British Trials Cup Round 1 - Bracken Rocks
Ben Swales replied to BikeTrial Federation's topic in Clubs and Competitions
Yep, great day! Shame about the weather overnight and in the morning making everything muddy and slippery! I think everyone still had a good day though. I was pleased to see the sections taking points off everyone and separating the riders out nicely, hope you all enjoyed riding them! Thanks to everyone that came along and entered, and especially to everyone that helped out with the organising, setting up and running of the trial, especially Barbar Wright for her tireless (almost - I saw her yawning towards the end of the day ) efforts in organising and running all of the competitions - she does so much work behind the scenes! Thanks Barbara! Gutted. An expensive day for you guys in the end then! Hope your leg's OK and that Andy wasn't hurt when his forks snapped! Still managed a podium finish though, eh? Glad to see you were staying cheerful despite all the mud and falling off Don't worry, there'll be a few more of us in the senior class at Blackpool, so you'll have a bit more of a challenge for those podium places! Think there'll be at least five of us Thanks for making it down again Kevin! Was great to see you and the boys, glad you all enjoyed it! Was good to see you there Ali. You had a good ride, despite the unlucky (silly?) fives when you were messing about! Hopefully see you at the Blackpool round - it's right on your door step after all! -
http://www.youtube.com/embed/DmRGeUs5sLU I think I saw Ali try something like that on Sunday, but he flipped forwards and didn't land on his bike...

Me too - articulated things nicely I thought. My new bike has a seat too

Fair do's, thought it might have been worth mentioning. Like Luke says, you can try and look at it positively - it might give you some space to come to terms with things without constantly 'seeing her' (if you know what I mean) and what she's doing. It'll be harder to begin with as you'll keep wondering what she's doing, who she's with, etc., but they don't say 'out of sight out of mind' for nothing, it'll probably make things easier eventually. I know unfriending my ex and her friends was a good move on my part - I regretted it for a few days and was constantly mind-f**king myself over what she might be doing and who with now I couldn't see it everyday, but once I'd got over that, again, like Luke said, the space and lack of constant reminders helped me to not think about her all the time and me to break away from all that and start to get over things. It's really shit, and probably will be for a while, but as long as you've got things and people to keep you busy, you can distract yourself from it at least. -

Have you thought that maybe she did it for reasons other than not wanting to be your friend though? I don't normally post in here about my girl issues, but... when my ex broke up with me (almost exactly a year ago now that I think about it), I ended up deleting her and a bunch of her friends from my Facebook because seeing them cropping up in my feed and what have you was proving to be too painful a reminder. Might she have done it for that reason? -
Cool update, cool trip! If you fancy taking along an interpreter next time, I speak fluent French and Spanish and my mum and dad live in Dover, so there's an ideal stop off included in the package and my rates are very modest (plus it looks like fun!)

Glad everyone enjoyed it! I had a wander round and I have to agree, I think the sections were perfect for the openoing round of the season. I was pleased to see that the 50/50 idea for the Cadet route worked well too! Just a shame about the weather, although I think we all still managed to have a good day! Write-up coming soon!

Awesome video Jonny, great work! I've been looking forward to this for a while, like everyone else! I was interested to see what you did with all the cameras at the speed trials - it looks like a 'proper'* sports broadcast! I had a great time last year, really looking forward to this year's - buying my ticket at the weekend! *the video, not the sport I'm not sure if you've misunderstood what is meant by a national Andeee, but it is open to all levels, from primary right through to Elite. There will be eight sections set out on the Sunday, incorporating some of the 'arena' sections and some of the neighbouring woodland sections. You don't need a licence or any affiliations for Biketrial Federation events, so anyone can enter! So as Ian said, there will be a regular competition as part of RadFest, the same as there was last year (although it's not featured in Jonny's video - there is a report and some photos here to give you an idea of what to expect. I'm pretty sure that that's what you and Laurence are after). Also as Ian said, entry forms for the national will be available here nearer the time.
-
As it's the first round of the year, we'll let you off. The entry forms are still online (for now), so get it done quickly! If you join the club first, then enter the trial, that would be best. Just put 'pending' for your membership number on the entry form, we'll sort it out properly on Sunday.

Membership cards will be given out at Shipley

Looks like a pretty fun spot - it's got a little bit of everything. It also loks a bit like you're riding in just your socks

Matty Turner the mini MacAskill - He’s only twelve years old, but his mastery of street trials is already mindblowing ! Here are the latest videos from Matty Turner, who is following in the footsteps of his idol Danny MacAskill... Danny MacAskill, back in Edinburgh with Lezyne - The undisputed king of street trials has brought out his first video of the year in collaboration with his new sponsor Lezyne... He returns to Edinburgh, where he worked as a mechanic before hitting the big time with his famous video in 2009, also filmed in Edinburgh! Guillermo Marin's farewell video - Guillermo Marin, the talented street rider from Barcelona and the man behind some of the most creative lines in the business, is leaving trials for a while to concentrate on MTB / Freeride ! He put together one last video before he did... Adam Bessell - Inspired Hex - A short but sweet video of Adam Bessell riding his Inspired Hex round the industrial estate where he works. A little gem! Flipp'ing out - Brakeless trials seems to be taking off, in the UK at least, and riders like Flipp are managing to reach an extraordinary level that many of us fail to attain even WITH brakes! TRA - the born again street rider - Norwegian trials monster Thomas Remvik Aasen has had a change of direction. He’s now riding an Inspired Hex and has adjusted his style somewhat to suit his new bike. It’s the most impressive street riding we’ve seen since Danny Mac!

Fair do's. Was more of a general contribution to 'the debate'

It sounds as though this guy might be competing regularly though, so I'd say it was fair for him (and anyone else who wanted to) to call it training. People who play for a football team or swim competitively go to football and swimming training, and you wouldn't (I'm assuming) call a competitive runner out for calling his practice training, so I see no problem with someone who rides trials competitively calling their trials practice training as well. While people like Ali, who rides for fun, and me, who competes regularly but really just for fun, and rides for fun in between times, obviously don't think of or refer to our riding as training, there's no need for us to ascribe our vision of riding to everyone else. How people refer to their riding is such a tiny detail to get hung up on anyway - it's almost as bad as trials 'purists' saying that street riding "isn't trials". To paraphrase from that (seemingly endless) debate, what does is matter how people ride, or what they call their riding, as long as they're enjoying what they're doing? And just to get things back on track, I'd echo what everyone else has said; the more you ride, the more you'll be able to ride. There are other things that will affect how long you can ride for, obviously, but generally if you ride often and for as long as you can, the amount of time you can keep riding will increase and the time needed to recover after a long (dare I say it?) training session will decrease. I'll be starting to ride my trials bike again very soon after a long time off with a broken ankle, so won't be able to ride for very long at a time to begin with, but the more I get back into it, the more I'll be able to ride. I can't wait!

It's on the form, near the top - Barbara Wright, event secretary -
Really? Interesting... I'll watch it when I get home anyway, but thanks.

05:00 to the end - NOT trials. All that pedalling and rolling nonsense! And those bits where he was talking, they weren't trials either. Seriously though, another nice video. Watched it without sound because I'm at work, so I don't know what he was talking about, but the riding was fun to watch.
