    Covid19

Haha. I get where you are coming from. Its really interesting to see things from new angles, so thanks for making this comment! In response to this I'd say this year has been far from good in the bike industry - supply of stock is really poor. Another year like this would sink most bike shops I reckon. I believe natural immunity is the way forward in this case and jabs / restrictions are damaging (both mentally and physically) - and the evidence is there to show this - but we are being sold the current regime very, very forcefully for whatever reason (cynical or incompetent).

    Covid19

Haven't watched the video, but can imagine what it says. Mental health definitely suffering more than physical health now. Funny how Boris is totally different when talking to camera than real people (that hilarious 'announcement' last night where he basically told us all he was our saviour). A million boosters a day until the end of the year they say? Nice little Xmas bonus... https://www.bma.org.uk/advice-and-support/covid-19/vaccines/covid-19-vaccination-programme (GPs to get paid £15 per jab, add a fiver if a Sunday or a Bank Holiday, add £30 if at a care home or housebound patient.)
  3. That was a fast year glad you like it!

    F1

What a mess. Massi is a moron. FIA a disgrace.
  5. Found one spoke thats had a scuff... no drop in tension, but will keep an eye on it. Will be a good test! And thought this video might help convey them better than photos.
  6. Well the wheels are still alive after 20odd miles including a bit of light trialsing... they have both come a tiny bit out of true (less than 2mm) which I put down to differing rates of bedding in for each spoke and eyelet. Hopefully one last fettle and they'll be reet. Hard to say how they ride exactly as there have been so many changes compared with what I'm used to (more modern forks, lighter rims, lighter bars, bigger tyres, bigger diameter wheels, lower tyre pressures) but the bike does have a lovely general compliance about it in the directions it needs to. I don't usually use Strava but do stick it on every now and again to compare significant bike changes and see how my fitness is getting along, and PRd by a few seconds on a fairly fast ~1:20min descent (despite dreadful conditions) - the rough final section felt much smoother than I remember! Despite the muck, they've come up clean after a hose down too. Winner. Will give them some more stick and report back again soon
  7. You reckon? I'll give them a shout then. Cheers! I still think you could make a good video for your channel with these Ali... early next year when things are quieter I'd be up for a collaboration...
  8. 8.58kg in the photo above. Popped sidehops (edit, haha, the filter for S1D - as in short for a side hop and the name of a Rockshox fork - is still on!) on today and full mudguards, about 9.8kg now.
  9. Still on the Holy Roller? You'll need a LOT of sealant to seal a non tubeless tyre... like double... and it'll take a few weeks to settle down.

Face drive side of BB shell, fit Trialtech Sport Lite BB, job done.
  11. Haha thanks guys. I'm pleased with how its turned out. Can't wait for first proper ride! And yeah, ti cranks Rowan. Had them a while, they're "life-ers", despite a date with the grinder last night to increase frame clearance Front spokes have dropped tension a bit today, will tighten them up shortly. Rears have settled down now.

