort my brakes out!! also my mum gave me her old digital camera (from about 2002 i think, its almost an antique) but i haven't got any other camera's so i though't i'd take a few pictures and a couple videos of me trying out my first brakeless stuff on my zoot only really tried some pretty basic stuff today on the flatground its not very trials'y, but i wanted to try some brakeless manuals etc and for some reason it helped me get my 360 hops dialled in, after riding it like this i think i'm going to build a brakeless 24 zoot as a second bike it was awesome fun i can't wait to ride it tomorrow, although i am riding with a list of injuries that is even bigger than the list of parts i would need to build a second bike haha, as you can see at the end of the vid when im limping back to the camera! anyway let me know what you think!! (absent mindedly edited quick vid) My link

im going to jump on the echo sl bandwagon aswell, seriously i wouldn't buy anything else, mine has never skipped and i haven't really heard of any failures on the forums and such.. which helps inspire a lot of confidence.

anybody riding paignton today then? im still absolutely gutted about the weather, i can't decide if i should leave now or not (gotta ride over from brixham) and i know as soon as i open the front door its just going to start pouring down ... its so typical i work all week with amazing sunshine and then as soon as i get to ride on the weekend, its black clouds everywhere and no sun at all!!
-
i would come to torquay, but that would mean riding all the way from brixham and it is quite a long way on 18-14 gearing haha, also the weather is kinda crappy today, if anybody does go out though locally just post up and let me know
-
cool, yea from what i remember there was quite a lot to ride, some ledges, gaps and stairs etc at the seafront and a few other places, let me know if you pop over and we can sort out a place to meet up for a shred
-
anybody out for a ride in paignton this weekend?, im going over for the bike festival on saturday and sunday and im taking my 24 over, was so much to ride in paignton on my bmx so i can't wait to ride trials over there
-
i watched this about 3 hours ago, and im still trying to stop myself from laughing so i can go out riding!!
-
let me know if any of you guys head over to brixham on the weekend, i pretty much know all the riding spots due to living here for something like 14 years! and l33th3tr33, im in the same situation with injuries right now, i've got a really weak knee still after surgery, 2 very painfull wrists, ruined 3rd lower vertbrea and an almost permanantly numb left shin all this and im only 22, but i still ride everyday without fail
-
i ride brixham nearly every day, but when summer really starts i'll be riding in paignton and maybe torquay with a couple other rider's from brixham

i may be able to help in the context (or skilled art) of bodging!! in regards to the seat and seat post, this bodge will only work if you run your seat relatively low and out of the way (like on any fourplay/hex/zoot etc, where the seat exists purely for cosmetic purposes) step 1: go to your local beverage customer interface consultancy (shop) and purchase a canned beverage of any kind (i used a guinness can ) step 2: drink it step 3: cut the top and bottom off the can, then slice down the remaining part of the can vertically, making sure to re-attatch any fingers cut off during this process step 4: wrap the can around the seat post and trim to size needed, once you have the correct size, simply stick a tiny peice of tape on the can to hold it in place whilst you slide it into the frame.. adjust height, tighten seatclamp, bodge complete - one custom limited edition hand made guinness seat post shim

cant wait to see this quoted on a product video guide .. if this did happen, i would probably laugh myself into a coma

thanks for the comments bud, all i need now is a pair of fourplay forks and a pair of sealed pedals and then it will be a beasty little beast still can't decide what colour to get the forks though... (before anyone starts to diss and blather platitudes like "oh it doesn't matter just ride it") the colour of the forks will affect the performance dramatically) best mod i've done recently (for street) was replacing the skinny front rim and tyre with a nice chunky holy roller 2.4 (instead of a 1.85), and also throwing away the skinny front rim and building a nice WIDE rear rim onto the front hub strong as funk now, total win

its an excellent beginner bike for sure at a great price aswell, i've had mine for 3 months now and never had problem with anything on it, although it is modified in nearly every way so i cant exactly review the standard parts as i only had them on the bike for a mere 2 or 3 rides, the main reason for the upgrades was a personal preference in setup, and durability.. although if this bike is setup well as standard it still rides great its really light, flicky and just generally fun all round to ride.. once you upgrade a few parts they start to look pretty trick aaswell (i think) here's a pic or two from a couple of days ago of my zoot with some even more recent upgrades... thought i'd post a couple pics to help you out as i couldn't find a single picture of an upgraded zoot before i bought mine 3 months back.. looking a bit mucky actually, had been riding some sandy rocks all day also they feel incredibly light to hop, even though mine is now a fair bit heavier than the standard model it still hops like a freakin pogo stick here's a quick vid from yesterday of a stationary hop (was pretty knackered it was the end of a massive riding weekend) so not the best but still fairly high for a beginner i'd say.. pause at around 8sec for the full effect haha!! My link anyway hope any of this info helps

hey guys, i was wandering if anybody could recommend me an almost un-bendable front rim to build onto my existing hub (im running dual disc so no need for a quality braking surface on the rim etc), currently im running this wheelset My link the problem i'm having is pretty much half way through every single ride since the first day i put this front wheel on my bike, it ends up buckled/bent and completely unride-able, so i have to go home every single day and remove the tyre, get the spoke key out to stop the tyre rubbing on my forks.. this is growing increasingly tedious as you can imagine, i know its not my weight or riding style that's bending the living sh1t out of the rim, i've never landed overly heavy on it or at a strange angle etc.. which is very strange because my standard wheelset never buckled, neither has my friend's standard zoot wheels! im fairly confident also that its not my true'ing/tweaking of the rim after every single ride as i've built many wheels over the years for myself and friends and all those wheels are still running perfectly true. so i can only imagine its the quality of the rim/spokes thats causing this endless bending.. or the way the wheel was built in the first hand (not by me) has anybody had a wheel do the same thing to them?? any advice would be much appreciated and also a decent rim/spokes if anybody can recommend??

