  1. The Carthy rim is the only 26 rim I have used, and I don't want to use any other purely because the Trialtech works so well.
  2. I think that the street rides are certainly good for getting other adults into trials. It isn't what got me into it originally, as me and my dad started riding trials at home watching Ali's videos (first trials video watched was Danny), but I certainly progressed and decided to stick with trials because there is a group here in Swindon with regular rides in the town and surrounding places. Whilst organising group rides on Facebook is fine with us adults, it is not going to work with parents that have young children who want to get into trials. Can you imagine how it sounds to parents who don't know anyone in the trials world to be told to meet in a random car park in Reading with their kid? That's why we need more formalised club comps, like the Weightman's DBT, Bike Trial Academy, SBT, SCBT (big up Shaun), and hopefully TNT to get the youngest riders into trials.
  3. It's going to be hard to get the younger generations into trials considering that we live in an instant gratification society, and trials is in noooo way a quick skill to learn.
  4. I think that the Clean levers look the worse out of all the levers I've seen, and you don't even want to see what their slave cylinders look like. I ditched the 2014 Magura levers pretty quick for some 05s that I bought on eBay and they are great. Strong, have decent power, look nice. Now I'm using Trialtech Carthy levers and they are better than the 05s in everyway.
  5. If it is still happening after lubing the slave cylinder pistons, take the lever apart and use some silicon grease to lube the piston bore and piston O-rings. Slightly stretching the spring can also make a difference, as TartyBikes have said that this needs to be done with the Clean levers sometimes.
  6. My Dad started trials when he was 54 and he's doing alright, so you should be fine. You can pretty much write the first 9-12 months off because you'll be trying to learn to pedal kick (but keep learning the other bike control skills as well), but if you stick with it you'll soon start progressing after that. That Onza has a rim brake, so I'd recommend watching Ali C's video when he's at TartyBikes explaining how to setup a HS brake, that helped me out immensely. I'd avoid using the dainty trial hubs with m6 bolts on a horizontal dropout frame, as they just can't create the clamping forces needed to keep the wheel in place and the wheel will move around, which is a pain with rim brakes. Seeing as it's an older bike, the spacing should be 135, so you should be able to get a 10mm bolt in hub in there running the snail cams outside the dropouts. I'm not sure how available Hope hubs are out there or how much they are, but their Pro 4 SS/T hubs are good when the ratchet ring threads don't strip after three weeks... Then you'd use a fixed sprocket on the cranks. Modern 20" bikes use a 18t/12t ratio for wheelbases over 1000m, but I have no clue what WB the Onza will have. @onzatpro09 This is right up your street, how did you build yours?
  7. Has anyone else used this on TartyBikes website? I'm surprised at the amount of captured points in the sites history. I would imagine it would be very nostalgic for some to have a look this, as the site captures go back to 2005 when you had a whopping selection of three rim brake pads to choose from.
  8. I've actually found some spots in oxford that aren't too bad. Some others have said that it's alright as well.
  9. I noticed the new pawls on my hub when I got it back last week after stripping the ratchet ring threads. My hub skipped a few times on rides as well, so I completely degreased the freewheel and ratchet and only put some chain lube on the moving parts in the freewheel. Running the ratchet almost completely dry with double springs and it seems to be fine now.
  10. I heard that Echo are not dead, but they are only producing bike components for other brands, mostly MTB brands. Obviously far more profitable for them than making trials stuff in tiny numbers.
  11. This happened to my dads Skye. The thickness of the material at the threads isn't the best and Inspired could do with having the Allen key fitting having less depth just to give the threads at the weak point some much needed material.
  12. That is true, you're most likely to hear the negative opinions than the positive ones. People often forget how reassuring good feedback is to others.
  13. Welcome to the forum! The Fourplay will be slightly closer to your DJ in terms of geo, plus they are lighter than arcades.
  14. I just broke a Pro 4 SS/T hub tonight that is less than 3 weeks old. Is that a record?
  15. Has anyone used this chain? They are quite pricey, but from what I understand they are possibly the strongest chain you can get. I would be interested to hear anyone's thoughts on them.
  16. Just finished building a Hope trials hub. The Jitsie isn't cutting it, which is a shame as it's a really nice hub and it would be fine with vertical dropouts.
  17. Hi All, Can anyone recommend some axle washers that are very sharp, like having a steel ring with serrations in the picture below? I've tried the ones that TartyBikes sell, but even putting lots of torque on the bolts they are still slightly moving, which is mashing the snail cams. I may have to buy some Hope QR nuts and see if my dad can machine them down to accommodate the bolt.
  18. Please let me know how that goes. I know some people who bought these BBs a while ago and they've had no issues, so it will be interesting to see if it's perhaps a bad batch of BBs?
  19. This happened to me as well! Fitted the BB on Friday and it went bang on the DJ ride yesterday. I'm going to have my frame reamed and faced at my bike shop.
  20. Its come loose again!! I've deformed the steel above one of the drilled out holes from where I've filed the cam for bigger notches. I've been really tightening down the axle bolts so I can't understand why the cam is taking so much load, because ideally it shouldn't be.
  21. I think the issue was when the bike was new I was using the Jitsie axle washers which have next to no teeth at all. Plus me probably not tightening down the bolts enough lead to the hub sliding in the dropouts and the cam taking all the load, hence the mashing. I had to swap out a borrowed BB today, which gave me a chance to look at the dropouts and the Tarty axle washers have left a good mark on the frame, plus sanding the frame where the washers clamp on must have helped a bit. Hopping around outside the house for a while hasn't made the chain loosen off, so it's looking like all systems are go. Thanks Everyone!
  22. Snail cam bolt. The standard ones on an ozonys skill.
  23. Hi Adam, As in what it is resting against Side to side? I've got some pics of that.
  24. Found that I'd mashed the cam. Luckily, my dad has some needle files that were small enough to file some bigger indents on the cam. I had to file another indent on the cam after trying it the first time, because it mashed the cam again. The extra indent made the chain too tight, but when the cam bedded into the snail cam bolt, it got to an appropriate tension. This tension didn't change after bouncing around on the back wheel for 20 mins. I'll have to see how it holds up on the DJ ride, but fingers crossed I won't have a sloppy chain.