Doable but needs some 'engineering'. Would obviously not be able to use a FFW.
  13. Ha! I was aiming for extra compliance mainly (and to do something weird). The weight hasn't ended up that light compared with just buying light spokes Front wheel completed... This is the alternative lacing I thought about. I think it will work. The rope kinda 'locks' itself against the flange quite nicely. I may remove two spokes from a normal wheel and put one of these in to test the theory out... Benefits are: lighter due to less rope used (therefore cheaper too), faster to make, fewer splices so less bedding in / stretch (easier to make the spokes the right length), can make much shorter spokes (right down to mod size I should think). Bike is also complete and nearly ready for maiden voyage Fell over while taking photos - first scratch, haha.
  14. Ha! I did wonder about properly crossing the spokes over for a laugh, but thought I'd better play it as safe as I could for now... Definitely could get the threaded bit shorter - I wanted to make sure there was definitely enough space to get a decent spoke key in. I've overdone it by at least 10mm though. Tensioning at the hub end... Not really sure how this would work. Getting anything in there to do twisty twisty would be tricky I think. Cheers dude! I think the flange would be just fine in that circumstance - I mean it'll deal with radial spokes. I had a brief think about this right at the start of the prokect but couldn't find a way to make it behave like a 'normal' lacing pattern. I just tried again though and figured it out, so if you could create a 'lock' at the hub then it'd definitely work. Only issues it that this stuff is seriously slippery (static CoF of somewhere between 0.05 and 0.08 - ice is 0.05!). Perhaps one to ponder in future. Reducing build time in half would be a big plus though! Yeah knotting is said to reduce strength by around 50% according to 'the internetz'. Wrapping the flange like that coud work... Maybe I'll have a little play tomorrow with an old hub and a bit of rope, see how / if it 'locks'. Sadly I've cut and spliced all the front 'spokes' now and don't have enough cord left to do a complete wheel, but maybe if there's a next time........ Thanks both for your ideas and input In related news, the rear wheel now has a tyre on. I re-tensioned it twice before the tyre was fitted, and it dropped tension again (significantly) with the tyre inflated to 40psi (to stretch out the carcass). So I added a bit more and will see where it is when the tyre is dropped down to a more sensible pressure tomorrow. Holding out on building the front until I know it's gonna work.....
  15. Ah mate that sucks, sorry to hear it. What's going on? We accepted an offer on ours in June and only completed 2 weeks ago. Absolute nightmare
  16. Beautiful build! Loving the silver parts and the ti bash
  17. Bummer. Are you set on those tyres? Some tubeless compatible ones will make a hell of a difference...
  18. Thanks! I see no issue with trials use. Thanks Peter! Yeah I'm pleased with how neat it is. Having looked at close-ups of the Berd ones they seem to be a bit 'frayed' and scraggly all over. I'm using 2mm (though it measures at more like 2.3mm) SK99 D12 Max Dyneema, Berd use 1.8mm (which I assume is bought in as 1.5mm) DM20. The SK99 has a higher breaking load (for the same size) but the DM20 creeps less (for the same % of max breaking load). I'm hoping that overall my stuff will creep about the same or less because it's only being used at around 15-20% of max breaking load, whereas Berd's will be nearer 40-50%. It was. And I've had a rethink overnight, I think I will overlap them today. The wheel felt a bit weird when building up and I wasn't sure why, I think that might be the culprit. But yes... that was my thinking. Though I don't think they will move much at that cross, and I figured if you rub two of the same thing together they will at least wear at the same rate (no crazy failures). Berd must have done some long-term testing so I'll cross them over today.
  19. No worries! I sealed on the tyre-facing side of the inner rim wall, a little 'slug' of araldite, flat enough for the rim tape (I just use electrical tape) to conform to / stick over when under pressure.
  20. Yep just tape over the old hole. 6.5mm drill for the new valve (assuming presta).

    Covid19

Agree with you Pete! There's a lot of money to be made from all of this, and a lot of power to be had. Market volatility means lots of money changing hands. I have some investment funds which went up 4% in November, then Omicron got announced and they dropped 4%. If you know when this is going to happen, or even be able to directly influence it... anyway enough speculation, facts: Here's Pfizers own report into their vaccine side effects: https://phmpt.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/5.3.6-postmarketing-experience.pdf The interesting numbers: - 42086 case reports made - 93473 side effects noted (ie. more than 2 side effects per person on average) - 1927 got Covid 19 (unclear whether this is directly due to the jab or in general during the length of study) - 11361 not recovered at time of report - 520 'recovered' but with left permanent side effects - 9400 still unknown at time of report (however I think we can assume fully recovered else they would have been in touch) - 1223 deaths Based on current worldwide reporting, the death rate from Covid is 1.98% (5.2m deaths 264m cases). But as we know this is "deaths - for any reason - within 28 days of a positive test", so that value is higher than accurate. (At age 85, a man has a 1.2% chance of death within the next 1 month.) Pfizers report seems to declare that 2.9% (1223/42086) of patients die following the jab, for reasons ungiven. The report data comes from 2 months worth of patients. Death and permanent side effect rate is likely to be higher than listed, as the report concluded with 25%+ of the case reports incomplete. The conclusion of the report states that their jab has a favourable risk : benefit balance. I hope I have interpreted that correctly and impartially. Personal commentary: still smells really, really weird.
  22. Thanks Luke, thanks Mike! I must admit I'm really pleased with that joint and the colour, looked amazing in the sun today. Many hours of faffing with rope later... I am told the spoke tension will drop now as the spokes creep, so it'll need a retension tomorrow. Can add more details / photos if anyone is interested
  23. The V2 will work well - same size pistons as the trials brake, and the pads even fit too!
