  1. Yep, that's exactly the method that I tried to describe above.
  2. Cant find the pic, Inur. But for the original question, a much easier way to swap rims is to put the rims side-by-side so that the valve holes stay at the same spot and connect them with zip-ties or some duct tape and swap the spokes over one-by-one. Just make sure to loosen up all the spokes on the old wheel first, because otherwise the spokes won't reach the new one. And start with the spokes that are the closest to the new rim. i.e if you put the new rim to the left side of the old wheel then you start with the spokes on the left flange.
  3. I've bent my rear Mono Trials rotor really badly so I need a new one. I'd rather not get another mono trials one because I wasn't impressed with it's quality. It was bent brand new from the box and it wasn't even perfectly round. Plus it was on the soft side and bent way too easily.. atleast compared to my front Avid one. So my question is, which rotor should I get? I know that basically every rotor out there that is the right size will work, but some have a larger braking surface than others and I'm looking for the best performance. For example when I tried my front Avid rotor on the rear wheel it worked fine (actually it was much better than the original one) but the braking surface on it is a bit smaller than the one on the Mono Trials so the lower part of the pads was not being used with that rotor (for example, picture a Magura Marta SL rotor, half of the pads only grab the 'spokes' of the rotor). I'm looking for the best performance possible, as it's a rear brake, so should I be looking for a rotor that has enough surface to fit my mono trials pads or won't it make any difference? Either way, which rotor would you suggest? Cheers, Hendrik
  4. I've been running a Zhi rear rim for a while now. Even though it has HUGE holes in it, (like the ones in the '06 echo rims that were weak as) it has been great so far. Though I'm running a disc so I can't say anything about how it holds grinds but I guess the material is similar to the new echo rims.
  5. So, my tryall shoes are falling apart and I'm looking for some new shoes. I love my tryalls but the sole has fallen apart a bit too quickly so I'm looking for an alternative. Everybody seem to love their Ribos and the Devos sole seems to last pretty good so I thought I might give them a try.. Normally I would have just ordered some from Tartybikes, but seeing that they don't have any in stock (well they have, but not in my size) I'm looking for another shop to get them from. And I need them to ship the shoes to Estonia for me. Are there any other shops that sell Ribos and are willing to deal with shipping abroad? And before anyone tells me to get skate shoes, I can't. I'm running the older style Tensiles and without a shoe that has decent ankle protection I keep bashing my ankles into the crank arms, which fookin hurts. Cheers, Hendrik
  6. I had the same problem with my 06 one. (The one that Adam was talking about in the thread you mentioned) I gave her a rebleed and now it's much stiffer and has a bit more power too. It's really easy to bleed Hopes as well. MUCH less hastle than bleeding a maggie. You can also try cleaning the rotor and sanding down the pads a bit, but that only helps to increase power when the brake is contaminated or the pads are glazed, it won't do anything with the spongy lever.
  7. I cant see what's so special about a bike that weighs a bit over 10kg? And grinding the fook out of your bashguard just to save 10 grams but still having a dual ply tire on the front and a dh tube on the rear.. sorry, but that doesn't make any sence to me. I know a guy who's BT weighs 9.7 kg and it has a 2,7 dual ply maxxis on the rear, undrilled rims, a 22t Middleburn bashguard and a fatty fork. I mean, yes, your bike is light compared to most bikes out there, my bike weighs approximately (sp?) 10,5kg (though I run dual disk and a rear mech), but still, it's nothing that special.. my old Zoo Boa was 9.5 kg. http://www.fintrial.com/pyora2.php
  8. Actually I haven't rebleed it (how dumb of me, I've never even thoguht of that ,yet I've dealt with lots of mushy maguras that could be fixed by doing a rebleed) as I didn't need to shorten the hose, it was just about the right lenght out of the box, but I'll give it a try. By the 5 or 6mm hose you mean the outer diameter of the hose? Including the clear plastic tube around the braided hose mine measures roughly at 6mm (5.9mm to be precise). As for the '07 version, my mate has one on his Monty. I tried it for a second and it did feel a bit stiffer, but not much. (to compare these two, than mine is like a Magura with a RB lever on a KOT ms2 without a booster, (meaning that you can pull it against the bar if you really want to) and the '07 one was the same setup with a Magura lever) And I didn't like the round lever blade of the '07 brake either, it felt like it's going to hurt my finger when using it for more than a few minutes, I much prefer the older style flat Mini lever blade.
  9. So, after running Magura for about 3 years and having nothing but troubles with it (leaking every single way it possibly can, (always using Magura oil), snapping a few levers etc) I went for a rear disc and got myself a Simtra with a 200mm Mono Trials. I have ran the Hope for about 6 months now and I love the fact that it's completely maintainance free and quiet plus the power isn't bad either. But I can't stand the mushy lever any more, so I might be going for a change either to a 200mm BB7 or a vee and before deciding I wanted to hear a few suggestions from guys who have ran similar setups before. I love the smoothness and quietness a disk brake gives so I'm leaning a bit towards the BB7 side, but I've hear pretty mixed reviews about running BB7's on the rear and I've never tried one myself (not on a trials bike at least) so I'm not sure about it. I've heard that they don't have enough power for a rear wheel, yet my front 203mm BB7 is a beast. If I'll be going for a vee than I'll be rocking the following setup: Avid SD7/Ultimate calipers, Heatsink Reds, Heatsink adapters, XTR cable, hosing, lever and booster. Any suggestions? Anyone who has ran a BB7 on the rear, how have you liked it? Cheers, Hendrik

