    Hub Problems

The newest American Classic hubs do have that arrangement, a screw on disc mount. I thought a disc that can unscrew is probably a bad idea for trials. In a sealed bearing unit that isn't smooth any more, replacing the bearings is easiest - just make sure nothing else is damaged or out of line first (just in case).

    Dvd Camera

If you just want to record and play back, then fine. What I had read (there are reviews on the web) was that you could only delete the last clip taken, and that editing mpeg2 - rather than avi - format is not easy and that not all video editing software works with them. So in camera terms, it a bit point-and-shoot. If you're after a camcorder for trials videos, get a DV tape one. If you want an easy solution to get footage onto a dvd, I would say a LiteOn LVW5005 dvd recorder, which has a "firewire in" port at the front. Just play and record. There are other models that do the same by LiteOn but you'll have to look for them. Thats DVD recorder as in VHS-tape-recorder-replacement, not a PC component. A link for a review of a DVD camcorder, with links to other reviews further down. My twopence worth. (Y)
  3. Download expert works brilliantly for me and doesn't contain adverts or any stuff I don't need. It does do such a good job sometimes, though, that other stuff I'm browsing loads up incredibly slowly (it uses up all the 'pipe' into your home) http://www.yanew.com Download Link
  4. There seem to be a lot of people with this problem. This forum has an answer but it's a lot of reading... there might be better solutions in the above Google search. Good luck.
  5. Rescue from space invaders (for those that wanted a game). Good game. (Y)
  6. Smoking cannabis gives you irritable bowel syndrome. That's what I heard from a nurse who'd met some of the doctors testing the notion. Unfortunately they weren't allowed to release that finding because it wasn't politically correct/sensible... Cannabis had just been reduced in class as a drug because it was 'less harmful'.
  7. You could try: www.ebuyer.co.uk quickfind code: 63467 Imation CD-R 800mb 90 Minutes 52 Speed MTV Showbox 10 Pack although I've never used them, your recorder might not like them and your player might not either. But you would - probably - get everything on one CD if it worked. Note carefully: It says NINETY minutes above, not EIGHTY. 80 minutes is 700MB or 730MB if you talk in audio because audio is written as a continuous line, without bits to tell the computer what's where. That's where your other 30MB goes, I think... I don't think you can compress DivX/MPEG4 any more than it already is, without getting the original discs and running through the whole process and specifying a lower quality.

    Extension

A Hex Editor, but it will still be a load of gibberish. An extension of .LIC makes me think it might be a License file for some software or other...? What is it you are trying to change?
  10. Has it ever HAD Zone Alarm? I know from experience what an absolute bitch it can be to remove completely. There are ways to do it that you can find on the web
  11. See if you can get on using a different method? I mean, try using GAIM or Trillian to see what happens. If you need access more than you need a solution, I mean. It might help to know...

    Cold Callers

In Britain it works. It's regulated and it's possible to take action if they call anyone on the list (although it can take a couple of weeks for the details to get through to everyone that needs them). I'm not a scammer (thanks Janson) :o and I'd recommend the preference services. You can read more at the particular websites for them. I'm signed up to them and I haven't regretted it. I've heard a program about this and from what I can tell the marketers have machines that just call numbers one by one, eg 0207 111 111 then 0207 111 112 etc, and if someone answers they get spoken to. That's how they get yours, Urban Poet. JTM can put me right on this, maybe. Sometimes the machine gets through before the person attached to it has finished with their previous call, leading to you wondering if you've had a funny phone call because there is just silence on the other end. If you wait long enough you'll probably get someone trying to sell you stuff. If these machines get through to a dead number (the deafening "beep beep beep... the number you have dialled has not been recognised") it deletes the number from the database, leading to the thought that if you put these three tones on the beginning of your answer machine message - assuming you have one - the dialling machines will delete you from their database. I didn't try this, but it sounded like an interesting idea. On the other hand I had read somewhere that the machines are now being programmed to take account of the length of time/number of rings before the tones are heard. There. Here endeth the lesson. Telemarketers, eh? Who'd have 'em.

    Cold Callers

Telephone Preference Service Fax Preference Service Mail Preference Service I find that type of caller very annoying and have signed up for all three of these. It helps. In terms of pranks, I haven't bothered... yet.
  14. Look for a Nokia unlock code calculator on the web. You'll be amazed what you pay £10 for... This page might do. Usually you use code 2 or code 7, I think code 7 is the best. Read the instructions, though and make up your own mind. If you enter an incorrect code four times (I think it is) you would then need to get the phone unlocked with a cable.
  15. I unlock Ericssons with a Terminator dongle (check ebay again - LAZY LINK). If you are trying Nokia codes on a Sony Ericsson phone (which is what I understand you to say) that will never work. I haven't heard of a code solution for Ericssons, so you'd need to pay one way or another. You can also use the Terminator cable to flash the firmware on the phones, if you have the firmware and the flashing software of course.

    Dvd Regions

Flash your drive so it is RPC1 (not region locked or lockable) by going to The Firmware Page. There are firmware flashes for most drives. That is step one. Unfortunately Windows XP is the same, in that it gives you a small number of region changes. Fortunately you can do the same as me and use DVD Region Killer to tell the computer that the disc you are playing is really from the region your PC is already locked to (read it again if that didn't make sense the first time). I have a copy of the program from back when it was still freeware (thankfully) so I think that means it's alright if I send you a copy... I'll be in touch Olly. I have to find it first because it's been a while since I installed it. And that's all you need, except DVD playing software. I don't know if you would need the software for other versions of Windows.

  18. Interesting Reading (about headphones, of course). It might be helpful.
  19. I used to have a tool that looked like a wedge with a bit cut out and I used it for this purpose. I can't remember what it was for originally, but the closest I can find now is THIS which might work on square taper cranksets. It says it's a ball joint separator.
  20. :S They probably have something similar to Telediscount. If any of you make regular calls abroad and don't know about it, it's HERE (Y) :- :S
