Hi there!

Just became a full member so I though I'd show off my pride in the real forum to celebrate :D

Here's my Cannondale Ashton =)

gallery_16769_1819_96980.jpggallery_16769_1819_33095.jpg

The specs are:

- XTR rear derailleur/cassette

- CODA Tarantula crankset (removed large chain ring)

- XT BB/Hubs

- SRAM Attack

- Magura HS33 hydraulic brakes

- Chris King headset

- Azonic DH stem and bar

- Mavic D521 Ceramic rims

- IRC ElGato DH tires

What do you guys think? ^_^

As I'm just getting back into it I'm thinking of doing it up a little...

I was thinking of changin the saddle to the Coda Competition Mountain Saddle Volvo/Cannondale Team Edition

(image link: http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=h...ficial%26sa%3DN ) but as mentioned before it's impossible to find!

gallery_16769_1819_1448.jpg

Any ideas where i could get one?!?! Or know anyone who has one?! The blue rails are so awesome and all that are on eBay only have the yellow one and aint got the white stripe on the side....

Apart from that I was thinking of getting the MRP mini me 5mm outer chain ring and use it as a bash guard.

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=17738

I know some of you might ask why I dont just skim it down to the small chainring and get a Blackspire Granny God in stead, but I kinda like to have the middle one too for street riding. For 34 teeth I think the silmver MRP mini me is probably the coolest one out there, ey? By the way - what size of bashguard do I need for the Tarantula - I mean the spacing between the bolts?!

I just bought a Rock Shox sidehop '98 for the occasional rough ride (NEW for $150) - should look cool in blue , but I definitely love the P-bone 'R' and will surely ride alot with it! But hey, No-Way'Ray also has suspension :D

Why is everyone so enfatuated with the Cannondale Fatty's? I prefer the P-bones by 100000000 times.

Looking for ward to your comments!

Robbie

(By the way, do you guys ever look at the new members chat at all after you're 'in'? here's the thread to the original post - Jolfa has a really nice Giant there! Ooooh the old skool! :deej: )

This is an awesome thread, because it's exactly the sort of post I was making about ten years ago...

That bike looks top. For real period looks, either try tracking down a Cannondale Magic Motorcycle chainset, or a Filthy 'Ard Guard and run it single ring on the granny ring.

Now I'm going to dig out my old Volvo-Cannondale kit now :)

one word comes to mind when im reminded at times like this what we used to ride trials on... FUN!!!

i remember alot less "who can sidehop bigger" etc... it was about going riding with you mates and having a blast. Not saying trials isnt that anymore, just i feel we lost something along the way, besides seats!! :D

Loverly bike!! I remember dreaming of owning the old red one ...

only ONE THNGS MISSING... Big ol Davids Chain Device (dcd) and that would be true baller!!

That looks sweet, I bet trials is a bit harder on that than on more modern bikes, what does it weigh?

Thanks ^_^

Yeah it is a wee bit harder... I remember my mate had a neon red 'Devil' bike back then and it had a completely different feel to it.. Haha apart from that I must say I've never ridden another trials bikes - don't even mention mods. Maybe I should try some day...

I grew up in Bonn and back then it was incredibly difficult to find anything in Germany relating to trials. That's why I always loved coming to the UK to visit my gran - I was in heaven being able to read MBUK and actually seeing trials stuff/pics/articles published! (Where I first fell in love with the Cannondale Ashton)

Unfortunately my bike is still in Bonn right now, sitting in the garage, so I can't weigh it. Uhm but I guess around 10kg maybe?!

Robbie

Wow theres a piece of history! Is that the real deal, or a replica? As ive seen a few of them on here before

Haha, maybe I'll paint over the signature with a permanent marker and say it IS the real deal....... Lol that would sell for £1000's

Nah, it's a replica. Specially ordered it from the 2000 Cannondale catalogue I think it was.... Almost looks as crumpled as a porn mag :- that's how often I've admired the bike.

Was that blue and white Ashton you find online actually ever for sale?

that bike brings up alot of nice old memories! it's kinda what I dreamed about in the late 90's :D Even if you get a new bike which would probably fit better for "todays" riding, keep it for the nostalgic value!

Yeah I definitely will! I think I'll pass it on to my grandchildren some day :D

Robbie

ahhhh the classic all rounder bike....

totally sweet ride (Y)

steve

Thanks

Thats a beauty......true oldskool, what is the weight? do you have the geo as well?

Ufff so many compliments :$ I think I can say thanks to all in one message!

"Thanks!"

What's the geo? Is it Hewyes' Giant?

Robbie

I'm with you there! No worries in the world - just riding with your mates and fun :P

Actually I've been looking for one of those DCD's - but with a union jack. Anyone know where I can get one of those?

I have a sneaking feeling that the union jack DCDs were only ever a promo item. Pete Tompkins used to do them to raise interest...

The actual frame Martyn used to ride was never made available to the public, as Cannondale felt they'd never get their investment back on the tooling, testing, design and so on. Once he was on his own bike, he let slip that his bike didn't have the best geometry, but it was light so he got away with it.

That's how good a rider Martyn is :)

What I would give though for one of the red framed bikes, Sun rims and Coda crank sets. I also *adored* the red team kit tops with yellow sleeves which had VOLVO down each arm in massive letters. I think Martyn wore it in Getta Grip, and Missy Giove wore it too in some paddock photos. Very, very cool. Team only. :(

Yeah, if you check out my original thread in the New Member Chat http://www.trials-forum.co.uk/forum/index....howtopic=112558 you'll see you were actually an inspiration for me to do up my bike!!

Did you spraypaint the sidehop's at all or did you just take the label off and pit the Cannondale decals on (btw - crazy £20 for them on eBay)

What headset is that you have - love the yellow ^_^

Did you get my last message of me asking for the saddle? please read here under your thread:

Dude, you mean the Volvo Cannondale downhill Jersey, in red?! I used to have one, but it was lycra, not loose. Not sure if it had yellow sleeves though, but when I'm back in Bonn I'll have a look. I think it did! Later I then got the loose blue/white DH jersey.

SOOOOOOO COOL!

Then I still had my old Cannondale, the one preceeding my Ashton which was stolen unfortunately!! (but giving me reason to buy a new bike :) )