even basic common sense / instinct tell's me that they are fake, but they were pretty clever when it came to marketing them, get a completely self satisfied shithorn like david beckham to wear one and then everybody will want to buy one no matter how much they cost.. people love this sort of tack, cocks like this need to be dealt with, to be honest i don't think it will be long now before these sort of companies start trying to sell you your own shadow

i used to peel mine straight out of the ground with a screwdriver ... go for a ride about and look inbetween the gaps of paving stones, peoples driveways etc lol, sometimes playgrounds have loads of sticky tar laid between the sections of soft tarmac... look for the black sticky stuff, rip out a chunk with a screwdriver, roll the chunk around in your hands like a stress ball untill it warms up and becomes sticky, rub it all over your braking surface, win! never thought of buying the stuff?, but then again i used this this technique about 6 years ago when i was running magura's on my first bike

yea its a mad place, those rocks go on for about 3quarters of a mile in each direction from were the pic is taken, endless fun thanks for the comments on the bike! yea i basicly clamped the bike in a vice upside down so no metal swarf dropped into my bottom bracket, cut the integrated clamp off, it left a kind of insert thingy in the seat tube so i just used a slide hammer to pull it out which left me with a 28.5mm (internal diameter) seat tube, which wasn't quite the same size as the seat post i ordered (inspired 27.2mm) but anyway kept the bike upside down and cut a slot in the back of the seat tube, used a round file to clean up the mess inside the seat tube beacuse there was a few drips from the welds in the frame, cut the seat post down to about 3 inch, had to go mad on the bench grinder with the seat clamp.. it was the perfect fit on the frame but it didnt quite sit over the weld on the top tube so i had to grind about 6mm of metal off the seat clamp , used a peice of beer can for a temporary seat post shim, bolted it all together, job done! thanks mate, its in brixham were i live, down a pretty nice beach called shoalstone, there's just rocks for like 2 miles when the tide goes out its awesome, so many different types of lines and gaps, there's quite alot of decent trials spots in brixham actually all over the place, its just bloody cold and miserable i was thinking of doing a plymouth trip soon, it was mad when i went there on my bmx a few years ago
-
found an amazing place to ride today just down the road from my house, gotta wait for the tide to go out and then its so fun, so many lines to try, although it was a bit too windy to ride today so i jus took a few pictures instead!! absolutely love this bike now its so sweet to ride, once i get the new stem and forks it will be pretty sorted, finally got the seatpost mod done and got rid of that integrated one, so much better looking and much more leg room over the bike i'd say its definately worth doing, i'll post a few pics of how i done it soon just incase anybody else was thinking of trying it, its incredibly easy, once you get over the fear of taking a hacksaw to your brand new bike haha check out the tgs heaven in the background can't really tell with my horrible camera phone but its an awesome place terrible pic of the seatpost mod

get the sl for sure, but the only way your going to notice a major difference in weight is if you are currently running a standard un-sealed heavy steel headset, and replaced that with the echo sl.. it sure is super light at a guess using my hand as a precision scale i would say the sl is about 4 times lighter than a standard headset. and as mark said with the split races it makes it really easy to fit/remove.

thought i'd chuck a pretty poor but quick video together from todays ride, (was nice weather today for once ) to introduce myself a tad more on here, anyway we went for what is probably my third quick ride on this zoot since i've had it.. would have like'd to have ridden it alot more but its been too cold, was a really fun day, didn't really go out to do any filming but my buddy took a few clips on his phone so i thought why not chuck 'em on here... will have lots more footage soon from a proper hd camera, so no lol's just yet at my editing or riding would be much appreciated it was a meere calm practise session today so don't expect anything hardcore / insane etc.. i'll start getting some good vids together when it gets warmer outside and i dont have to put on 4 pairs of trowsers and 18 hoodies whilst riding just to stay luke warm! i apologise in advance for the inevitable backlash of tortured eyes from squinting at the awfully pixelated camera phone quality, My link .... i still haven't worked out how you guys just post the video without the link
-
+1 to that dude love how neat everything is, and of course.. the custom parts also i think after sitting here drooling over those hope tech's for quite some time now, i've decided to go into social hibernation mode and not go out other than to work for a few weeks untill i can afford a pair.. dual disc for the win
-
the simplest way to remove a dent is to remove the part of the frame that's dented... for example, are you tired of that dent on your downtube? why not cut your downtube off completely so you don't have to look at that horrible dent any longer!! but seriously though, if they're going to ban him from riding it if it gets scratched or dented, thats crazy.. why not show his a parents a 10 minute trials bail compilation video on youtube and say this is what happens when you ride trials.

thanks for the extra peace of mind mate... i got around the whole jeans getting caught after purchasing my first pair of spray on jeans not a good feeling but they sure do work!! i think its my recent industrial bout of o.c.d thats making me think my ffw is gunna jam up haha
-
true, i like the idea of sealed bearings though, im sure there would be no need for a lockring with sealed bearings, i don't mean to jack this thread but seeing as it is a "freewheel" thread i may aswell ask, im fairly new to ffw, but after trying it, its grown on me and i really like it... but im slightly worried because i do a lot of fast streety stuff and i can't seem to stop thinking that my freewheel is going to lock up one day when im flat out doing a manual down a hill or something and my cranks will start to spin, leading to my legs wrapping around my cranks and snapping into a million pieces has anybody heard of a ffw locking up?? surely it would cause the cranks to spin right??

haha, i have no experience with rockman parts, heard some bad stories though! when i bought my zoot it came with a warning note saying something wierd like that, "this machine is not intended for indoor stunting and tricking" so i thought to myself oh well it should be fine if i ride it outdoors then
