  1. I'll get something like this. They're no where near 4", more like 2.5" tops.
  2. Yep you were right, they wouldn't budge, although I couldn't get enough force behind it before the spanner slipped off. Also the external echo BB tool doesn't not fit for future reference. I'll have to get the right tool. Only cost $6
  3. Sounds like a plan, I'll give that a try and see.
  4. One is 3500W the other is 4500w. Tank has been draining for hours now, most with the hose, now I'm collecting it in a trey and scooping it out. Almost down to a trickle. There's a shitload of water in there. Wish there was some way to find the water level in the thing.
  5. This is a "We have no hot water thread". Haha. It's not that I can't be told. But this is TF, someone wants to replace their chain we advise them to do it themselves. I think changing the elements is just something that falls under the general maintenance category.
  6. If I have that much of an issue I'll just have to buy the correct tool.
  7. I kinda know what I'm doing, i'm just being ultra cautious because I don't fully know what I'm doing. When i replace the elements, which I can get out with just a a pair of vice grips by the looks of it, I'm going to be shutting all the power off in the house, but I just wanted to make sure that the heater isn't wired in before the breaker, which is this f**ked up house could be a possibility. But I realized that I'm not going to get a 240v reading over a dead element, the reading on one wire going into an element was 1 volt, then when i shut the power off, everything is zero. So I'll just shut all the power off just to be super safe. Edit: All i'm doing is replacing two heating elements, 4 wires in total. It's not like I'm installing a electric heated shower or something.
  8. Draining now, though slowly, the problem was is I didn't lock the pressure lever into place so there was no air getting in their to replace the water. I'm now pretty sure it isn't filling back up with water. I have one of these but no idea to use it, what would I set it to to measure if the elements have power over them? I tried setting it to 20 AC but it read 0.04 then dropped to zero.
  9. Thanks for the help everyone, sorry for the absolutely shittiest mood ever.
  10. I turned it all back on and took a good few mins to fill back up, i'll get a multi meter from work tonight as I want to make 100% sure I'm not going to die and drain it for as long as it takes. I'll be back if I have any more problems with pics.
  11. I'ts not in the loft it's on the ground level, I have no access to any of the internals. Once I stop the water from going into the tank the hot water taps don't work at all. I believe it's the cold water that forces out the hot water. It's still draining, but if it isn't done in the next 20 mins I'm going to turn it all back on.
  12. So with 1 and two both off and both not leaking, water is draining but only with the pressure thing in it's upright position (the position you're not supposed to have it at when in use). Only problem is I have no idea if it's refilling with water or actually draining, and I have no way of knowing the water level.
  13. Whatever one of those is. I tried what you said, very very little comes out if anything at all. I don't even know what 3 does, not sure if it's open or closed right now.
  14. Basically a couple of days ago our electric water heater went out. After goggling it seemed that I just needed to replace the two elements, I suppose we've been running on one for a while now. So first thing i need to do is drain the tank so I could replace them. When I look in there, there's 3 different knobs. I'll refer to them as 1, 2 and 3. 1. Appears to turn off all the water in the house. 2. Appears to just shut off the cold water to the tank. 3. Seems to be the shutoff from the hot water pipe from the tank, although running the hot taps with this closed does not stop the (should be) hot water coming through. So naturally I shut off 2 and try to drain with a hose pipe, very very little comes out. So I open 2 and water comes out the hose very quickly as you'd expect. I think the main problem is the hose is too long, so I remove the hose and start catching the water in a tray. However with both 1 and 2 closed I think I can still feel water filling the tank back up as it empties - which it does very very slowly. If i could just get enough water out to just replace the top one that would do for now. Please help.
  15. The entire post could be simply "I'm owed a months salary from my previous employer". Everything else is irrelevant. Get in touch, tell him you want the money or you'll take legal action.
  16. The very popular xbox game is coming out for the PC on the 21st. But you can play the beta if you pre-order it now like I've just done on steam. Anyone else going to get this?
  17. Hammond's car is going to burn down or explode, I'm calling it now.
  18. I just read this thread through and suddenly avatars and people are reappearing from 3 years ago. YEY!
  19. I never get why this really is an issue. If you want to live in a house, have a bed, have food etc you have to work. It's your choice if you want to go without these things. If you want a shitter car, and a smaller home and crappy food then you can work less. People who are very rich get to do things that poor people don't. Ever experience zero G's? Can't do that without some kind of success in your life... or working an extra 10 hours at your shitty job a week for 3 years to be able to. Irritates me when people talk about money as if it's something bad. Every culture and society will always end up with money to some degree because it's just a better way or trading shit. I don't want to have to go into my local store and swap wool for food. That's stupid and wastes time.
  20. Do you have the DVD player connected via HDMI? If you don't you're going to have to connect an audio out port from the TV to an audio input on the DVD player. If you do have it connected via HDMI then you need to go into the settings on the TV and set it so that you're outputting the sound down the HDMI rather than the TV speakers.
  21. 'Eating less' is not how you lose weight. Stuffing your face with the right foods is the way to go.
  22. I live in the land of the fat. And honestly it's purely a relativity thing. Some guy who's 5' 11" and weighs in at 230 here wouldn't really turn any heads. Where as in England that might be different. Also out here you see people used to and demand conveniences that you don't really get in England. Drive through banks and such. Another thing I noticed is people (not just fat people but just anyone) will get in a car to travel tiny distances like going a tenth of a mile instead of just walking. People seem confused every time I tell them I just walked over to the KFC on my lunch break and react as if it was two miles away (takes me 10 mins there and back). General cultural laziness is defiantly one contributing factor. Another thing that doesn't help is not haven't a decent understanding of nutrition and food in general, and more importantly not understanding what empty calories are. I've told (whatever is the next category above 'morbidly') obese mother in law that the very first thing you need to do - even someone looking to lose just a pound or two, is to cut out empty calories (sugary drink), but people will just flat out refuse as it's become such a normal thing to consume. And again it's the relative aspect of it. Everyone else gets to do it why not me? It's only going to get worse too. When I was a kid when we were done with school we'd go out riding bikes, running around, swimming etc. And this wasn't a conscious choice to keep active and be healthy, it's just what we wanted to do and did. Today it seems that that instinct is dying and to get kids out of the house is as hard to do as getting our generation back in.
  23. So it appears my last chance of getting this working is if my graphics card's VGA ports support the TV out function. Then it would appear I can go straight from VGA to svideo and cut out the PoS converter. Grahpics card is a AMD Radeon HD 7670M, but I can't seem to find out of it does or not.
  24. I'm still trying this but still no luck. I have a vga converter which inputs a vga and outputs an svideo, a yellow rca (composite?) and a VGA. The s-video and yellow port both work but output a shitty picture. I don't get why there's a vga port as an output when that's what I originally converted it from. This is starting to get annoying. Although I did discover that the front of the has a DV in port if that could help in any way?
  25. Joe what's wrong with getting hig... oh wait you don't believe in evolution so any discussion with you is pointless.
