    Bike Testing

I would say it's possible for some of the massive companies, but getting a couple of frames as prototypes doesn't cost nearly as much as having half a dozen bikes wrecked! As someone else has already mentioned, the nature of our sport is such that no two bikes (generally) are the same, and just a small component tweak can sway a rider's decision as to whether they do or don't like a complete bike.
  2. In a word: yes. Bike looks good JT

The answer is simple - money! Adam
  4. Which model of axle is it, and where is it broken?

Sorry we didn't get back to you, phoned Hope and they can't do them in the size you wanted However, an Onza T-Raptor is 100mm x 23 degree
  6. If you're ruinning 26" forks, then you'll need a 190mm rotor and a #5 caliper for the front. The Try-All/Hope brakes only come in #5 caliper version, its just that the +30mm mount on the 26" forks makes the brake require a 190mm rotor (160 on a mod). The brake's workings are all identical, its just the anodising colours, the rotor and the laser etchings that are different (oh, and the price!). Cheers Adam
  7. 1 3/8" is a bit small, 35mm works better (tool I have here measures at 34.97). Yeah, 50-60 Nm for all BBs works well
  8. The Internal Echo BB has 2 bearings on the drive side, so is stronger than the usual internal BBs. The Koxx BBs are completely different to FSA, they're more like the Echo internal ones. The External Echo BB is better than the Internal Echo BB, that's why theres a price difference! The externals have bigger bearings and more well supported axle. They're dead easy to fit, the same as a normal BB basically. Adam
  9. Damn right he is Don't worry, Johal's not a scammer, just a bum
  10. Well seeing as my last bike pics thread post seems to have disappeared http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/images/large_adamkot2.jpg http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/images/large_adamkot3.jpg http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/images/large_adamkot4.jpg (Slightly old pictures now though) Oh, and the hub's a custom laser etched Pro2 Trials
  11. Something you don't see every day....
  12. http://www.biketrialsur.com/Videos/Videos/..._DEFINITIVO.wmv Pretty stylish stuff for an old guy, hehe! Enjoy Adam
  13. Depends how much time/effort you want to put into it... I did a full suspension frame, but something simple like a set of pedal cages would also get a good mark if the finish was good, and the folder up to scratch
  14. That you would like to bum him? Anyway, that was awesome, REALLY enjoyable Ali! Great to see some variety... if only I was that good! Keep it up Ads
  15. Give it a bleed, that'll sort it. Also, loctite the adjustment screw.
  16. Hope Mono Trial 180, front and rear, normal pads. Fit and forget... no bleeding, no grinding... Job done!
  17. The entry form has now been updated, and reads: 6. I enclose the correct entry fee of £10. A further £5 charge will be required on the day to complete and pay for a YMSA insurance/membership form. Last year's secretary has not yet forwarded insurance/membership forms to Dave, so, they cannot be filled out yet! This is why they will need to be completed on the day. Directions and maps will follow of TartyBikes website later. Hope that clears a few issues up. Thanks Adam PS: Todge, I bvelieve you'll be 'out of class', but can enter any route you wish

  19. Pretty much. A lighter lube would probably do a better job of polishing up the pawl/spring interface too, but don't hold me to that (I'm no expert). It just sort of makes sense in my head too that, if the lube is lighter, it doesn'y 'gum' up the hub like can happen with a King.
  20. The springs work more effectively when theyre pushing against a lovely smooth surface. This only happens once they've polished the back of the pawl (which needs quite a few cycles).
  21. I guess it depends how you want to ride. I found that with a low front end, I kept falling over the front especially when riding natural. It was also hard for me to tap low enough on walls... I guess its just what you prefer!
  22. I found that my super-high BB frame was harder to tap consistently on. However, I did my biggest tap ever on that frame, so it's not all bad.... I reckon a nice high stem (enough rise to match that on the BB) does a great job of making sure everything feels good. Adam
  23. If they're the ones Ben's posted a picture of, then they're the BMX shoes. Adam
  24. Entry form now up! http://tartybikes.co.uk/ymsa.php Cheers Adam
