Money Making Ideas

What about buying tickets for things like music concerts and when they're sold out sell them on eBay for a bit more so as to make a profit.

I would think there are laws on this sort of thing but I have seen it being done before and a few people I know have done it in the past.

Its ideas like this that kills live music. Example. Reading and Leeds festival. Think its 80,000 weekend tickets per location. Tickets put on sale at 7.15pm. Ebay at 7.20pm there were 800 results for weekend tickets ranging from singles to 6 persons.

Ticket touts are tits. But they make a hell of alot of money especially the scamming ones.

EDIT: 800 purely for Reading.

erm, yes and no, ticket touts are tits, but in what respect. theyve bought something, which is in the future going to be worth more, and then sell it on for more, its like people getting shiny pokemon's, buying antiques, limited edition stuff.

the genuine touts arent really conning anyone, there selling goods at a price someone is willing to pay. the fact that its to a music event kind of gives it some moral code that you shouldnt sell it on for more (thats like me offering you £2000 cash for a bike you payed £250 for from supercycles that i knew was worth £250 but really wanted as i couldnt get another one, you wouldnt say no, and sell it to someone else offering £250). Apart from the unlucky people who didnt get tickets, who would of struggled to get them anyway as way to many people are interested in going to the festival. no one really loses out, the ticket company/event organiser still gets the money they want, the person who pays £500 for the ticket, gets the ticket they want, at a price they are willing to pay, the tout gets their money, and ebay get their fees.

dont really see how thats killing live music, the event still gets all its money, and it still gets the full number of people attending(well either that or the tout lets tickets go to waste)

If your on about scamming touts, then thats a different kettle of fish, but then theyre not touts, theyre conmen/scammers. but i can see where the appeal comes from. you buy 6 tickets for about £900 off seetickets.

you then sell these tickets on, 20 times throught march, april, may and june. thats 120 ticket sales at say 300 a pop.(average, you say you can get almost 3 times that for reading, but whatever) 120 x 300 = £36,000, thats a lot of money to anyone.

no one gets their tickets till like august the 15th, so no one expects to recieve their tickets till after about the 17th, and then you can count up until the day before the festival where you can fob them off(they dont come till the 20th, you posted them 21st etc). you can only open an ebay dispute for 60 days after the item sells. therefore any items sold prior to about the 22nd of june, cant be opened as a dispute.

you then of course still have the original 6 tickets to sell on legitamitely, or to go to a festival and spend £35,100(less sellers fees) on getting drunk.

and selling the tickets on 20 times, wouldnt be hard, at all. considering how quick they where sellling the first few days, could start up an ebay shop, with 50 in stock, buy it now, at £300, theyd of all gone within about 90 minutes the first day or so.

Yeah think its more a moral thing that its wrong.

They are obviously looking to buy and sell to people who have been unfortunate in not getting tickets, because possibly they bought them instead. Yeah i agree its very clever and if people are willing to pay the money then it works.

No it isnt killing live music, if people are wanting to go then they will pay more. But takes the chance from those who perhaps cant afford to pay £350 for a £160 pound ticket.

Just my opinion.

I had this idea a while back but what about an auction website (similar to that of ebay) but one thats dedicated to trials only? I know this forums got its own feedback system but I think a totally seperate auction system would work well - I think an auction type thingy would offer more flexibility to users and be an easier and more efficient way of selling their stuff.

EDIT: I forgot to say how youd make profit hah. I wouldnt go charging fees or anything at first cos youd wanna build up your sites traffic first but I guess you could use banner ads of some sort to cover your hosting? Then actually start making a profit later on in the sites life when youve got a decent number of members by bringing in fees.

I'm trying to raise some cash to spend on my holiday...

Go through all your old shit and find stuff to sell. You'll be amazed the response you can get if you post on the right forums etc. Forums are far better than ebay sometimes. I sold like 8 old band t-shirts today I thought i'd never shift for £5 each..£40 ennit!

This site is awesome as well - http://www.mobilephonexchange.co.uk/ Never realised I had an old phone lying around which is worth £25! Just type in all the details, they give you a freepost address, send the phone off and you get a cheque/bank transfer within 10 days. Well good!

bump?

Please stop bumping. It comes across as pretty rude that people take the time to reply to you, yet all you have to say in return is 'bump' - its your thread, you need to put effort into it too. The one bump per 24 hour rule is for FS/WTD sections only.