    Which V?

All you guys who run vees on the rear, how's the actual bite of your rear brake? can it be compared to a bite that a maggie has? I'm really tempted to go for a vee on the rear because of the fact that they feel so nice and they don't leak. But all the vees I've tried have been REALLY powerful when allready locked but they have never had a good bite. Is it something that you're all used to or have all the brakes I've tried been badly set up? sorry for hijacking the thread

  12. Well, they dont actually have them in stock here as well, but you can let a shop that deals with Hope order one for you. The prices are roughly the same as the ones in Tartybikes or CRC, but Magura discs are way more expensive over here. Back in the day I bought my Louise FR for £152, and I thought that it was a good deal as my LBS gave me a 25% discount on it.
  13. I love it! Reminds me a bit of the Kot MS2. Though, the disc mount looks like the ones on XC bikes. If he'd put a strong +40mm disc mount on there (Megamo/Simtra style) I could see it being a really popular frame. (I'd buy one haha) And Inur, how come are Hopes so expensive in Poland yet so cheap over here? (And I'm from Estonia, not the UK) Compared to Magura discs that is. Over here a Magura Louise costs about £20 more than a Hope Trials. And a Marta is even more expensive. That's the only reason I went for a Hope instead of a Marta on the rear.

    Maggy Vs Discs

A working Hope Mono Trials will not slip before a maggie would. Yes, they do not have the instant bite that a rim brake has, but if we are talking about the general wheel locking power I'd say that a mono trials is on par with a maggie. I've been running mine (200mm on a 26" bike) for a while now and so far it's been great. The only thing bothering me about it is that the caliper flexes a bit too much thus making the lever feel really mushy compared to my front BB7. But other than that it's a beast.
  15. I've had a few wierd ones lately, though this has to be the best one so far: So I was in my room, sitting behind the desk chatting to a girl on MSN. I had no lights on so the room was dark and suddenly I saw a pair of yellow/goldish eyes looking at me just above the computer screen. I thought that OK, thats probably my cat. Then I looked around and saw that my cat was sleeping on my bed. And a few more pairs of those yellow eyes appeared in the room. So I switched the lights on and saw that there were like 5 chavs with santa style red hats hiding in my room, all staring at me. One was on the other side of my desk, one was under the bed, one was in the closet etc. So I stood up and jumped OVER my desk, throwing a front flip into the jump. (My desk is placed so that if you sit behind it you're between the desk and a wall.. hopefully you'll get it.) So I ran downstairs (actually more like flew or flowed, it happened really fast) and went outside. In front of my house there was this huge glass pyramide filled with some sort of slime and inside the slime there was a green alien, just like the ones you usually see in the movies. All my neighbours were outside aswell, discussing something about the alien. So I ran back to my house to get my angle grinder. But there was another chav with a santa hat in the doorstep trying to block me, so I punched him in the face and ran to the place I keep all my tools and took my angle grinder, which was HUGE. (the disc was like 40" in diameter) So I went back outside and ground the glass pyramide to pieces, and then sliced off the head of the alien inside it. Then the guy who lives next door came to me and told me that I did the right thing because the alien was about to come out of the pyramid and take over the world but the ghost busters were stuck in a traffic jam... .... and then I woke up, thinking that there still were 5 chavs in my house that I had to get rid of, before I realized that it had been a dream. Oh and another one aswell: I was at school, writing a maths test, when a blonde girl from my class stands up and walks to the guy who sits behind me and starts talking to him. I don't turn much attention to it because I have to finish my test. Then suddenly she turns around, and I look at her and she looks really scary, with huge vampire style teeth, a knife in her hand and a face as white as my rims Before I can do or say anything she punches the guy who sits next to me throwing him like 10 feet away. So that leaves me between her and the window. She was about to attack me with the knife when suddenly the whole world stopped for a moment and I was the only one who could move at that time. I thought that I should jump out of the window because being on the 2nd floor I might be able to survive the landing without any major damage rather than get stabbed by a crazy bitch. So I jump out of the window but instead of falling to the ground I start flying like the Superman. I was flying torwards this huge brick house (a cinema in real life) that didn't have a roof and I could see what people were doing inside when everything stopped again, for a longer period and this time I couldnt move aswell. I was stuck in the air for quite some time, wondering either I should go back to the school and talk to the teachers about it or fly straight to the police station... And then I woke up.
