Err... well they record onto Mini DV tapes, so it's going to be a lot better than your camera phone. One minute of uncompressed footage on Mini DV is about 210MB, that should give you an idea of quality. It's a proper camera, not a shitty digital camera phone piece of shit. Oh, and it's a video camera, so it's video only. Some have a stills camera mode but it's not as good as buying a normal digital camera. Heres how it breaks down. If you buy a video/photo all in one camera, both the video, and the photo quality will be shit. If you buy a video camera, the video quality will be good, but the photo quality will be shit. If you buy a digital camera, the photo quality will be good, but the video quality will be shit. There's no way around that. If you want to make videos, buy a video camera. If you want to take photos, buy a digital camera, if you want to do both, buy both, but don't try and do both with the same piece of equipment, it wont work.

Yeah I would imagine it's annoying. The other day After Effects kept crashing which pissed me the f**k off. HDD upgrade should be easy, I think Apple pretty much ask you to do it yourself, there is a PDF on the site I think. You could try some more instant ramification too. That could be useful!

How long ago since you did a clean install? I cant think of anything really specific besides checking Activity Monitor and seeing if there are any runaway apps using up all your memory, or going through applications with AppZapper (http://appzapper.com/) and getting rid of everything you dont need to free up some HDD space.

Yeah I just checked and it's £1400 for a 15" 2.4Ghz on the refurb store and £1471 for a brand new one on the edu store. Could be even less if your uni/college is listed in the HE section.

Apple refurb store is probably your best bet.

Thats inside the new Nike iD store in London, but it is mainly the creative industry that that uses them, because of the way the system works.
