  1. Had exactly the same problem with my bb7 when i was running a the same rotor. i think the main problem is that with a bb7, one pad is static and the other pad pushes the rotor against the static pad. Only problem with that is that if the rotor isnt very strong laterally then even in short space of time (1 ride for me) the rotor can bend. I bought a second one of the same rotor and had exactly the same problem. Anything heavy to the front wheel (gaps etc) and the rotor would just give up. It got to a point where i was having to bend the rotor straight at the end of every ride just so i could ride back to the car without it rubbing enough to slow me down. I've swapped to the standard avid rotor and had no problems at all. Chris
  2. Already tried that with no luck. An thoughts on how to dismantle the cylinder to service it?
  3. Got a sticky piston on one of my slave cylinders. Anyone know of a way to strip them down, or any other way to free it up? It's barely sticking but it's enough to male the brake rub and it's really starting to piss me off!! Thanks Chris
  4. 43g off the weight and by the sound of things, not too much of a risk. Can't see any reason why it would add stress to any other area of the frame. Bit of info for you Stan. My mate Borys who lives over in Oz snapped the downtube on his black sky fairly recently and has had the downtube carbon wrapped. He's been riding it for quite a while now with zero problems. Looks like a good shout. I'd imagine you could drop best part of 100g off the weight of the frame doing both tubes. Thumbs up from me Chris
  5. It was bound to happen at some point. Shame though, as it makes Oxford worth the trip Was there yesterday with a few others and yes there was a red van outside with a big black tartybikes banner on the back Schoolboy........
  6. Looking for somewhere to ride on Saturday. Milton Keynes seems to be one of the only places that isn't gonna be hit by rain all day. Never been before so looking to get a bit of info. Is it any good? Rideable on a Saturday? Recommended places to ride? We'll be driving up from Reading so it's a fair drive but i'm willing if it's worth the trip. Cheers guys Chris
  7. As mentioined in a previous topic, i'm looking to lighten my bike up. One of the obvious options would be to move from freehub to ffw but i love my Pro 2 and the reliablity it provides. I have a King rear hub which would be another good option, but i just can't trust it in the same way i can the Pro 2. Due to spending so much time researching different parts and options, my crazy brain started thinking the only downside of the Hope unit is the weight, so why not look into way to lighten it up a touch. First thing which stands out is the rotor mounts on the hubshell. Another thing would possibly be removing some material from the centre of the shell by machining in a couple of 10x20mm holes(rough numbers here). Maybe removing material from the inside of the freehub body??? I'm throwing literally everything that comes into my mind here.... I know quite a few guys on here come from an engineering background and can be very helpful when it comes to stresses etc and realistically identifying safe areas to remove material from parts and frames without losing structural strength. Worst case scenario, i end up breaking a hubshell....i buy a new one, problem fixed. This may be a great idea. It may also be the worst and most stupid idea i've ever come up with. Anyone fancy throwing in their opinions? I'll listen to anything. I figure either way it might be quite an interesting topic. Cheers guys Chris
  8. Load up with slow release starchy carbohydrates the night before (brown pasta, brown rice, potatoes etc) and plenty of green veg too, alongside some sort or lean protein (chicken, fish etc). That should be enough to load your muscles with a good base of energy and minerals for the next day. Breakfast on the morning of the comp, again starchy carbs. Porridge oats are great for this and should supply you with a steady source of energy for the next few hours. Drop in some fruit to sweeten it up. Make sure to continue eating every 2-3 hours after that to ensure a constant flow of energy. As someone mentioned above, a banana or 2 are great for this as a snack. Keep yourself well hydrated too. Your body is gonna consume around 1 litre of fluids in an hour of exercise so make sure you're drinkin plenty. In regards to electrolytes, it's pretty simple to make your own mix. Just add a teaspoon of salt to a pint of fruit squash drink. Should do the job. Basically, whatever you eat the 24 hours before your comp is gonna be what helps you the most and makes the most impact. Not just drinking Relentless etc every 20 mins for a quick hit followed by a blood sugar crash. A good, clean and balanced diet will have a HUGE impact on your riding ability.
  9. Need to dump some weight off the back of my bike. So far i'm changing to lighter tubes, cutting down my bash, changing to alloy nipples and shaving every other knobble off my Kaiser. Back wheel consists of Trialtech Sport rim on a Pro 2. Frame is 2011 Pure. Considering removing the inner wall from the rim. Curious how much weight that will drop any if anyone's had any experience in doing the same? How much strength am i gonna lose? I'm gonna be changing to a Viz rim soon anyways but could do without the wheel blowing up but willing to take a bit of a risk to see what the difference is. Please only people who either have direct experience of this or sensible answers from experienced riders/ tarty guys. Also if anyone's got any sensible ideas for dropping some weight without forking out any cash, please say so. Cheers Chris
  10. I live near Reading, ride with the same guys all the time we and travel South and East quite frequently to ride in places like Brighton, Kent , London etc but we never venture North at all. It seems like Milton Keynes etc are about the same distance as Brighton etc but to be honest we don't know any of the areas and don't know which towns are decent to ride. Any suggestions of good places within 1.5 hours of Reading?? Cheers Chris
  11. Got a new bike and itching to ride it but no-one's about round my way tonight. Anyone out anywhere within reasonable driving distance of Reading? I'll go as far as Newbury, Basingstoke, Kingston etc etc Drop me a message on here Cheers Chris
  12. Battery powered heated grips for the winter
  13. Anyone know what length Control he rides in this? Chris
  14. As the topic title says really. Currently ride a 06 Long GU Typhoon and fancy something a bit less skitty on the back wheel. I know not many of these have been bought, but has anyone got any comments or thoughts about this frame choice? Any other recommendations other than this frame? Already spoken to Mark at Tartybikes who was a huge help but thought I'd ask around and see if anyone has had any direct experience with/ridden one of these frames. Thanks in advance Chris Thanks in advance
  15. Anyone know which frame he's riding?

  19. Been running a maggie with water for at least 6 years now with zreo problems. Just a re-bleed once every 3 months or so
  20. Trying to shed some weight off my bike and i've read about quite a few people remving the inner wall from their rear rim. Anyone got any feedback in regards to performance of the rim afterwards? Any idea of the possible weight saving? I'm running a Trialtech rim by the way if anyone has any direct experience Cheers guys