  16. Hitting the rear disc is MUCH harder than you think, harder than hitting the front one I reckon. The only time your rear rotor will be hit is when you miss both wheels on a sidehop, and even then you may just land on the dropout. If you look at a bike with a rear disc straight from the rear you can see that the rotor is actually really close to the spokes and protected by the wide rear tire, as long as the hits come straight up not at an angle. And even if you hit the rotor you can pretty much always bend it back. I've seen a (front) Marta SL rotor bent to like 90 degree angle and it could be bent back just fine. The same rotor is in fact still being used, 2 years later, just that now it is on the rear of my mates Monty.
  17. I've been running a 200mm Hope Trials on the rear of a 26" bike for about 4 months now. I mainly swapped to a disc because I was fed up with having all the troubles with my magura leaking all the time. A disc is much more fit and forget kinda thing. In that time I've hit the rotor once, and I just bent it back and it's good as new again. As for brake power, it has much more modulation than a magura which I love because now I can do those smooth looking taps to manuals much easyer and without that ear-killer brake noise. And it holds really good aswell, I'd say as good/in some conditions even better than most Maguras out there. The only bad side of a disc brake is that if you get some dirt or mud over your brake or it's generally having a bad day then with a rim brake you can re-grind your rim and sand down your pads a bit and you're good to go, but with disc brake all you can do is pour water over it keep riding so it cleans itself out, but sometimes when you've been riding in really bad conditions and it's really unclean(haha, cant think of the right word atm ) it can take a few days before it gets as good as it used to be.
  18. It's not a problem with your rotor, unless you have got any oil on it. I had the same problem with mine. Xtr lever, cable and hosing and a 203mm bb7 on the front of a stock bike and I could not get it to work properly. It was okay, but compred to my mates 185mm it didn't bite at all. I tried everything, cleaning the rotor and heating the pads in an oven then bedding it in again but with no luck. So finally I got new pads from my LBS and since then it has been the best front brake ever. I suggest you to concider buying new pads aswell before you fork out the £50 for new rotors. Even if they don't make a difference, then atleast you have new pads that you can throw right in when your old ones wear out.
  19. Usually I hate montys but damn, that's one hot ride you've got there. What's that front brake lever? Some oldschool Shimano lever?
  20. I've found the same way of thinking to work well. Ie when I'm going for a sidehop that is big for me I always tend to think that TRA would jump over the wall I can't get onto, and I can't be so much worse than him... works always.
  21. I use a Sony DCR-TRV120E Digi8 cam and I love it. It's not as small as the mini dv cameras, but the battery life is great and it has all the functions you asked for plus many more. For capturing it to the computer I use a firewire, but it also has S-video output and a weird output thing that I don't know the name of but it looks like a 3,5mm stereo output and is used for analog capture or playing it straight to your TV/VCR. The cable that fits in there has RCA connectors on the other end but I'm pretty sure you can get a cable for it that has an usb connector on the other end. I'd say go for it.
  22. I know what you mean. I have ridden my bike when it was -20C outside. The oil goes thicker and the lever pulls closer to the bars because of the cold weather. All you can do about it is bleeding your brakes again and make sure that your tpa is winded out all the way before bleeding, so that you can wind it back in when riding outside. And alo try to set your pads as close to the rim possible. And another thing you could try is getting a lower viscosity oil for your rear brake, so that it won't become so thick in the cold.

    New Sbt Video!

I'm glad you've liked the vid so far. I'm running a 200mm Hope mono trials on the rear and a 203mm Avid bb7 on the front. The rear brake has been awesome so far, though I had some troubles with it on the last ride, but I hope that he was just having a bad day And I'm loving the frame aswell, much better than the high bb monster I had before
